Chapter Text
Mike woke to blinding light in his face, he rolled over with a grumble trying to force himself back to sleep.
With zero success at this, he reluctantly drags himself upright, stretching slowly. His eyes wander automatically over to where he knows his best friend lies asleep. Only to find his bed unsurprisingly empty yet again.
Mike had known for a while that Will had recently started getting up early in the mornings, especially to get extra work done but recently it's started to concern him how often it happens, he's also noticed how Will has now started coming back to the dorm late in the evenings too, which only fuels the uneasy feeling in his stomach.
He worries about his best friend, what if he's barely sleeping? Where does he go? Why is he there? Who is he with?
Mike shivers at the thought of Will cozied up to another person, their bodies tangled up in each other, their lips breaths apart.
Only realising the direction his thoughts had taken a second later, Mike thinks it's a totally normal thought to have about your childhood best friend, who you've known your entire life... Right?
It's at this point that Mike marches into the bathroom to splash his burning face with water.
He then decides to start getting ready for his class in 40 minutes, he brushes his hair and teeth, picks out a clean pair of jeans and a sweater to wear and packs his bag with everything he needs.
Swinging the rucksack over his shoulder he takes in the empty dorm room before exiting and locking the door behind him.
On his walk towards the stairs and out the building, Mike's thoughts drift back to Will and how little he's seen him these past weeks. He's worried, as Will is too good at bottling up his emotions, and never speaking out when something is troubling him.
Over the many years of friendship together, Mike has learned all of Will's expressions, how to read his emotions and what Will needs based on that. But more recently his face has been masked in an unreadable expression, he seems tired, exhausted even. He's lost the bounce in his step and the wrinkle by his eyes when he tries to give genuine smiles.
Mike continues on this train of thought on his way to class, planning what to say to
will and how he can help.
His eyes wander across the plants and birds, following the line of parked cars, noting their colours, blue, black, black, red, blu-
Faster than Mike can register the car parked metres from him is violently thrown towards the other side of the road. Mike's eyes snap up to the villain in front of him.
Mike knew he'd have an encounter with one eventually but that didn't dampen the pace of his hammering heart. Panicked, his scans the area around him for shelter or a place to hide.
Mike's not fast enough as his eyes return to the villain who is now aware of his presence, with a wicked grin on his face, snatching up another car and launching it towards Mike.
His feet are stuck.
His heart pounds louder.
This is it, he's a goner. He only made it through one whole semester before the dangers of this city took him.
The car is being volleyed towards him, true terror fuels Mike. He wasn't ready to die, not yet.
He blinks.
When his eyes re-open, he's in the sky. Wow, Mike thinks that surprisingly quick and not painful at all.
That's when it registers to him, the warm solid presence beside him that wraps around his waist and stays flush to his side.
Risking a glance up, Mike makes eye contact with the one person he never expected to meet.
Large bug-like eyes stare back at him, his striking and teasing personality enwrapping Mike. He immediately felt more at ease and relaxed into the hold.
"Well, how lucky I arrived in time" Spider-man said, you could hear the playful grin in his voice. "Would of been such a shame to lose a cute boy like you"
Mike's eyes snapped back to the face, not realising his focus had drifted elsewhere, disbelief covered his face.
Did he just get a compliment?
From Spider-man?
