Parvati was so tempted to hex the two boys in front of her and Padma.
She knew teenage boys were dumb and clueless at times, but this was beyond her comprehension.
"You should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves," she seethed. "First, you decided to be jealous prats because you waited until the last minute to get dates with me and my sister, instead of who you really wanted. Second, you failed to understand the meaning behind the Yule Ball and befriending people you don't meet every day. And third, you made your best friend cry and ruined a night she's been looking forward to for ages!" This last part was mostly directed at Ronald Weasley, though she glared at Harry Potter too. "I can't believe you! You didn't see how happy Hermione was tonight because you fucked up, gentlemen."
Harry had the sense and grace to look abashed. Ron shuffled awkwardly on his feet. "She was all secretive and wouldn't tell us who she was going with," he mumbled. "I wouldn't have been so angry if Hermione had said her date was Krum! Right, Harry?"
Parvati, on the other hand, was in no mood to hear his excuses. Neither was Padma, who had folded her arms and was giving him a scathing look too. "Because she knew you would react like a jealous prat, Weasley." She retorted. "And Hermione was very justified in doing so. After everything she's done for you, this is how you repay her?"
Harry winced. "She didn't deserve that, Ron. From both of us." He glanced at the remaining dancers on the floor, the Weird Sisters were playing a slow ballad. Hermione had gone outside after her fight with Ron. "You're right, Parvati. We should have been better dates for you and Padma. I am sorry." He looked at the redhead next to him, then at the girls. "Is there any way we can make it up to you?"
"I'm sorry too," Ron added, still fidgeting. "We were right prats and you two deserve much better."
Padma and Parvati looked at each other. Parvati raised an eyebrow. "Tempting, Harry. I would like to help, but I think you blokes should grovel more. Not only to us."
"What an excellent idea, bon," Padma clapped her hands. "As a way to pay us back and Hermione, you think of the best way to apologize. My sister and I will have our own fun."
Parvati linked arms with her twin. "I couldn't agree more, didi."
They walked away to dance some more, leaving two flabbergasted boys behind them.
