Chapter Text

Today was an extra special day for Jake Williams, because he was heading out to a surprise vacation with his college sweetheart, Dash Martin.

“Where are we going?” Dash pestered Jake for the 5th time this car ride.

“I told you, it’s a surprise,” Jake said, rolling his eyes affectionately.

Dash was Jake’s college sweetheart and gay awakening. Jake thought he was straight, that was, until Dash came along. He was in denial about the subject for a while, but he realized that he couldn’t run away from his feelings forever. So he admitted that he might have feelings for him, and Dash kissed him. At that moment, Jake figured out that he was not as straight as he thought he was.

“Are we almost there?” Dash said, excitement in his voice.

“We’re 2 miles away,” Jake teased, looking on the road as he drove.

At this point, Jake had been dating Dash for 3 years, and he was about ready to get down on one knee. He just had to work up the guts to ask. A lot of the time, Jake was pretty timid. But this engagement made him very nervous, even more nervous than other times. He put a lot of pressure on himself to plan the perfect spot, and he still needed to figure out how he would set the situation up. It couldn’t be too obvious, but also, it couldn’t be–

“LOOK OUT!” Dash said, pointing to a tree ahead.

“Oh, shoot!” Jake responded, just in time to swerve hard to avoid it.

“Well, that was almost a disaster,” Dash said, catching his breath.

“Yes, yes it was.”

“It’s… a cabin,” Dash said, a smidge of disappointment in his voice.

“You… don’t like it?”

“No, it’s great! It’s just… usually not my style. I still love it though, because it’s the thought that counts, and I know you put a lot of thought into this trip.”

That made Jake smile.
