Work Text:

Charlotte worked for what felt like hours. It was hard enough being in the medical field as a woman, but it was even worse as a person of colour. Oh how she wished she could just stay home all day with her darling 'Delia. But, obviously, she couldn't. Somebody had to make enough money to pay the bills, and it looked like it was going to be her.

She found herself constantly checking the clock on the wall and the watch on her wrist. It felt like it was going backwards with how long the day was taking. She was lucky enough that there was enough work to do to keep her busy, but she still just wanted to go home and feel the love of her lover.

Finally, after what felt like literally years, her shift was over. It was well past eight already, and Cordelia was probably already in bed, but Charlotte didn't care. She hurried home, a light smile appearing on her face as she simply thought of her girlfriend.

She opened the apartment door, being careful not to be too loud incase 'Delia was already asleep. The room was dark, but she could see some light spilling out from underneath the bedroom door. Charlotte quickly took her shoes off, placing her keys on the key rack before walking further into the apartment.

Charlotte didn't bother with dinner, she could eat later. Instead, she headed towards the bedroom, carefully opening the door. A smile instantly appeared on her face as she saw her lover laying on the bed, watching some random show on the small television.

She took off her work clothes, quickly changing into pajamas before laying down in bed beside Cordelia. Charlotte wrapped her arms around her, pulling her close. She could hear Cordelia let out a quiet giggle as she buried her face in her lovers hair. They layed like that for a while, just simply holding each other in a comfortable silence.

Eventually, Cordelia pulled away just enough to look into Charlottes eyes. "How was your day at the hospital?"

Charlotte could tell she meant well, but work was the last thing she wanted to talk about right now. She let out a quiet grumble before burying herself back in her lovers arms. Cordelia let out another giggle, understanding Charlottes reaction completely.

As much as Charlotte didn't want it to, Cordelias question made her look back into her day. She had had a patient who happened to be queer and she could see that her colleagues were visibly hesitant to help them. Charlotte had stepped up to work with them, but she couldn't help but worry about what would happen if her colleges found out she was queer. She was already part of the minority and if others found out, it would only make her work life harder.

Charlotte wished it was different. Nobody should be afraid to be who they are, especially about something as silly as love.

She pulled Cordelia closer, her worrys melting away for just a moment as she felt the woman's warmth. Charlotte buried her face in the crook of her lovers neck, kissing it softly before lifting her head just enough to whisper in her ear. "One day, we'll get married."

Charlotte felt the woman pause in her arms. Cordelia moved her head to meet the others gaze, a look of pure love in her eyes. "I will marry you even if it's the last thing I do." Cordelias voice was so quiet she barely heard it, but it made her heart flutter like the first time she looked into her lovers eyes.

Charlotte pressed the softest, most devoted kiss to 'Delias lips one last time before pulling her into her arms. They layed there all night, the television eventually turning off on its own. The two didn't care. This, this is was life should be like, and they were glad that they had each other. And in that moment, nothing else mattered.

I'll break your bones with all the love I carry
