Work Text:
The gentle sound of birds chirping outside was heard as Jayce opened his eyes, finding himself in entirely new surroundings. Just a moment ago he had been in the astral plane——or whatever it was——with Viktor, giving their own lives up to destroy Hextech.
He thought that would be it. He thought that would be his death. But he certainly didn't feel dead now. In fact, he felt very well rested.
He sat up, allowing the midnight blue blanket over him to fall a bit, and took in his surroundings. It seemed to be a bedroom. One he knew, logically, he'd never been in before, but it felt homey and familiar. He knew he was meant to be there. There was a window beside him where he could see outside, covered by a thin white curtain that still allowed the light through. It was bright outside, but not quite noon. He didn't see any other buildings or people outside——it was purely nature surrounding the house. Mostly trees.
Jayce finally looked to his other side and jumped a little when he saw Viktor sleeping beside him. That moment before had felt so intimate, but their feelings were still unresolved and unofficial. He hadn't told Viktor just how much he'd pictured their future together, in a scene just like this.
Viktor was facing him, his expression peaceful and his hair just as it had been before it all went wrong.
"Uhm… V?" Jayce whispered softly, "V, wake up." He wanted to wake the other man gently, but he was also confused out of his mind as to what had just happened.
Slowly but surely, Viktor's eyes fluttered awake. He did not seem as well rested as Jayce, grunting as he tried to sit up. Jayce immediately reached out and helped him do so.
Viktor rubbed his eyes. "What… where are we?"
"I have no idea."
"… I thought we died? Did that not— That didn't kill us?" Rather than looking at Jayce, Viktor was looking around the room in confusion.
"I thought that too," Jayce said. "Maybe it did? Is this, like, heaven or something?"
"Didn't think heaven would look like… oh." Viktor seemed to finally realize the predicament. How close the two of them were.
Jayce laughed nervously. "Heh, uhm… yeah."
Viktor allowed a long pause before speaking. "I suppose it is heaven."
"I- what?"
"Please, Jayce, after killing ourselves together you still assumed this to be platonic?" Viktor rolled his eyes. "Your eyes hide nothing, you know. We worked together far too long for me to not catch anything."
"Are you possessed? How are you being so straightforward?"
"That wasn't disagreement."
Jayce stuttered for a few moments. "… Yeah, no it wasn't."
"Hm." Viktor smiled before pulling Jayce's head down to kiss him. Jayce sat there wide-eyed for a few seconds before melting into it even deeper than Viktor had. He'd dreampt of this for years. He was afraid he would wake up any second and find this was another one of those dreams, but no. This was far too real. He could feel Viktor's lips against his, Viktor's soft hair rushing through his fingers as he brought a hand up to brush through it. He was about to lean even closer when Viktor placed a hand on his chest and pushed him away.
He kept their faces close together and rested his forehead against Jayce's——just as they had a few minutes ago. Jayce could feel Viktors breath against his skin. "I cannot believe I just did that," were not the words Jayce was expecting to come from the secure Viktor he knew and loved.
"Well I am ecstatic that you just did that."
Viktor gripped Jayce's shirt in his fist and rested his face in the crook of his neck. "I'm not dreaming this again, right? You actually like me?"
Jayce's smile melted at the realization they had the exact same worries. He pulled back and gripped Viktor's shoulders to look at him. "No, no, Viktor. You're not dreaming. I- I'm not dreaming."
"How can you be so sure?" his voice shook.
Jayce leaned forwards and captured Viktor in another kiss, before pulling back. "Did that feel fake?"
"No."
"Good."
They sat with that for a moment, staring at one another before Viktor interrupted the silence. "Okay, Jayce, now where the fuck are we?"
"Oh, I still have no idea."
Viktor nodded, eyebrows raised. "Let's investigate, then."
The two of them got up and left the room, only to find a whole house to themselves. They had only just arrived, but the place felt like they'd been living there forever. They came to no solid conclusion for the time being, just that they were safe in some capacity. The water worked, the kitchen was fully stocked. They held hands all throughout this 'tour'.
Finally, they sat outside on the porch. Not on the bench, but on the weathered steps in front of them.
Jayce leaned his head on Viktor's shoulder. "I thought we were gonna die."
Viktor looked at the trees surrounding them, listening to the wind blow through the leaves. He took Jayce's hand in his. "Well, we didn't."
