Trapped Like Prey

Summary:

After finding Henry’s message, Mike tries to locate him with Helpy’s help. But he didn’t expect that someone else was already looking for him… and not with good intentions.

Notes:

This is a continuation of “A Message with a Small Companion.”

I never wrote a fight scene before, so please be patient, I hope you like it.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Mike was driving back home. He wasn’t alone.

In the passenger seat sat Helpy, the small animatronic Henry had created to deliver that mysterious message.

A message that kept circling in Mike’s mind.

Mike knew Henry hid many things. He also knew Henry had suffered as much as he had.

But discovering that he had once been William Afton’s business partner… that explained far too much.

However, something else troubled him even more.

More animatronics?

What did that mean?

More victims?

More trapped souls?

Mike tightened his grip on the steering wheel. No…that wasn’t the immediate problem. The important thing was finding Henry. He needed answers.

he finally arrived home, the car’s engine shut off with a metallic sigh.

Mike stepped out of the vehicle, carefully holding Helpy, as if it were a fragile object that could break at any moment.

He opened the door to his house and locked it behind him.

Everything looked exactly the same as always, silent, dark.

The windows were still covered with newspapers taped from the inside, blocking almost all the light from outside.

Since that night, the animatronic’s presence had completely disappeared. Whoever had taken them hadn’t left a single piece behind.

Mike placed Helpy on the table in front of the television and turned it on.

Nothing interesting, just commercials.

One of them caught his attention.

A future horror attraction called Fazbear Fright.

According to the advertisement, it would be unique because it would use authentic objects from the old Freddy Fazbear pizzerias.

Mike let out a humorless laugh, “Absurd…”

He had heard the project was being financed with money raised during FazFest, and that the building chosen was an abandoned place… one that had been closed for being prone to fires.

Mike changed the channel. He hoped to find breaking news, now that would be “interesting.”

After a few minutes, he thought of something.

Maybe it would be better to write down Henry’s message.

He didn’t want to carry Helpy everywhere. Here it would be safer.

Mike looked at the table, Helpy was gone.

He frowned. “Helpy?”

Silence.

He looked around. “Where did you go?”

He began searching the house, kitchen, under the furniture, the hallway, nothing.

Then he stopped, something wasn’t right.

The back door was slightly open, Mike slowly walked toward it.

It didn’t seem too alarming. Lately the lock hadn’t been working very well.

Maybe the wind had opened it, he closed it carefully.

Just as he was about to go back to looking for Helpy…

He turned around, and froze.

A man was standing in the middle of the hallway, still, watching him.

His blue eyes shone in the darkness, like those of an animal waiting for the perfect moment to attack.

Mike studied him carefully.

He was dressed entirely in black, a security badge hung from his chest, and he wore a mask…a mask of the iconic pirate fox.

The man tilted his head slightly.

“Sorry for coming in without knocking…”, he said calmly, his voice was quiet, too quiet, “I knew you wouldn’t let me in this time.”

Mike felt a knot in his stomach, he recognized that voice instantly.

Michael, the brother Vanessa never mentioned.

“What do you want, Michael?”, Mike asked with distrust.

Michael took a step toward him, then another, slow and calm, as if he were enjoying the moment.

“I just wanted to see you…” he stopped a few meters away.

His head tilted slightly to the side, “The man responsible for ruining my family’s life.”

Mike reacted on instinct.

His fist shot forward and struck the intruder’s face with all his strength.

The fox mask flew off and hit the floor.

But Michael… didn’t even move.

As if the blow had meant nothing.

Mike looked up… and saw his face.

His breathing stopped.

The skin was torn in several places, purple, pale, rotten.

His features were distorted, as if his body no longer knew how to remain human.

Mike felt his stomach twist.

“Is that all…?” Michael whispered, “My turn.”

Suddenly he moved.

His hand grabbed Mike’s clothes and hurled him against the wall with brutal force.

It felt as if his bones were made of solid metal.

Mike fell to his knees, the air knocked out of his lungs.

But he didn’t give up.

He grabbed a nearby chair and threw it at Michael.

The chair slammed into him.

Michael didn’t even bother to cover himself.

The chair kept moving past him… and he kept walking forward, slow, unstoppable.

Mike ran toward the back door, he just needed to get out.

A wet metallic sound broke the silence.

Something moved beneath the skin on Michael’s back.

Suddenly… a cable shot out of his body like a steel serpent.

The cable wrapped around Mike’s leg.

Mike fell to the floor.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Michael said calmly, “I’m not done with you.”

Then Michael’s back moved again.

Two more cables shot out.

One caught Mike’s arm.

The other wrapped around his torso.

Mike was dragged toward him.

More cables began wrapping around his body.

Legs, arms, chest, completely immobilized.

Mike was lifted into the air, twisting like a trapped animal.

Michael watched him with a calm smile.

“Do you know what’s fun about hunting?”

The cables began tightening, Mike felt his ribs crack.

“It’s watching the prey think it can still escape.”

The pressure kept increasing.

“You killed my father…”, the cables tightened even more.

“You abandoned my sister…”, Mike could barely breathe.

“And worst of all…”, Michael slowly stepped closer, “You humiliated me.”

The cables squeezed harder, it felt like an anaconda crushing him.

Mike screamed in pain.

Finally Michael loosened the pressure slightly…but didn’t release him.

Mike gasped for air, his body trembling.

Michael leaned in front of him.

“Look at the great Mike Schmidt…” he smiled.

“The man who freed the souls… the man who defeated the Aftons.”

He leaned even closer, “But look at him now.”

His voice became a whisper, “Alone… and helpless.”

Mike glared at him with hatred.

Michael let out a small laugh, “Don’t look at me like that…”, his eyes glowed.

“You’ll make a great welcome gift.”

Mike’s eyes widened in terror.

Suddenly an electric shock ran through Mike’s body, pain exploded through his nerves like lightning, his vision turned white for an instant, then everything went black, Mike lost consciousness.

Michael let his body fall roughly to the floor.

He watched him silently for a few seconds, then sighed calmly, he bent down and lifted him from the ground as if he weighed nothing.

He opened the door simply by pulling it, breaking the lock, cold night air rushed into the hallway.

The street was completely empty.

Michael walked to his car, dragging Mike’s unconscious body along the ground.

He opened the trunk, he tossed the body inside without the slightest care, then slammed it shut.

He got into the car.

The engine purred softly.

The vehicle began to drive down the road.

Only the sound of the engine breaking the silence of the night.

In the distance, a rusted sign illuminated by a flickering light stood beside the road.

FAZBEAR FRIGHT: The most real horror experience you will ever live.

The car passed in front of the sign and kept driving into the darkness.

Because the real horror… Had only just begun.
