Chapter Text
Ever since Alex could remember he always had the small silvery star marking on his wrist, it's always been something looming over his head, the fact some stranger across the world has been biologically tied to him since his creation, the fact that he's destined to end up with this stranger. Of course he knows he doesn't have to end up with his soulmate, most people don't, but the fact that there's someone out there destined for him has always deterred him from dating anyone else.
He always thought he didn't need to be in a romantic relationship with anyone, he had friends, but one-by-one they ended up finding their own soulmates, and Alex was the only one who was soulmate less. He didn't mind that much, or pretended not to at least.
“Maybe I’ll find mine this year ?” Alex says to a rather energetic John for half six in the morning, John enthusiastically nods in reply. Both of the men had graduated school last year, they both got jobs as secretaries for some law firm, John was having a gap year, Alex, still, being the overly prepared man he was, didn't have a life plan, so he just jumped on John's bandwagon of getting a job.
Alex didn't like change very much, he was just like that, if there was someone in his life they wouldn't leave unless they died, Alex made sure of it, he was nervous, and John knows it. But he also knows Alex doesn't like his anxiety to be brought up, Johns barely brought up serious topics with Alexander in the 11 years he’s known him.The two men were walking almost shoulder to shoulder on the pavement.

It had been established on the first day that the job was shit, and it really didn't get any better over the course of the next few months, everyone bossed Alex around like a kid, he barely did any paper work, which was the original reason he applied for the job, instead he just went around running everyone's coffee orders and making timetables.Him and John barely got to see each other during the day, apart from lunch, it was miserable.
A few months into the job Alex was going though some papers, a new employee was being transferred, and Alex was to be his secretary, he hopes he they aren't as bad as the last one-
Oh God No.
Not Thomas Jefferson.
Anyone but Jefferson.

“ I mean why me ? Of all people, why me ? “ A very exasperated Alex laments to John, Lafayette and Hercules. At least John was trying to console Alex, Lafayette had turned red from trying not to laugh, and Herc wasn't even trying to hide it.
Alex and Thomas had a very complicated relationship with each other, in other words they hated each other's guts, they were both top students, A+’s in every class, 100% on every assignment, perfect attendance, and they were constantly fighting to be top of the class, for 3 years straight. Alex wasn't exactly popular either, he was a stereotypical nerd, glasses, braces, short, good grades, hung out with the misfits, the whole shebang, Jefferson, on the other hand, was the complete opposite, everyone thought he was so cool because he was so smart, the ladies loved him the teachers adored him, and he was admired by everyone.
And Alex was the nerd.
And he was now tecnically working for Thomas
