The day had started fine, good even however it did not stay that way.
The manor was the most full it had been in ages Father invited everyone over for dinner as he has been trying to get the family to at least be friendly with each other. Father had looked directly at me and akhi which is stupid because we both are friendly to the others I suppose in a different way then father wanted but still it pisses me off.
Ahem ive gotten off topic but anyway father had convinced Richard, Todd, Drake, Gordon, Brown, Thomas, Cain, and Kyle to come to the manor for dinner and then petrol after. Some people were easier to convince than others AKA the suck ups as akhi always says. So essentially the children, the honorary children and his situationship, wonderful start to the day right. To many people in the manor for the dining room to fit us all, somehow I am still upset that mother sent me here to such a poor family but akhi had been raised here so I suppose it is acceptable.
There was too much pushing and tugging at each other for the food despite there being more than enough food for everyone that was there. I simply waited for everyone to grab what they wished that Pennyworth made, which was always quite good. Pennyworth has my respect for dealing with all of this chaos for years; he should retire at this point in time. Again i've gone off topic apologies Back to what happened leading up to this moment.
I was waiting for the others to be done when akhi Todd handed me a plate of exactly what I would have picked. In all the chaos for food no one noticed so I nodded at Todd and took the plate Todd nodded back then sat at his seat which was next to me interestingly enough. I wonder who picked the seating arrangement. Anyway we all ate our food. No one seemed to notice I had never gotten up to get my food or that Todd had gotten it for me. Which was fine in my eyes.
After everyone finished breakfast we all went our separate ways. I went to my room and drew a couple things, one of which was ukhti. I didn't love how it turned out but it was only from memory anyway so i think it was fine, I also drew my pets specifically batcow. I had fun drawing, then I put my sketch book away and went for lunch.
It was crowded and chaotic again but I got there earlier than the others so I got my food first. After lunch I went to the library to study for school as I have a project due soon but once I got there I saw Todd akhi, he was the only one there other than myself which was slightly odd as Drake was almost always there. Since it was just akhi I sat next to him after getting the books I needed for the project. He looked over at what I was doing
“What project is it this time habibi?” Akhi asked calmly, still trying to see what it was. I felt warm it has been so long since he has called me that, we had decided that after coming to gotham we would pretend we had never met and that meant he could not call me habibi as he never told anyone of the fact he had been in the league and we pretended not to be close so it would not make sense for him to but oh how ive missed it.
“I need to write a short story based off of a novel I like but I haven't read many for reasons you know akhi but I don't know which one to do” I grumbled unhappily as I leaned on him . Akhi laughs it’s low and calming and he puts a hand in my hair ruffling it a bit. I huff a bit at the hand messing up my hair.
“How about I read you Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief or do you just want me to summarize it and tell you what you need to know about it” Akhi offered. I hummed in thought for a moment before nodding
“If you could summarize it so I can finish this quickly and we can read it together another time” I paused before mumbling which I know is unbecoming but shut up “ If your willing to ofcourse akhi” Akhi nodded with a light laugh for half a second “Of course miri as-saghir now lets begin with the summery”
Akhi and I worked on my project for a bit. It did not help that writing is annoying as english is my 5th language to learn but with akhi’s help it was better. Next thing I knew I heard someone walking up to the door so i grabbed all my stuff and quickly went to a different couch in the library it was closer to akhi’s then I would have liked but it was the quickest to get to akhi must have heard them as well as he quickly grabbed the book he had discarded earlier to help me and began to fake read. The next moment Kyle came in the room she looked a bit surprised we were both in there for a second before saying
“Well this makes it easier for me but your father” Kyle nodded at me “bruce” she then nodded at akhi Todd since she knew Todd despised having father be called his father I silently did as well as he had cast out akhi and replaced him quickly but I needed to maintain my appearance so I never said anything. “Said dinner is ready and dont worry he didnt cook it was Alfrid but Alfrid was too busy to get you all” It is a well known fact to all close to father that he is a terrible cook you can not trust him in a kitchen to save a life.
I nodded and thanked Kyle, grabbed my things and dropped them off at my room on my way to the dining room for dinner which I already knew would be chaotic as all hell. I sighed as I walked down stairs praying to any god that may exist that it would go better then I thought it would.
It did not.
Richard was already stuffing his face with food when I entered which was fine in theory not in practice as he has always been a loud eater which always bugged me but i never mentioned as i have a fair amount of respect for him.
Drake and Brown were doing god damn karaoke from Brown's phone while eating which was even worse because just ew in general.
Thomas was speaking with father and Kyle who was wrapped around father being disgustingly clingy which was a whole different kind of disgusting in its own right.
Cain and Gordon were talking while also simultaneously watching Brown and Drake. I mean it was mostly Gordon speaking while Cain listened and simultaneously watched Brown and Drake singing with sick amusement.
Todd was talking to Richard while Richard, as mentioned before, ate his food.
Pennyworth was standing to the side before he sighed and somehow that got everyone to stop being obnoxious and began to actually go to their seats since everyone was afraid of Pennyworth being upset at them and I honestly agree.
I also went to my seat which was the same as at breakfast and the same as at lunch. I was next to Todd and Cain which was honestly the best seat I could have gotten. Much to my own dismay however Kyle thought to ask about what Todd and I were doing in the library.
“So Damian, Jason what were you both doing in the library when I came to get you both for dinner?” Kyle asked calmly. This for some reason got everyone's attention and they all became interested in the conversation. I answered honestly just not mentioning Todd’s help
“I was working on my english assignment and went to the library to try to find a book.” I said calmly it was not a lie after all I just left out some bits and I knew Todd would do the same.
“And I” Todd began just as calmly tho showing a slight annoyance at the question as a front “ Was reading as its the only fun thing in this god forsaken manor” there was a slight bite at the end of his words just for flair.
The others flinched slightly at the remark remembering how much of a struggle it was to convince Todd to come to the manor to begin with, what they didn't know was the only reason he even came was because I had asked and even offered to do petrol with him tonight since he didn't want to with the others at all.
After Todd’s reason however there were more questions since a certain someone (ahem Drake) was being a nosy wakhaz.
“And you were okay with the demon brat being there but not me because?” Drake said annoyingly. Todd only huffed
“Because he needed to do an english assignment, you heard him did you not?” Todd said like it was obvious which it was.
“But I was in there to work on a case and you kicked me out” Drake exclaimed clearly agitated, it was quite funny.
“Case work is supposed to be in the cave only dumbass of course I kicked you out” Todd huffed amusement leaking into his tone. Drake stammored for a moment before giving up and going back to eating. The others followed suit and did the same going back to their original conversations.
After dinner we all went to the cave and got ready for patrol. This was when we said goodnight to Thomas, since he is the only one of us to have a proper sleep schedule which is good for him to be fair. Gordon also left but for different reasons. Her reason was because she had patrol as well but simply from the watch tower since you know she's oracle. It was soon time for us to pick who we would go on patrol with since father said we could because we all actually came for dinner.
“Jason, Damian should go with me for patrol he's still new to this” I heard father say to Todd which annoyed me because in what world does being robin for a full year, being trained by the league of assassins from birth until becoming robin mean im “new” But whatever I suppose.
“To damn bad bruce I called dibs” Todd said ever persistent
“You can't just dibs Damian like that Jason , he's a living human,” Father said, his voice slowly rising in volume and annoyance. At this point it was clear if they continued arguing over who was going on patrol with me we would not be able to go on patrol at all. Until Drake for once had a good idea and suggested
“What if we all patrol together?” He suggested calmly but you could tell he was expecting his suggestion to not be heard out.
Now why I hadn't suggested this was because I knew Todd didn't want to patrol with the others and that was why he had wanted me to patrol with him to begin with but it still was a decent suggestion. Somehow the suggestion actually worked, maybe because they both knew neither would get what they wanted otherwise. Everyone, even Drake had not thought his suggestion would actually work but it did and we all left for patrol.
There was an arkham break out and everything went to hell. The rogues that got free where mr.freeze, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, and the joker which was already bad but poison ivy and scarecrow were working together to make a new drug that would make people so utterly horrified while making them have extreme pain all over that even the strongest minds (ie. Batman) couldn't handle it. The most ‘fun’ part about tonight has got to be the fact that Batman did get hit. Then the joker apeared and fucked things up even more by tounting Pretty much everyone and we had gotten dosed with the new drug but far less then Batman had so we all where still in our right minds at least mostly. Red Hood was about to shoot the joker which would have been fine if one of us tried to stop him however we all have not been in the best mentally with this drug in our heads. How it mostly has been for me is not being able to tell what's real and what's fake.
So that leads us to this moment. I don't know if im seeing right but based on where Red Hood is looking at the same person as I am I would guess she’s really there. It's Ukhti. She's standing there calmly. She did put on a domino mask which is greatly appreciated but that means I can’t see her blue eyes that reflected her home town's ocean. She has her knife covering the top of Akhi’s gun. I'm gasping before i know it.
“Red Hood I suggest you put your gun down before I need to knock you out for your own safety.” ukhti says calmly, she’s always so calm. I admire her for that I always have. Akhi looks to be stumbling over what to say and honestly I understand I feel the same way right now.
My vision is getting kind of fuzzy now however and I'm inclined to go take a nap. I think I can hear people talking but what are they saying?
Everything's getting dark. What's going on? Am I in danger? Should I be fighting? Should I be fighting the tiredness? But it would be easier to just take a break for a moment right?
