Work Text:
Closing your eyes, you tried to sleep.
It had been a long week, the worst of your life.
In the middle of your vacation, you went to visit some of your close family members.
Taking a deep breath, you turned around your bed, but the coldnesss didn’t help you in the slightest.
"Why..."
The tears started to flow before you could notice it, and soon enough, it was unstoppable.
Everything that happened that night was still fresh on your mind. It was a long process, you knew, and that was the reason why you were at home.
"Baby?" Zayne’s voice suddenly cut through your thoughts, his steps getting closer and closer to the bedroom "I'm back"
By the time he reached your side, the cries were getting harder and harder.
"Shh... I'm here now, love, you're not alone"
His warmth around you felt like a soft blanked hugging you. Yes, you were back at your house, but only with him by your side, you could finally feel at home.
Zayne spoke in a soft tone, pressing your face against his chest. The thumping sound of his heart slowly soothed the ache in yours, your breathing evening out as the pain subsided.
"I love you, sweetheart"
He continued to leave kisses in your forehead, his fingers carding your hair to help you calm down.
"Thank you" you said after awhile.
"Always"
You had never expected grief to be like a knife hurting you when you less expected it.
A few days had passed, Zayne had suggested to stay with you the entire time you were on leave, but you declined. You thought you were doing okay.
"Will you accept my offer to accompany you?"
At that, you could only laugh, a bit watery.
"I already talked with the Hospital's director. I only need your yes and it's settled"
Typical of him. Always thinking about your well-being, even before you knew you needed him.
"Yes, please"
With a soft kiss on you cheek, he nodded.
"Of course, my love. Of course"
His arms hugged you a bit tighter, as if to confirm he would never leave your side in times of need.
For that, you would forever be thankful.
