Work Text:
Fuyumi grabbed her bag and started packing it. She grabbed her Hello Kitty pajamas, skin care products, and toothpaste and toothbrush. She zipped it closed and grabbed her phone, texting Kazuho that she was on her way.
Fuyumi felt her eyes grow heavy as she made her way to her girlfriend’s place. Eventually, she was barely able to keep her eyes open and stopped at a café to get something to wake her up. She made her way up to the counter and got a coffee cup just full of espresso. She didn’t like coffee much; she preferred tea, but she wanted to make sure she didn’t pass out before she reached her destination. She forced herself to consume the bitter-tasting liquid. She did feel it start to work as she felt much more awake than before. She made her way to Kazuho’s place, hoping the coffee would keep her awake for a while. She felt a new wave of anxiety fall over her, remembering she was staying the night. The reason for her exhaustion was that the same nightmare had been plaguing her dreams for over a week.
The nightmares would start with her playing hide-and-seek with Touya. She would be young, maybe 5 years old, and Touya would also be around the same age. She would always find him underneath the bed, and Touya would start laughing. She would quickly join him in the laughter. Suddenly, Touya stopped laughing at her and looked quite angry. He’d grab her arms and squeeze so hard till it started to hurt. He would say, “Why didn’t you find me sooner?”
She would look at him, confused. Her dream self would always respond the same. “I’m confused, big brother. I did find you.”
She would look away for a moment; it was really only a split second. Instead, Dabi’s face would be there, but it was different. His eyes were lifeless, and his eyes had blood dripping down, as if it were tears. His grip would get tighter, and Fuyumi would try to get out of his grasp, but he wouldn’t let go. Suddenly, he would set himself on fire and have the fire spread to Fuyumi. She would thrash and scream, but he refused to let go. Suddenly, she was no longer young. The space underneath the bed would become a black abyss, and Touya would drag her in.
She would open her eyes to see she was now in the medical pod they put her brother in, but she would have no air. She would start to suffocate and look down to see her brother staring at her with angry eyes. Then she would wake up. Her heart would be pounding out of her chest, and her body would be drenched in sweat. She would either start crying her eyes out or feel numb and stare at the ceiling. Losing Touya a second time was already hard enough, and this dream wasn’t helping her cope.
Before Fuyumi knew it, she was suddenly already at Kazuho’s building. She made her way to her apartment and knocked on the door. “COMING!” She heard a voice yell and heard a few noises from inside the apartment. She wondered if she had knocked anything over, because she knew her girlfriend could be a bit clumsy sometimes. Before she could ponder on it anymore, Kazuho opened the door. “Sorry I spilt something,” she apologized quickly. She had her usual black sunglasses, but she had gotten a new eye patch for her left eye. It was a nice pink that matched her hair.
“No need to apologize,” Fuyumi said as she made her way inside. She couldn’t help the warmth that spread across her face seeing her girlfriend. Kazuho was wearing My Sweet Piano pajamas that matched her Hello Kitty ones. She looked adorable, and Fuyumi couldn’t help but smile at her lovingly. “Are we going to order takeout tonight?”
Kazuho shook her head. “A-actually, I wanted to try something different.”
Fuyumi wondered if she wanted her to cook. She didn’t really want to, but if they weren’t ordering takeout, she would.
Kazuho led Fuyumi to the couch, and she couldn’t help but smile. She saw her favorite food, Udon noodles, tempura, and grilled vegetables. On the table was also her favorite brand of strawberry milk. “Did you order this?” She asked.
“No, actually,” Kazuho played with her, getting a bit bashful, “I made it.” Fuyumi looked at her, surprised. “Your brothers told me you haven’t had anyone cook for you in a long time, so I wanted to make you something special. I know something’s been bothering you, and you don’t have to tell me, but I wanted to try and cheer you up a bit by making your favorite food.”
Fuyumi couldn’t help the tears that welled up in her eyes. She never thought someone outside of her brothers would put so much effort into making her feel special.
“Oh no! Do you not like it?” Kazuho said she was worried about why her girlfriend was crying. “We can order takeout if you want!”
“N-no!” Fuyumi said. “I-I’m not upset, Kazuho.” She said, wiping at her eyes. “I’m so happy I can’t believe you went through all this effort for me.”
“Of course I did, Fuyu.” Kazuho walked up to her and hugged her tightly. “I love you so much.”
“I love you, too,” she said and kissed her softly. “Let me go change, and then I’ll enjoy the food made by my girlfriend, who’s the kindest person in the world.”
Kazuho blushed at the compliment, her eyes looking away. “I dunno about kindest-“
“Nope, you are,” Fuyumi said before walking to the bathroom. She came back out a few moments later in her matching Hello Kitty pajamas. They sat down next to each other and put on Fuyumi’s favorite horror movie. Fuyumi took her first bite of the udon, and she swore she could taste the love that was put into this. “Kazuho, this is incredible!” She said as she happily continued eating.
“Really?” She asked.
“It's delicious,” Fuyumi said happily, taking another bite. She forgot how nice it felt to have someone cook for her.
The two of them continued watching the movie. Kazuho paused it whenever Fuyumi wanted to state a fact about the movie. She would sometimes pretend to be confused to see Fuyumi’s face light up. Once the movie finished, Fuyumi felt her eyes get heavy, and before she had realized it, she fell asleep.

Fuyumi opened her eyes to her vision being quite blurry. She stuck her hand out and felt around for her glasses till she eventually found them. She put them on and saw Kazuho resting beside her. Her girlfriend had to take off her eye patch, and in rare instances like this, Fuyumi could see her second eye. She looked down and noticed the blanket covering both of them and smiled. It was then that it finally dawned on her. She didn’t have the nightmare for once. She felt a huge wave of relief wash over her. “What did I do to deserve you?” Fuyumi said, smiling so widely at the girl sleeping soundly beside her. Kazuho suddenly moved in her sleep and hugged Fuyumi. Fuyumi smiled at her and wrapped her arms around her, so thankful to h
