"This is ridiculous... 'Blinkous the Gumm-Gumm Tamer!' Yeah right... There is legitimately NO WAY I could reach this— This BEHEMOTH of a troll! And even if I could, then what? I just magically convince the entirety of Dwoza that he's nice now? It'll never work!" The four-armed troll continued mumbling incoherent words in annoyance as he made it to the cell which held the aforementioned Gumm-Gumm. "Not to mention all the blasphemy that flesh bag was spouting! Goodness gracious..."
He stopped in front of the cell that holds the larger troll. He peers in, squinting his eyes in uncertainty as he sees him sitting there, facing the wall in complete silence. Blinkous gripped the bucket of socks tighter as he opened the door and stepped in. He jumped slightly as it slammed shut behind him. Sighing heavily, he steps forwards.
...
Funnily enough, the two of them started bonding. Despite Blinkous' worries, Aaarrrgghh was actually really docile and.. weirdly "peaceful" in nature. If you could call it that. He was trying.
Blinkous eventually released the troll from his cell as the inevitable war was now fully approaching Dwoza and every troll needed to be involved. Now was the time to fight for his home, and not be a complete and total coward!
...
He ended up being a complete and total coward. Blinkous Galadrigal: The Troll Who Ran Away! That'll sound just delightful in the history books. He scoffed, then remembered his brother. Dictatious...
Oh, how he missed his brother. Blinkous had no idea where he had gotten taken... And he wasn't able to go and find him, either. So now it was just Blinkous and Aaarrrgghh... Funny how this came to be, huh?
...
The two trolls have been growing closer over the many years they spent together. Aaarrrgghh even started calling Blinkous by a nickname—Blinky. It was nice. He didn't understand why, but it made him feel happy and warm—Even if he is made of stone. Most of the daylight was spent in the library at Heartstone Trollmarket, the two of them talking (Blinky doing the majority of it) and speculating who the next Trollhunter would be. The obvious choice was Draal—He was Kanjigar's son after all. Why wouldn't the offspring of the previous Trollhunter be the next one? It just made sense! But for some odd reason, Blinky couldn't help but feel like that wouldn't be the case.
His point would only be further proven when he was looking out the sewer grate towards the bridge that Kanjigar had sacrificed himself on—The amulet had chosen a human. He raced back to Trollmarket to tell Aaarrrgghh. They needed to find out where this human has his dwelling so they can begin his training immediately!
...
After the initial shock had worn off, things were going great! The other trolls weren't the happiest souls, but they would learn to get used to it! Hopefully...
The young master's friend, Tobias, was also a kind one—And very eager to help. Maybe there doesn't have to be only one Trollhunter? Seeing the two of them working together makes Blinky happy. Aaarrrgghh had also taken a liking to the two humans. Vendel seems indifferent... but he's sure he'll come around eventually.
...
Weird thoughts and feelings have been wrapping themselves around Blinky's mind—He doesn't understand what they mean, but he's not opposed to them. Every time he's near Aaarrrgghh, his metaphorical heart does about twenty flips. Whenever they're close to each other, his mind goes fuzzy—It's actually quite pleasant. He hopes Aaarrrgghh feels the same way about him—I mean, if Blinky feels this happy around his friend it's only fair that he can hope for a mutual agreement on it.
He just doesn't understand the extent to how much his troll friend means to him.
...
Jim has noticed how Blinky and Aaarrrgghh look at each other and he goes to his best friend, Toby, to see if he's not the only one.
"Hey, Tobes?" The shorter kid looked at his friend and smiled.
"What's up, Jimbo? You look like something's on your mind—"
"Yeah about that... Have you noticed if Blinky and Aaarrrgghh are.. acting weird around each other?" The taller didn't exactly know how to describe it.
Toby hummed in thought, fiddling with a wrapper. "You mean weird as in similar to how you act around Claire?"
Jim glared at his friend. "Okay well... you didn't have to say it like that but- Yeah." Toby then nodded, thinking of what to say next.
"Yeah... I have noticed that. Aaarrrgghh told me about how he feels 'warm and happy' around Blinky— Jim- Jim do you think they LIKE like each other?"
"Maybe? I'm not sure how that stuff works in troll customs, though-"
"Do you think trolls have a mating dance?"
"What."
...
Countless nights of Blinky and Aaarrrgghh comforting each other in some way— Be it Blinky missing his brother, or Aaarrrgghh recounting his time with Gunmar, the two were always happy to help the other. At times, they've fallen asleep while holding onto each other, usually in the library. One time in Jim's basement.
So much has been going on, and Jim even has a not-official girlfriend now! Blinky was proud of him, like a father would be of a son. But he couldn't help feeling that some of Jim's "human love feelings" are quite similar to how he feels about his own friend. When it comes to love, trolls are typically like how deer are—Competing for their mate. But of course, that doesn't go for all of them. Blinky and Aaarrrgghh like to think of themselves as pacifists, though they'll get physical if needed.
But when it comes to love with those two... they seem to enjoy the sappiness that most humans have. It's funny, really, if you think about it.
Even Draal noticed it—Saying they're both "acting like idiots" to which Blinky denied profusely until Aaarrrgghh walked in and he immediately sent a glare towards Draal and walked off to join his friend.
At this rate, the entirety of Trollmarket will realize before the two of them do.
It's honestly sad.
...
It's been a couple weeks since people started noticing, and Toby talked to Aaarrrgghh about what humans do when they're in love—Specifically the kissing portion. The troll was only confused as the kid explained it.
Things weren't going much better with Jim and Blinky, especially not with Draal butting into the conversation every so often. Maybe some day they'll understand.
...
And that day has arrived.
Nothing was happening, things were quiet and peaceful. The kids were at school, Draal was hiding in Jim's basement, which left Blinky and Aaarrrgghh alone. But instead of the usual light felt air around them, there was a form of tension lingering. Blinky tried distracting himself by reading—But it didn't help. Aaarrrgghh had tried to pick up a book as well, but decided it wouldn't help and put it back where it was.
The two of them sat in an awkward silence until one of them finally broke.
"So.. Master Jim has been teaching me of some... human customs lately and.." Blinky started, glancing at his friend a few times.
"Wingman too. Aaarrrgghh doesn't understand, though.." He trailed off, then went directly in front of Blinky. The smaller troll looked up, confused. "Think it was...like this?" And he pressed his forehead against Blinky's and sat there, looking into his eyes. He started nuzzling him slightly, reminiscent of a cat. Blinky just smiled.
"I'm... not quite sure that's how it's done, but I appreciate the gesture... Makes me feel warm." Blinky somewhat mumbled the last bit, but Aaarrrgghh still heard him.
"Me too." He tilted his own head up, bringing their faces closer together. Aaarrrgghh looked content, smiling widely. Blinky was shocked at first, but then decided to lean in.
"I think this is how it's done." He connected their lips to which Aaarrrgghh happily reciprocated. It was short, but it was sweet. Both of them just smiled at each other.
"Do that more often?" Aaarrrgghh looked expectantly at Blinky.
"Of course."
