Talking to the Moon

Summary:

//Maybe these fundraising events aren't for John.

Chapter Text

Rosie spent four months recuperating on the Island before she was fit enough to go back to her own apartment and work. It was strange being alone again after so long in such a lively and loving home. Of course she was never on her own very much as the guys still came to visit her just as often as before, if not a little more.

It was coming up to to Event Season and Lady Penelope was holding one of her annual fundraisers. Again she’d roped John into going, even though Scott and their father would be there representing Tracy Industries. John had only agreed to go if he could bring a plus one. Intrigued, Penny had of course agreed. Then John had had to beg Rosie to go with him.

“I’m no good at those fancy shindigs!”
“Oh come on Rosie? Please? I need you!”
“But…”
“Scott will be there.”
Rosie swore something very unladylike and John knew he had her.

That had been two weeks ago. John was now sitting in his Tux in Rosie’s apartment living room as she struggled to find something to wear. She walked out and John scrunched his nose up… “Too country?” She asked and he nodded. She sighed and headed back in. The next three outfits were a bust too but by then it was becoming a joke as each time she came out it was more outrageous and a fake fashion show, leaving them both in fits of giggles and laughter.

However, when it was almost time for Parker and Penny to come pick them up, Rosie sighed. “I have no idea what to wear to these things.” John laughed. “Well are you trying to just look nice, or look nice for Scott?” She stuck her tongue out at him, but then paused, a smile slowly spreading on her face. The two looked at each other and said at the same time “Something blue!”

The doorbell went and John went to answer it while Rosie finished putting her dress on, and some gold shoes, quickly putting her hair up and grabbing her purse. She heard extra voices in the lounge and took a breath. She’d not met Lady Penelope in person, but knew she was a College friend of John’s and a member of International Rescue too, though that wasn’t public knowledge. Rosie was just as nervous about meeting her as going to the party. Smoothing her skirt down, she took a deep breath and entered the living room.

Everyone turned to look at her, and she smiled, feeling her face heat up. “Ah, you must be Rosie. The boys haven’t stopped talking about you.” Penny said, stepping forward and Rosie shook her hand. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Lady Penelope.” She said, feeling a little awkward, unsure how to act. “You too. You look beautiful.” Penny smiled, and Rosie tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “So do you. Thank you for the invite.” Penny smiled, then looked at John. John smiled at them both. “You do look beautiful.” He said, offering her his arm, which she gratefully took. “Shall we?” Penny gestured to the door, and Parker opened it, nodding his head to Rosie as she walked out with John.
