BEEP BEEP

BEEP BEEP

BEEP BEEP

BEEP BE-

Extra groaned as he clumsily hit his alarm. Today was not his day. He was never a morning person, but today just felt a lot worse than normal. His brain felt fuzzy and heavy, not letting him actually fully wake up.

He was planning on sleeping in, until he heard a familiar goat horn. Just great! He turned and layed on his side, why did he feel so..tired?

Well, that didn’t matter because if Extra didn’t wake up, Napa would come find him. Anyone who lasted a day in the Viking nation would know Napa personally coming to get you was never a good sign, even if you were extra. Extra let out another groan as he forced his eyes to open, taking in the great view of his ceiling.

He gradually sat up, realizing he had to hurry up before Napa would actually get mad. Extra moved away from the comfort of his blanket, standing up from his bed.

CRASH

Extra proceeded to crash to the ground. What a great start. His head was killing him, but everything would be fine. The walk to the centre of the kingdom would clear his mind, it always does. Being a Viking means you have no weakness, and you especially can’t be as lightheaded as extra right now.

Extra walked towards his closet, taking his favorite sweater out of instinct and pulling it on. He liked how the fur made him feel warm, but today it just felt weird. It was too warm and uncomfy. That’s weird.

He really didn’t have the time to be thinking about his own preferences before slipping on his armour, his pride and joy. It felt unusually heavy today. Why was this morning going so….badly?

“Not enough sleep probably..” he said to himself, leaving the comfort of his home to go meet up with Napa and the useless recruits.

The first he noticed was how chilly the wind was, and he couldn’t help but shiver. He felt nauseous as he walked, why was that? Usually he would be wide awake by now. This was not how Napa’s right hand man should be acting.

From the distance, he saw everyone lined up, where was Napa? He looked around before finding him on the top of the pillars. Of course. Why didn’t Extra think to look there first? Napa always had this pleasure of standing at the top, silently reminding people they would never be at his level.

He saw Napa smile when his eyes landed on Extra, what was he saying? Napa’s mouth was moving, but he felt so far away. Man, extra was really out of it today. Maybe Napa noticed, because he stopped talking and frowned, worry creasing between his eyebrows.

Extra’s eyelids felt so heavy. Maybe he should take a nap later.

His entire body felt heavy.

All he saw was Napa gliding towards him with his elytra before everything went dark.

NAPARIZEL’S POV

“Where is extraaaa..” Napa mumbled. Extra was always the first one lined up and ready, yet by the time all the soldiers were ready, he was still no where to be seen.

Napa had always known Extra was not a morning person, but that hadn’t stopped extra from being on time, even early!

Napa wouldn’t call this favoritism, but if extra wanted to sleep some more, it would be fine for today. He wouldn’t storm in and ruin everything. Though, he would need to think of a valid excuse so the others didn’t think this was unfair.

Who cares if it’s unfair? But Napa doesn’t want others to target Extra. He doesn’t want Extra to be his weak spot.

From the corner of his eyes, he sees movement. Is this an ambush? An assassin?

Speak of the devil.

Extra

He couldn’t help but smile at the sight of his right hand man. His commander. Yet..something didn’t look right.

The extra he knew was always walking in confident strides of skipping, rather whistling or just smiling. How come the extra in front of him was slouched over, sickly pale, and staring into who knows where?

This wasn’t the extra he knew.

Worry creased his eyebrows, why did extra look so..weak?

“Extra..buddy..you don’t look so good there!” Napa said, trying to sound as cheerful as he could. He couldn’t hide the concern is his voice, neither the way his voice shook.

of course, extra had to make Napa more worried when he just stared at him. Why was extra just..standing there? Usually by now, he would’ve flown up to greet Napa in a way so informal that Napa would not tolerate with others.

”Extra?”

“Extraaa…?”

“Ex- EXTRA.” Napa’s confidence slided to a halt as extra’s knees crumbled to the floor. He thought he’d be used to people kneeling at his feet, but it just felt so wrong seeing extra fall.

He instinctively equipped his elytra before shooting like a star to his star, no, his right hand man.

Right before extra fully collapsed to the ground, Napa caught him.

Something was wrong.

Extra was hot.

Too hot

He was burning up.

”This dumbass..” Napa swore under his breath. Why would Extra still come to training when he was sick? Especially when he had a high fever.

It was all Napa’s fault.

Was he too harsh on extra lately? Was extra so scared of Napa’s rage that he couldn’t even take the day off?

He turned around to face the other recruits blankly staring at the duo, what useless idiots.

”Trainings over early today.” Napa practically barked the order, watching the group scatter like rats. Stupid stupid stupid. They weren’t even worth his time. He quickly turned back to assess extra. He should get extra some rest.

Napa carefully picked up extra as if he was as delicate as glass, making sure to support extra’s head as well as he sprint walked to his home. Their home. Thank god it wasn’t a far walk.

Napa, as gently as he picked extra up, placed him down on his own bed. It was obviously more comfortable than extra’s bed.

Slowly but surely, he stripped extra of his armour. Seriously, what was extra thinking? Being sick, coming to training, AND while wearing armour? He must have a death wish.

He draped the blanket over extra, scattering away to get some necessities such as medicine and a cold wet towel.

What do sick people even need?

“Soup!” Napa accidentally said out loud. He snapped his fingers and got to work. Although extra was quite the picky eater, Napa always was secretly on track of what extra was currently enjoying. Chicken noodle soup should be good enough to please his taste buds.

EXTRAEXTROVERTED’S POV

Extra felt like he was drowning. Everything felt so heavy, and warm. It was disgusting.

Suddenly, he was falling.

Extra gasped as his eyes flashed open. That was a great way to wake up. The light streamed in so fast his eyes couldn’t process it, making his blink harshly.

Once his eyes adjusted, he realized something.

This was not his room.

This was not his house.

This was not his bed.

Where was he?

The room had an oddly familiar scent, a scent so special it only belonged to Napa. But there was no way he was in Napa’s bed. That was just weird.

He sat up, his back cracking as he did so. Sitting up felt harder than usual. Maybe he needed to loose a few pounds.

He pulled the blanket away, sliding his feet to the ground and sitting at the bed side.

Did he forget something?

..Wouldnt be important if he forgot.

”Shit, I missed the Viking meeting.” He said to himself, cursing himself for falling asleep again. He swore he went but clearly he didn’t. That wasn’t important though. What was important would be how he’d explain to Napa. Holy shit this was bad.

Actually no, what was worse was how Napa was sitting by his bedside, drifting with sleep. Was Napa mad? Would he be okay with extra skipping for a day since they were friends? They aren’t friends. He got up in a rush, already contemplating about what to say to explain himself.

Yes, once again, he tumbled to the floor.

NAPARIZEL’S POV

His eyes snapped open at the sound of a loud thump. Usually, he would’ve been more non chalant about these things, like an intruder. But today, it was special. He didn’t like the thought of extra getting hurt anytime soon.

He expected anything and everything, an intruder, extra trying to kill him, an assassin, and etc.

what greeted him was something he’d never expect

It was extra, of course. Face planted in the ground just lying there.

“Getting comfortable there buddy?” Napa noticeably relaxed. Extra grumbled something in response, but Napa didn’t catch a single word. He just nodded as if extra could see him, humming in agreement.

” ‘m sry”

“What?”

”Im sorry”

”No, I heard you. Sorry for what..?”

”for missing training.” Right then and there, Napas worst fears came true. “Please don’t get upset, I know I overslept. It won’t happen again.”

Tsk

“Napa?” Napa looked away. He couldn’t stand looking into his best friends eyes. Was that really what he was to extra now? Just a cruel tyrant?

“Napa, I’m sorry….plea-“

”Stop.”

”…I-“

”I said stop.”

He secretly glanced at extra, who was fiddling with his sleeves. Extra had always done that since they met, clearly showing he was nervous about something. Why was extra so on edge even with Napa? Had Napa messed up that badly?

“Is that how you see me now?”

”what..?”

”Extra, despite what I’ve done, haven’t we been through enough for you to understand that…that…” Napa swallowed his words. He didn’t want to sound weak.

”Napa?”

“Nevermind.” Napa got up to leave, the creaking of the door cutting through the tense air.

”Next time, if you’re sick, don’t come to training.” Napa said, selecting his words carefully. He didn’t want to sound too harsh. Napa cautiously looked back at extra, who was stupidly staring at Napa with..concern? Sadness? He couldn’t tell anymore.

Maybe Napa was really getting too far. Not being able to read extra was something he never thought he wouldn’t understand.

Maybe extra felt him staring, because extra looked away.

”and please.”

Extra looked back

”Take care of yourself more.”

EXTRAEXTROVERTED’S POV

As Napa slammed the door, well no. Extra was being dramatic. Napa closed the door quietly, too quietly. It was like he was defeated. It hurt seeing Napa like that. What had extra done wrong?

He could only contemplate silently, trying to listen for any sounds of Napa.

During their conversation, extra had learned a couple of new things. One, he was sick. How surprising! No wonder he felt like shit all morning. Clearly, it wasn’t his fault.

Second of all, this was not his house. All the signs pointed at the fact that this was clearly napa’s house. The bed was soft, too soft. Things only Napa would ponder about. Extra just brought whatever, resulting him with a rather rocky mattress. Maybe that’s why he hated mornings.

Last and finally, Napa was upset. Really upset. Not in the way extra was expecting though. He thought Napa would be angry, absolutely furious. Instead, he was met with a rather calm and sad Napa. What had happened?

Apologize.

Apologize Apologize Apologize.

”what?” Extra mumbled to himself. He was going crazy.

Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologize Apologi-

“ALRIGHT ALRIGHT.”

Extra got off the floor, his arms drooping by his side. He didn’t know if Napa would be upset with him not resting right now, but he felt a really weird feeling somewhere around his chest. Maybe guilt.

He didn’t want to let Napa worry about him. He wasn’t weak or fragile. He could take care of himself.

Back then, extra knew Napa’s house like the back of his hand.

Now? Not so much. It hadn’t changed that much, but he hasn’t been here in ages.

As he walked down the stairs, he was careful not to trip over his own feet. That would be embarrassing . It smelled kind of nice. He smelt a whiff of chicken, Yum!

He followed that scent straight to the kitchen, where Napa was silently staring at a pot of delicious chicken noodle soup. How had Napa understood what he liked? He remembered the day Napa called his taste buds a hazard after they tried 20 different meals, rejected by extra.

The thought made him smile.

Napa was always a good cook. You kind of had to be. If your food didn’t look appetizing, no enemies would consume your poison.

Extra wrapped his arms around Napa’s waist, Napa gasping in surprise as he was interrupted from his moping session

Before Napa could speak, extra cut to the chase.

”Napa, please, I’m sorry. Don’t be upset with me. Let’s talk. Don’t ignore me napa. Napaaa” Extra was practically whining, he liked napa but he was always so stubborn! Whenever they fought, it was always extra apologizing. Seriously, this had to change. He dug his head into Napa’s shoulder. “I’m really sorry! Please Napa, my heart can’t take thisss. Take pity on me. I’m sick”

Extra was planning on sarcastically fake coughing, but that triggered him to actually cough. Damn, this was uncomfortable. If Napa kept this up, he’d be dead by the morning. Why was he friends with someone so..Was him and Napa even friends anymore?

”Seriously, how long do you want to torture me for. Your going to make me worried sick.”

”so you do care about me!”

”…”

“alrightarlight Im sorry!” Extra chuckled slightly, moving back to plop down into a chair. How come Napa had all the good furniture? “Are you stealing all the comfy things in our kingdom?”

”no, it’s called caring about my comfort before blindly purchasing.”

”how mean, you wound me.” That rewarded extra was the warmth of Napa’s laugh. He hadn’t heard Napa genuinely laugh in a good minute.

How long had it been since they hanged out so casually like this? Like friends, not as colleagues?

His thoughts were interrupted as Napa placed a bowl of well presented chicken noodle soup which was almost instantly devoured by extra. He hadn’t even realized he was hungry.

”extra, if you keep eating like that your going to choke and get plumpy”

“…”

”are you fat shaming me naparizel?”

”no!”

”…”

Napa giggled again, music to extra’s ears. God, it felt so good to be with Napa again. Napa was always someone he connected with instantly, not so much recently but still. He thought napa and him would never be able to be casual again.

Maybe god took pity on him.

Oh well, he wasn’t complaining. Extra had always seen this coming. Naparizel and Him was never meant to stay friends. Napa was manipulative and yearned for power. Extra? He yearned for  their friendship.

He knew he’d never find someone like Napa in a million years, but their priorities didn’t align. It was never meant to be.

Extra

Maybe if extra was better in a way. Maybe if Napa wasn’t so focused on destroying the world. Maybe they would’ve been friends forever.

Extra

He knew Napa couldn’t control the wither storm. He had done his own research, much to Napa’s dismay. The wither storm was uncontrollable, the heart of chaos.

Extra

Why won’t extra stop him? Well, he knew napa way too well. Napa was stubborn, way too stubborn for his own good.

”EXTRA!” Extra flinched, practically jumping out of the chair. “What..?”

”God..what could you possibly be thinking about?? I’ve called your name like 50 times!”

”Oh”

”Oh???”

”sorry about that, I’m just tired”

Napa looked at him with uncertainty, he probably knew extra was lying.

Napa opened and closed his mouth, it looked like he wanted to say something but refrained from doing so.

That was the least of his concerns right now.

His biggest concern, and first priority, was to find a way to keep Napa safe from the wither storm.
