Work Text:
The bass thumped. There was no other way to describe it. Sweat trickled down his back. His hair plastered to his face and neck. His feet danced across the floor as if they'd been doing it all their lives.
His hips moved rhythmically. His arms swung in the air and his head bobbed along. Conor felt alive. He danced as if he were alone.
The entire club was packed with people and he kept feeling physical contact with strangers. However, he refused to dance with anyone. He came here to free his mind, not to meet new people.
His mouth started to stick. He desperately needed water. Reaching the bar, he simply nodded to the bartender. They knew him. He paid for the water and downed it in one gulp.
"Can I buy you another drink?" came a voice from his left. Conor turned and looked up. Standing before him was a tall man with blue eyes and blond curls. Handsome. But that was all. He shook his head. "No, thanks," he said, turning and walking back onto the dance floor.
He definitely wasn't done yet. As time passed, the dance floor emptied and Conor felt stares. Burning stares. He turned around, searching. The blond man looked at him, grinning when their eyes met. Conor rolled his eyes and tried to find refuge in the music again. But those eyes were seared into his memory.
Suddenly, he felt hands on his hips. Conor jerked around as if he'd just been burned, knocking the hands off his hips. He looked into the blue eyes that wouldn't leave his mind.
"Shane!" the man shouted across the club trying to be heard over the music. "Don't touch me, Shane," Conor hissed. Shane immediately raised his hands defensively, but continued to grin at Conor. Conor tried to keep dancing. However, his thoughts kept drifting back to Shane and that was annoying him.
Shane stood a safe distance away from Conor and started dancing too. Shane knew how to move and Conor noticed. From song to song, the two unconsciously danced towards each other.
Skeptical glances turned into curious ones.
Unconscious movements became synchronized.
A frozen mouth softened into a joyful smile.
"May I?" Shane asked, standing opposite Conor. His gaze was fixed on his hand and Conor's hip. Without thinking, Conor nodded. He didn't even know why. When Shane's warm hand landed on Conor's hip, it felt like being struck by lightning. Baffled, he looked at Shane's hand and then at Shane. He swallowed hard.
Shane smiled broadly and winked slightly. Conor returned the smile. “I have to confess something,” Shane said, looking nervous. Conor frowned and looked at Shane curiously. “I often watch you dance. But today I finally had the courage to talk to you,” Shane said, looking down at the floor. Conor chuckled. He found Shane’s shyness much more appealing than his macho posturing. Conor placed his hand under Shane’s face and made him look up. “I’m so glad you had the courage,” he grinned at him.
The night was almost over. Conor and Shane danced all night. They spoke to each other from time to time, but were always drawn back into the music. The dances became closer, the steps more suggestive. “You’re driving me crazy, Conor,” Shane whispered in Conor’s ear. A light shiver ran down Conor’s arms. Not only the way Shane said it, but even the way he pronounced his name made him dizzy. He bit his lip.
"What are you up to later?" Conor heard himself ask. "Anything you want," Shane replied without hesitation. The men laughed.
Both hearts pounded as they left the club.
Both hearts nearly leaped with anticipation as Conor unlocked the door to his apartment. Both mouths met hard for the first time right inside the apartment door.
Both bodies were undressed.
Both men breathed heavily as they lay sweating side by side in bed.
