Work Text:

“what do you think?” ilya said, stroking shane’s shoulder, looking at the crib in front of them.

“this side is crooked,” shane replied, touching the right side of the crib. “no, is not.” ilya quickly replied.

shane chuckled,”i’m kidding,” he looked at ilya, who was getting all defensive because he can’t mess his future daughter’s bed.

ilya’s lips curls a little, forming a smile. he can’t believe this is his life now. the life he had always dreamed of. waking up next to shane, doing everything together, and of cource — having his own family.

shane’s baby bump is now getting a lot bigger, if ilya can compare it to last month, it obviously is bigger. both of them are excited for this new chapter of their life, being a parent — and to a girl! but inside, shane is terrified. his mom has already told him how painful it was togive birth, and knowing yuna hollander, she didn’t even sugarcoat any of the description that she said to her son.

*three weeks ago*

“oh, it’s awful! this is probably why i only had one kid,” yuna said, rolling her eyes before sipping her coffee. “anyone who said it’s wonderful? they are lying, straight up! being a mother — especially to you is wonderful and amazing! but giving birth? screw that! i would never go through that again.” she finishes her sentence, throwing her hands on the air. signaling defeat to giving birth, i guess?

shane just looked at her, terrified of what will happen to him if the baby decides to come out while he’s not yet ready. yuna seems to notice this, she moved forward, reaching her sons hand. “you’re scared,” she said. it is more like a statement not a question. “honey, you can do it. i mean, you had, uhm…” yuna looked up, counting something in her head. “ten? no, twelve concussion from playing hockey, you can do this.” shane let out a laugh, that ‘encouraging word’ didn’t help AT ALL.

“i know, mom. i’m excited too. for this new life.” he said, forcing a smile to his mom, trying to hide the fact that he’s still scared. “besides,” yuna smiled, letting go of shane’s hand. “you have ilya.” she added, making shane blush a little. “ah, yeah, ilya.” shane looked down, hiding his smile from his mom.

*present*

shane is lying on the sofa when he heard a loud noise from their bedroom. it sounds like someone fell from a high place. “fudge!” ilya shouted, wincing in pain. ever since shane got pregnant, ilya made a rule that no one is allowed to say ‘bad words’ near shane. afraid that his daughter might pick it up, her first words would be ‘fuck off,’ or ‘fuck you.’

“ilya? what happened?!” shane shouted from the living room. the bedroom and living room is not that far from one another. after retiring from hockey, shane and ilya decided to just stay in one place, no traveling or moving far away from home. a place where shane is most comfortable, the cottage.

“nothing, just uhh..” ilya tries to find a word to describe what the heck he’s doing. “what is all this, ilya? why do you have so many bags?” ilya looked at shane, who was standing at the door holding his hips. he doesn’t seem mad?  ilya thought to himself. “i was… uh—” ilya got cut off. “are you going somewhere? ilya, the baby is almost due.” shane sighed, trying not to get mad. what was ilya thinking leaving him at a time like this? “no, baby, no. it’s not like that. it’s.. just..” ilya got up, slowly walking towards shane, spreading his arms out to hug him. “i’m not going anywhere, am not leaving you.” ilya buried his face on shane’s neck.

“i was just…” ilya caressed shane’s back. “preparing our hospital bags.” ilya looked at shane, touching his face. admiring his oh-so-adorable freckles. god, ilya hoped that their daughter would get shane’s freckles, he prayed that every night.

“ilya.” shane groaned. “we don’t need ten hockey bags for the hospital.” shane said, looking around their messed up room. he would get angry that their room is a mess but he just find his husband so cute, preparing for this like it’s the olympics.

“you don’t know that. besides i already asked yuna what to bring in hospital, just in case.” ilya took one of the bag and showed it to shane. it has diapers, baby wipes, candies, biscuits, clothes for shane and the baby, camera, and “why is there a ginger ale in the bag?” shane asked, picking up the room temperature drink from the bag.

“what? you like it.” ilya looked at shane like its the most obvious thing in the world. shane has not been drinking anything other than water since they found out he’s pregnant. he’s consistent with his diet that’s given to him by their doctor. well, except for that time where he’s craving fish and chips that ilya made him when they were staying at boston on their second anniversary. it was the middle of the night, shane was crying beside ilya trying to contain his emotion and sobs. in the end, ilya woke up from his sobs and scolded shane, just ask, next time. i will make it for you. those were ilya’s words.

“there is a whole pack of it here,” ilya said, putting the bag down, trying to find which bag he put the whole pack of ginger ale. “da, here, see.” he grined. he must be feeling proud. shane didn’t say anything, he just smiled and looked at ilya who was still holding the bag full of ginger ale. i love him so much. shane thought to himself. ilya bringing a whole bag of ginger ale is a stupid idea. stupid but adorable.

another week has passed, shane’s getting a lot of pain, probably a sign that their daughter will come out soon. “ooow..” shane hissed, his back has been killing him since the start of this pregnancy, but good lord, it was worse now.

“hurts? we can go to hospital now.” ilya said, moving closer to his husband. “no, i think it’s another false labor thing. i’ll be fine.” shane smiled at ilya, probably trying to ease ilya’s worries. “i think not,” ilya said, looking down which made shane confuse. “what are you talk—” this pissed off shane, it’s not like ilya’s the one carrying the baby. how dare he say that? sure, they had a couple of fights during the pregnancy and, okay, ilya was always right, but how dare he?

“your water just broke, look.” ilya pointed at the couch, but he didn’t really turn around to let shane see it. he needs to get shane in the hospital immediately.

Notes:

its actually my first time writing (and publishing) a fanfiction. english is NOT my first language and i feel like i mischaracterized yuna a little lol. I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PREGNANCY PLEASE SPARE ME I HAVEN'T BEEN PREGNANT. also i googled ginger ale if its alcoholic and google said no so i think its safe for pregnancy

these days, hollanov has been consuming my thoughts, and i just can't get them out of my head.

that's probably it.

but if you want to be parasocial with me i can tell you why i wrote this.

i can't stop thinking about ilya getting shane pregnant and them having their first daughter. i imagine it would be a chaos knowing both of them usually freak out a lot. and i pretty much just love #mpeg so much.
