Chapter 1: unexpected roles

Chapter Text

"Mabel, come on, hurry up, I don't want to be late!"

Pacifica was at the shack waiting impatiently for Mabel; they were going to the mall together, but Mabel was taking her time getting ready. About 5 years had passed since Weirdmageddon, and Dipper and Mabel were now 17 years old. Every summer they traveled to Gravity Falls; Mabel's relationship with Pacifica had improved, as it had with Dipper, but that still didn't stop Pacifica from having her "rich girl" moments. Fed up with waiting, Pacifica saw Dipper with the remote control flipping through channels and approached him.

"Hey, clumsy, what are you doing?". Pacifica sat on the sofa next to Dipper.

"Oh, nothing interesting, just watching TV."

Dipper was taller now and had gained a bit of muscle; for her part, Pacifica, despite not being as tall as Dipper, didn't let that stop her from being intimidating when necessary. She no longer used as much makeup, only what was necessary, and had become quite a woman. Pacifica looked at the channels with confusion; she didn't remember Gravity Falls having those channels.

Dipper looked at her and saw her confused face.

"My Uncle Ford, on his journey through dimensions, was given this magic remote control; it shows TV channels from different universes." Dipper gave her the remote control and Pacifica took it.

She looked at the remote control and started changing channels.

"Ugh, I can't find anything that interests me."

She gave him the remote control and, out of the corner of her eye, looked at the floor and saw a DVD of the complete How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.

Dipper noticed this. "Do you want to watch it?"

Pacifica, with an air of superiority, told him, "Ugh, I suppose it's better than staring at the wall while your sister decides which sweater to wear."

Dipper took the disc and put it in the video recorder and took the magic remote control to press play on the movie; Pacifica snatched it from his hand.

"I’ll do it," she said.

"Pacifica, you don't know how to use it, give it to me!"

"No, I want to do it!"

"Pacifica, be careful My Uncle Ford said that remote has settings that even he doesn't fully understand."

The two began to struggle and accidentally Pacifica pressed a button that transported them into the TV, leaving the remote control on the sofa.

"Pacifica, I'm ready, we can go now!" said an excited Mabel, coming down the stairs. But she found that neither Dipper nor Pacifica were in the living room.

Dipper and Pacifica fell onto the hard ground of Berk.

"Where are we?" Pacifica said.

Dipper, annoyed by what happened, approached her.

"Pacifica, look what you did! Because of you we entered the TV and now we are"

Dipper didn't finish what he was saying after he saw a dragon flying through the air. Pacifica looked at it and saw how thousands of dragons flew through the sky.

Dipper's anger disappeared and changed to excitement.

"Paz, do you know where we are?"

Pacifica was going to answer him when she saw in the distance a dragon that was on the ground; it couldn't move, it had a net over it.

"Dipper, look!"

Dipper turned and saw the black dragon with green eyes and pointed ears; there was no doubt, that dragon was Toothless.

"Quick, take out the knife you have to free him"

"Pacifica, what are you talking about? I don't have" and he saw a knife in her hand; he had it this whole time?

Dipper looked at himself and realized that he had the clothes Hiccup used in the first movie: the same boots, the same shirt, everything. And then he looked at Pacifica; she was wearing Astrid's clothes and also her hair had the same braid that Astrid uses in the first movie.

"Pacifica, I'm Hiccup!"

Pacifica looked at him, not surprised at all, and told him:

"Yes, I already know, clumsy"

Dipper gave a half-smile and, with an air of superiority, told her:

"Have you looked in a mirror yet?"

Pacifica didn't understand what he was saying and looked toward her clothes and realized; surprised and with a slight blush, she said:

"But what is this... this atrocity?"

she exclaimed, touching the tight braid that now replaced her perfect hairstyle.

"I look like an extra from a cheap Renaissance fair! And it smells like... like old leather and sweat"

She looked at the fur boots and then pointed at Dipper with her index finger, her face turning from pale to intense red.

"And not a word about the axe, Pines! If you laugh at my spiked skirt, I swear I'll leave you just like that dragon!"

"Relax, I wasn't going to laugh," he said with a slight smile drawn on his face.

"It's just that, you know, you look different... but look on the bright side, we are the protagonists, nothing bad is going to happen to us."

Meanwhile, Toothless panted, trying to remove the net.

"All right Pines, that is your dragon, go and free him." Pacifica pushed him and Dipper approached Toothless.

Dipper, nervous and fearful, tries to approach; he takes small steps toward where Toothless is with his trembling hands, but he doesn't succeed.

"You know what; why don't you do it, Paz?" Dipper steps back and pushes Pacifica toward where Toothless is

"You don't know how to deal with dragons."

"I don't know how to deal with animals, actually."

Pacifica took the knife and freed him, and Toothless approached her, but Pacifica tried to calm him and touch him; however, when she tried to rest her hand on the dragon's head, Toothless pulled away and left.

Dipper, now being calmer, approached Pacifica.

"Pacifica, are you okay? Did he do something to you? It's my fault, I shouldn't have told you to free him, I should have done it myself," Dipper said, nervous and with panic.

Pacifica, shocked by what occurred.

"I'm fine... no, nothing happened," she said while watching Toothless leave.

Dipper was going to say something when a horn sounded in the distance, vibrating the mountains of the island. Dipper paled upon recognizing the sound.

"I think we should go," Dipper said, going on the way to Berk.

Pacifica said nothing and went following him.

The thunder of the Arena still resonated in Dipper's ears as he walked away, limping toward the forest. He didn't want to look back. He didn't want to see the disappointed faces of the Vikings.

"That was a disaster, Pines We almost became human skewers"

Pacifica exclaimed, walking behind him while trying, without success, to remove the dust from her leather skirt.

"That green dragon almost tore my arm off! And you just stood there trying to find the index of the manual"

"I know, I know," Dipper said, sighing.

"But hey, at least we survived, right?" Dipper said.

"Survived?". Repeats Pacifica, indignant

"I saved you! If it weren't for me, who was watching your back, you'd be dead"

"Yes, yes, thank you, Your Highness," Dipper said, sarcastic and annoyed, making a bow toward Pacifica.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to look for Toothless."

Pacifica took him by the arm. "You're going to look for the dragon that rejected me?"

"Look, I have a theory that the way to get out of here is to do exactly what the script dictates. In the movie, Hiccup goes to look for Toothless and train him; I will do the same".

With a grave, deep voice; his eyes fixed on her shone with a determination he rarely saw. "What happened this morning when we arrived... no, I shouldn't have told you to free the dragon. I should have done it myself. I am Hiccup. I am that dragon's right hand, not you".

Pacifica looked at him surprised and let go of Dipper's arm.

"Fine. If we are going to follow our roles", Pacifica turns around and heads towards berk

"Where are you going?" Dipper said.

"Oh, obviously to look for my dragon and train it to obey me, clumsy"

Dipper let out a laugh while watching her walk away and went deep into the forest to look for Toothless.
