When I saw you there, on your balcony gazing out to the sea….I already knew I loved you then. You entranced me the moment I saw you. I relive that night in my dreams, every time I close my eyes.

Rielle’s POV:
I swam as fast as my fins could take me. I could hear the distant calls of my siblings and father from within the palace walls. I ducked behind a pillar and turned my head back to check if the cost was clear.
‘ Almost there….’
The sudden booming of my fathers voice echoed through the open corridors,
‘ ‘ RIELLE! Once I find you, you’ll be GROUNDED FOR WEEKS!!! ’ ’
‘ Uh-huh yikes, ok he seems very angry—It’s whatever I just need to get to the back end and… ’
I maneuvered my way past a few searching guards as I finally made my way to the secret place I usually exit the palace.
‘ YESSS! SCORE!!! ’
I silently cheered, clutching my satchel as I swam forward. I didn’t look back, not even once.

If I had to chose between you…and my family. I think…no, I know I would chose you. I’d chose you a hundred—no a THOUSAND times over. To walk on land besides you is…an honor…a gift I’d never trade away.

Rielle’s POV:
I was getting closer to shore this time, my father always says it’s dangerous because I am a mermaid prince but I don’t care. He’s always been superstitious about these things I honestly wish he would just leave it alone. It’s been established long long ago that humans are not inherently bad, his head is so stuck up in the past I can’t stand it.
As I was approaching the shoreline, I quickly peaked half of my head out, my bun and dinglehopper, which I hastily shoved in while swimming away back at the palace, was dripping water on my forehead.
That’s when I saw him. He was gazing out the balcony at the ocean and stars.
He was beautiful...
The most beautiful person I’d ever seen.
The way his cheek rested in palm of his hand as he sighed softly, blowing a piece of hair out of his face. His bronze skin looked like it glowed in the moonlight. His silken deep brown hair tied in a multitude of sections forming a bubble braid. His eyes fluttered softly his dark lashes lowering to reveal a beautiful sea green eyeshadow that reminded me of my home. And his eyes…oh his eyes…such deep dark piercing brown irises, I felt their warmth enveloped me whole. I stared longly at him for what felt like hours…
I knew it then, I needed to see him again.

There’s no treasure in the world, no gift offered, no sweetened words, no amount of anything, that could give me the same feeling I get when I look into your eyes. They wrap around my soul giving me a feeling warmth inside no blanket could ever provide.

Rielle’s POV:
The next evening I managed to escape the palace, he was there again, this time he was walking along the shoreline.
My heartbeat quickened and my breath hitched, I placed my hand on my chest subconsciously as if it could slow down the movement. It wouldn’t. I knew it wouldn’t anyways.
And then… I called out to him.
I was barely able to process it, honestly it just came out inherently.
His head sharply turned, his gaze meeting mine. I held my breath as he silently observed me for a moment. His dark brows slightly furrowed inquisitively at me.
‘ ‘ Who are you? ’ ’
His tone firm and demanding, his voice sending flutters to my stomach.
‘ ‘ I am Prince Rielle… ’ ’

I’m so glad I met you on that evening. I’m so so grateful that in that moment we first met, I called out for you. I wouldn’t trade my moments with you away for anything. You inspire me, bring life to me, you give me purpose.

Rielle’s POV:
We kept talking and have grown quite close lately, I frequently would sneak out to meet him. He told me that he will be enrolled into Royal Sword Academy a few meetings ago.
Right now was important though, I had something big to tell him that I needed him to know…
My tail fins splashed as I hurried to the surface of the water, we agreed to meet at this time specifically so that I could share the news. I couldn’t keep the grin off my face as I excitedly jumped out of the water, breaking the surface again to dive down in excitement. I swam to the shoreline and…
There he was…in all of his divine glory. His head turned towards me as a smile lit up his face, he looked radiant.
‘ ‘ Rielle! ’ ’
The way he said my name made my heart jump every time.
‘ ‘ I’m ready, what was it that you need to tell me? ’ ’
‘ Right. The letter. ’
I turned to my satchel and pulled out a letter, it dripped as he reached out to grab it, the Royal Sword Academy stamp shining under the sun.
‘ ‘ This is… ’ ’
His eyes brightened as he recognized the stamp, his head lifted to me as if to confirm that this was really true. His hopeful gaze set my heart on fire.
We sat on the sand the water brushing my tail as he clutches the letter firmly.
‘ ‘ My father is letting me go, I’m not very prepared but I’m willing to try for y— ’ ’
My voice was cut off sharply as he grabbed my shoulders and kissed me.
He kissed me.
Tears spilled out of my eyes as we gazed at each other my words shaking as I pull him into a tight hug.
‘ ‘ I love you. ’ ’

You once asked me what my world was like after sharing all of your stories of your family. But…. my world it isn’t the sea…and it’s not the land either. My world changes, it shifts and moves…to wherever you are.
