Work Text:

"..what."

Rocky was confused. What had June possibly seen there that made her do a 180 on her heel and walk out the same way she had walked in. If Harrod were there, June wouldn't had come out of there this calmly so he knew this possibility was out of the window.

While the doors were slowly closing, audible yelling could be heard which made him rather concerned than nosy now. Somehow the little bro gained big brother instincts and had the need to interfere.

Rocky placed his paw on the door and pushed it outwards. He stepped in and walked towards the toilets. The voice of the yelling became more and more recognizable. The shouts loudened. The tension grew. He walked in the main room.

"SHUT UP, I DON'T WANNA HEAR YOU, LEAVE ME BE"

Is that Ferris? What is going on? Who is he talking to? Why is he crying? So many questions and so little answers. Is this what June saw? Why didn't she-

*gasp*

Ferris quickly jumped as he realized he was seen and immediately locked his eyes on the visitor. Fuck fuck fuck. Rocky could see Ferris trying to form a smile on his face out of nothing but that failed. His legs trembled and soon Rocky saw him get down on the floor crying again, now less audibly as he covered his breakdown in his palms.

Welp, Rocky was in a tough spot now. He couldn't just leave, his morale would not allow him. He didn't know pretty much anything about June's friend (status still questioned) yet he really felt the need to help him. But how? Rocky wanted to help him before someone else would enter the room and make the scene awkward. He slowly started making moves towards the depressed fluffball.

"Ferris..."

He made sure he said it audibly and clear yet there was no response, just sobs. While making his way towards him, Rocky was getting a clean handkerchief out of his pocket. The stress was building up as he realized he had to think thoroughly what to say.

Rocky made it to Ferris. He kept a safe distance from the pile of sadness – respecting his personal space while showing he is available to help if he needs it. Seeing all the tears falling from Ferris' hidden face, Rocky offers him the handkerchief somewhere he thought he can notice it.

"T-thanks.."

For some reason now he felt like he had been allowed to comfort him some more so he sat next to the sad pup and wrapped his arm around his shoulder. Suddenly Rocky was struck. He felt good about himself for helping a person in need but that wasn't all was it. Ferris' shaky voice rang in Rocky's head for a while. He found his voice quite... sweet? And gentle? What was going on? Is it really appropriate to think about this? Especially right now? And especially while having a girlfriend outside surely looking for him?

As was our confused protagonist fighting his inner battles, Ferris cried out his last tears, rubbed his eyes and started to brighten up a bit. He got up on his legs which made Rocky scared a little.

"Thanks R-Rocky, I'll- I'll return it clean!"

Before Rocky snapped back to reality to tell him there was really no need to, Ferris was gone. It was quiet here again. On the floor tile where the sorrow sat was now just a puddle of tears and sweat mixed together. The show! Rocky finally realized what he's here for. He stood up and made his way towards the doors.

"I got to know him better"

He said to himself while slightly wagging his tail.
