Chapter Text
It had started as an ordinary day at the Hazbin Hotel. The Pride Ring residents were up to their usual violent tendencies, between all the blood and screams coming from outside it sounded normal. That was until Charlie got a letter.
Letters were not unusual for the hotel. Many residents preferred them over texts for some reason and the usual scam mail still came through. But it was not often any of the permanent residents and staff got mail. So Charlie was very surprised to get a letter addressed to her waiting for her on her desk after the last group therapy session of the day. She had gotten through a tough day full of clients with various issues. So the letter was an unwelcome surprise.
She sighed and picked it up, then dropped in shock. It was from her mother, a woman she hadn’t seen in well over a decade at this point. She fell into her chair and stared at the piece of paper in front of her. Her mind was racing with possible reasons for her mothers sudden return. How did her mother find her to send her a letter? And what could she want now? Was she in trouble? It had been almost twelve years total since she had seen her. This was bizarre for many reasons.
She picked up the envelope with shaking hands and ripped it open. It read “Dear Charlie, I know how odd this must seem to you. Heaven knows how odd it is for me. But I feel it is now time and you are now ready for the truth. I have set a time for us to meet next week in the gluttony ring. If you choose to come, I have provided the time and place of this meeting. I hope to see you then.”
After this was the assigned hotel she wanted them to meet, with a meeting time for next week on Wednesday at 4:00 pm. Very specific but that was the least concerning part right now. She immediately called her dad to come to her office. He showed up seconds later, with her other dad, Alastor in tow. Both looked very concerned.
“Sweetie, what’s wrong?” Lucifer asked. She didn’t say a word but she handed them the latter. They both read in silence before Alastor asked. “When did this come in?” Charlie replied in a shaky voice. “Sometime while I was out. What do you think it means?”
Lucifer scoffed. “It means your mother most likely wants you to join her on whatever campaign she’s on this week. She heard about all your success and glory and wants some of that for her own benefit.” He looked at his daughter while talking. He knew exactly what his ex wife was capable of, so her suddenly showing an interest in Charlie was bad.
Alastor could sense what his partner was thinking. “What could she be planning now?” “Beats me, but I’m sure it has to do with ending sinners. That’s why she left me; I wouldn’t help her kill everyone I rule over.”
Charlie stood up now, hands leaning on her desk. “Whatever she wants, it can’t be good. I find it very suspicious she reached out to the hotel rather than trying me directly first. If she knows where we are, it can only mean disaster later on down the line if her plan is to eradicate sinners.” She looked at her dads now. “But what I do know is that we have worked way too hard to let my negligent mother ruin it all now.”
She walked over the window and looked out before turning to them. “I want to go. But I want both of you there with me. I can’t do this without both of you.” Lucifer and Alastor looked at each other for a moment before Lucifer asked. “We’re both more than happy to go, but are you sure it’s a good idea? What if she turns on you for it?”
Charlie smiled now. “I don’t care what she thinks or doesn’t think. She had a chance to be present and threw it away for power. I want to hear her out, but I want my parents there with me.”
Both her dads were crying now. “Charlie, I want you to know that even if your dad can’t bring himself to be there, I’ll be there no matter what.” Alastor said through the crackle of his voice. “And that’s why I’m with you and not Lilith.” Lucifer said.
“Group hug.” Charlie said, grabbing them both. All three were crying now. “Alright, I’ll go tell Vaggi the plan. She’ll have a plan of what to pack and how to manage the hotel while we’re gone. You two need to figure out who will fill your spots next week. And I’ll start discussing with my clients how to make their up time in their thearpy.” Charlie stated matter of factly.
And with that, the Morningstar family split up to see to these tasks. Charlie was still very nervous watching her parents go, but she knew that she would be able to accomplish this because she had them. And with that, she started her planning for the next week.
