Chapter Text
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: THIS WILL BE UPDATED FROM TIME TO TIME SO PLEASE CHECK
- IM ONLY GETTING STARTED IN PERCY JACKSON. AS I WRITE THIS I FINISHED READING SEA OF MONSTERS. You may sense some changes while the fic uploads, and that is why.
- I know generally in media where mythology is concerned, certain gods are vilified, which may send the people who worship them uncomfortable or even offended. (ex, Loki in Magnus Chase, Apollo in Lore Olympus). Even though everyone is right to their own interpretation, I understand this; as such, the gods depicted here will not be vilified, and not one of them is going to be a villain.
NOTE: Hours after writing this. Many sources show the gods as being rather benevolent to humanity, yet still punishing when needed. I will follow through with this general idea. - Another important note is that the Philippines, where I’m from (for those wondering, I’m Cuyonon, raised in Manila, whose ass is stuck in France), is an extremely diverse land with so many different cultures and practices that need to be protected and preserved. Which means in this diversity, we have so many different versions of the gods and legends. Everyone has a different idea of what a tiyanak is, or how the Bakunawa came to be. I will be using the myths I grew up with, as trying to fit EVERY single version of these stories will be very complicated. I will try to be as accurate as I can.
- No Caleo here. I’m (not) sorry, but why is a kid dating a girl hundreds of years older than him??? She doesn’t even treat him that well, apparently. Edit: After a while I believe Calypso should be a hunter. A single fanart convinced me lmao.
- For those familiar with Philippine mythology, you may have heard of the love story between the moon god and the death god, both men. Unfortunately, though it is very much spread, it is in fact a hoax. The obscurity of our myths leads to false stories spreading easily. There is no historical evidence that the two gods were ever together. For more information, I will drop some links below:

Please keep in mind that Philippine mythology is still very much queer aside from this incident. So many gods are intersex, androgynous, trans, etc., or just go beyond the two genders. - I am slowly going insane. Our mythology is so fucked that, as I write this, I ponder if doing this fanfic, which is from good intentions, is even a good idea. I want to share my culture with the world. LIKE MAYARI IS NOT EVEN THE REAL NAME OF THE MOON GODDESS, IT’S KULALAYING? My life is a lie?? I’m spiralling. What if nothing is true. omfg. I will summon the ghosts of Spanish colonisers and torture them for this.
Update: I refuse to give up. Ignore this. But I keep it here for the sake of being genuine. - Throughout the book, I will give some explanations of what certain mythical creatures are and their myths. Bc let’s be frank (ha), Greek Mythology is just more well-known.
- Again, sigh. I know I can’t please everyone. Not the researchers who are far more adept than I, not the actual worshippers of the gods/diwatas/anitos. Which is why I need to remind you of the golden rule. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THIS! SCROLL AWAY! NO NEED TO MAKE A FUSS. IF THERE ARE ANY INACCURACIES WITH HOW OUR FILIPINO GODS ARE PORTRAYED, PLEASE. PLEASE. TELL ME. I’D LOVE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH YOU BECAUSE THE STATE OF OUR MYTHS AND STORIES IS A VERY INTERESTING TOPIC.
- My final note: I am rather taken by the show's casting and the official art, so I have my own designs for the Seven, which I will probably share someday. Do note that Annabeth and Jason are black. If you have a problem, wow. Just. Wow. Percy HAS black hair, but he has dyed some of his hair blonde-ish; that hair is curly.
