Chapter Text
Vermo looked around. Lotus Lair was beautiful, but they knew better than to trust a place like this. They had a mission.
They looked up at the thing before them. He stared back, smiling in that fake body of his.
“Please, if you drop this now, we do not have to get the other reapers involved. Just stop resurrecting the dead-”
“Aww. But what's the fun in that?”
“It is upsetting the balance-”
His face turned into a scowl, “That's all you Reapers care about. You're only focused on half of the things I do. I drain people's lives, I kill hundreds a month! Yet all you care about is your precious little balance.”
He smiled again, “That's a ‘no’ if you couldn't get it through your head.”
Vermo's wings twitched, and they prepared to summon their weapon-
Right. Orders. Don't strike unless he does so first. Stupid peace talk. Why did they choose Vermo? They weren't exactly known for being a smooth talker.
Deep down, they knew. They were always the weakest reaper. They were expendable.
“Run along now, little butterfly! I’ve got things to get to!” He smiled even wider, landing right in front of Vermo.
… Vermo didn’t receive orders to leave. They were told to finish the peace talk.
“Please, you can still be evil or whatever it is you want-”
He turned around and glared at them, “I can’t get by on just draining life force. Bringing them back is where the fun is!”
“A-”
“Oh, no no no. You don’t get to use my name.”
Lotus stems erupted from the ground, and attempted to ensnare Vermo’s wings.
Vermo couldn’t feel their wings, however they could tell by the way the stems moved that one of them had been cut.
Vermo couldn’t run, not with the cave being blocked off by lotus flowers.
The last thing they remember is him grabbing them with his lotuses…
And the world faded to black.
