Chapter Text
Turbo grinned as he won the last race of the way. Turbo was always a winner, and there was nothing he loved more than doing that every single day. He took pride in what he did, and he didn’t care how others thought of him, as long as he won. The arcade closed very shortly after he won, but that didn’t bother him either, he just wanted to get a root beer from Tabbers to celebrate his winnings, as he did everyday.
Turbo decided to get off the track, heading to part where everyone crossed over. While he was over there, he saw everyone around a new plug. He knew they were getting a new game, but he didn’t really care. He knew he had to check it out though, to scope out the competition of course. He walked over there, strutting over next to Bowzer.
“I think this game is going to be stupid. Why do we even need a new game? We get enough traction as it is.” Bowzer gruffs. “I thought the same way about Sonic, but who cares? After the hype died down, everything turned back to normal.” Turbo grumbled. “The point is we don’t need a new game, it’s just going to take up space, when there should be more space for the important people in the arcade! We all know people like us are going to rule this arcade.” Felix wanted to say himself, but he knew he had to flatter Bowzer a little. Bowzer raised an eyebrow.
“Cmon, humor me Bowzer! You just said you felt this way!” Bowzer growled. “You need to get a grip Turbo, we’re all supposed to cheer each other on. I learned my lesson.” Turbo rolled his eyes. “You can’t seriously tell me you’re seriously excited for this stupid game.” Bowzer rolled his eyes, deciding to just walk away.
He heard footsteps behind him, and he immediately recognized them. Felix. Felix always acted like he was as big of a star as he was, but Turbo knew he would always be more popular than him. “I heard this game is really popular! You may have some competition Turbo.” He chuckled, giving him a friendly pat on the back.
“It won’t be as popular as my game, I know that for sure.” Turbo chuckled, giving Felix a short glare. Ralph suddenly appeared behind the pair, how the hell did Turbo not hear the big glutes footsteps? “I think you need to prepare Turbo, I do hear this game is going to be really popular. I even heard it might be a racing game!” Turbo rolled his eyes.
“Theres no way Litwak would put another racing game in here, look at how good my game is!” He said, a strong sense of pride in his game. “I’m not sure buddy!” Felix cut in, getting on Turbo's nerves. “I heard some kids talking, but it may not be!” Felix spoke in a cheery tone, giving Turbo another friendly pat on the back. He hated when he was touched by Felix, he always thought he was stupid. Turbo was ready to bite back, before he got interrupted by the game alarm.
Everyone looked behind them, besides Turbo. He really didn’t care for this new game, everyone in this arcade overreacted all the time. He heard some whispers as the game was coming to life, all he wanted to do was get his root beer. He sighs, finally turning around and feeling his mouth drop.
No fricken way. It was a racing game, and it looked amazing; but he would never admit that! The game was called The Space of Race, and that would never be a better title than Turbo Time! He knew he was fucked, this game was going to be a hit with the kids. He knew he was going to lose half of his audience.
That stupid Felix and Ralph was right, what could he do to fix this! There was no way in hell he’d ever support something called The Space of Race. This posed a massive risk to his game! He knew he needed to nip this in the bud as soon as it got plugged in, and unfortunately all the idiots around him seemed ecstatic to see this new game.
He wished this was like every other day in this damn arcade, he might’ve been better than everyone else; but he liked it that way! He was lost in his thoughts, before he heard a loud cheer. He looked up, seeing what seemed like a racer come out of the game. He can’t help but admit in his mind that the racer honestly looked breathtaking, but he would never admit that out loud.
The racer had a TV head with only one eye, she had a triangle antenna on the left side, but a star antenna on the right. He also had a very cropped jacket, just barely covering his nipples. His shirt was also cropped. Turbo also noticed the racer had four arms, very optimal for racing. He had on shorts with a belt on them. They also had very nice looking boots, and they were extraordinarily tall. Turbo couldn’t help but be attracted to this racer, even if he hated them for existing.
He wasn’t sure of the racers name, and he didn’t care to learn. He knew he had to push his attraction deep down so he could absolutely crush this game. Everyone crowded around this new racer as Turbo stared. He needed to find out as much information as he could, so he walked a little bit closer. He noticed a lot of people were shocked as well, never seeing someone as weird looking as this person.
The creature reached out their name, extending their hand to anyone who would shake it. “Hi! My name is Usagi. What's up everybody?” Felix was the first one who shook his hand. “Welcome to the arcade, Usagi!” Everyone immediately started surrounding Usagi with questions, eagerly expecting answers. Turbo clenched his fists, deciding not to go to tabbers and decided to retreat to his game so he can think, he knew he was fucked, and he desprately needed a plan.
