Chapter Text
Arlecchino Fatui was now the head Harbinger of the Fontainian-based Fatui mafia family. After years of hard service & dirty work, she earned her way to the top and the respect of the Tsaritsa, her mother. There were a lot of bad things Arlecchino had to do. But that was the life of being in a criminal organization. And now, it was Furina's turn, her younger sister. Who was surely going to rise the ranks and join her in ruling Fontaine’s underworld. Right?
In Arlecchino’s personal mansion, Arlecchino was sitting in her personal office, going over ‘paperwork’. Working on money laundering plans and other mundane Fatui work, when she heard a light knock on her door. Arlecchino knew who was exactly knocking by how soft it was. It was done by someone less confident in themselves. Her staff would have done a louder and firmer knock. Meaning, it was clear to Arlecchino who it was.
“Come in, Furina.” Arlecchino responded as she set whatever papers she had down.
Furina opens the door and peeks her head in, “Hey, are you busy?”, she asked nervously.
Arlecchino was, but she always made herself free for Furina. “No, not at all. What do you need?”, she answered.
“We need to talk, sis.” Furina replied nervously.
“Talk?” Arlecchino felt something off. She knew Furina long enough that whatever Furina had to say was going to be a rough talk. “You can come in.”
Furina entered the office, closing the door behind her. She walked up to Arlecchino’s desk. Furina at first avoids Arlecchino's gaze, nervously twirling her thumbs as she looks at the floor. Arlecchino knew something was bothering Furina by the way she spoke and how she was acting with her.
“What is it that you wish to speak about?” Arlecchino asked more softly and in a nicer tone.
Furina took a deep breath before finally meeting Arlecchino’s eyes. “I want to leave the mafia...” Furina finally announced to her.
Arlecchino stared at her. Arlecchino couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Her own sister, wanting to leave their way of life. Arlecchino would have killed anyone else for saying something as unacceptable as that. But Furina wasn’t anyone else. Furina was her sister. Arlecchino couldn’t hurt her own sister.
“I beg your pardon, Furina?” Arlecchino asked again. “Furina, I believe I did not hear you right.”
“I want to leave the mafia.” Furina confirmed what she said. “I want to leave and do something else, sis.”
“.....” Alrecchino was speechless for a moment. “What do you want to do instead?” Arlecchino finally asked.
“You see, I decided that I want to become an actor!” Furina announced to her.
Arlecchino blinks at her. “An actor?”
Out of all of the career choices, being an actor wasn’t the most impressive unless you were famous. However, Arlecchino could see Furina succeeding. Furina had a thing with the theatrics. Even so, it wasn’t the main concern. Being an actor wasn’t beneficial to the ‘family’. A career as a lawyer or doctor would at least be useful to the Mafia’s operations.
“Yeah, you know. An actor. The people on screen for plays, shows, and movies.” Furina unnecessarily explains what an actor is to Arlecchino.
“Furina, I know what an actor is!” Arlecchino stopped herself from yelling at Furina. Taking a deep breath before speaking calmly, “Why do you want to leave?”
“I just think.., this way of life isn’t right for me..” Furina explained.
“How could you say that?” Arlecchino asked, finding the idea absurd at first.
“Oh, come on. You know I am not cut out for this way of life.” Furina answered honestly.
It was true, unlike Arlecchino, Furina hadn’t done any of the things Arlecchino had. Arlecchino had spied, murdered people, and done other evil mafia stuff that Furina refuses to even think about. With Arlecchino having done those things before she even turned eighteen. Meanwhile, Furina just turned eighteen and hasn’t done anything criminal for the mafia. The worst thing she has done is put the trash in the recycling bin. This does come up in the future.
“I am just trying to save everyone the burden.” Furina explained to Arlecchino.
“Furina.” Arlecchino stopped her right then and there.
Arlecchino rose from her office chair. Walking over past her desk to stand right in front of Furina. Both of them looked at each other before Arlecchino grabbed Furina’s shoulder. Pulling Furina into a deep hug. Furina froze at first before slowly embracing her back, wrapping her arms around Arlecchino’s waist.
“Furina. You will never be a burden to me or anyone else. Do you understand?” Arlecchino promised her. Holding Furina in her hug.
“Okay..” Furina acknowledged quietly.
“Is that clear?” Arlecchino tightened her hug around Furina. Burying Furina’s face against her body.
“Yes yes!” Furina quickly answered her. “I get it!”
Once Arlecchino was satisfied that Furina understood that she wasn’t a burden, she loosened her hug around Furina, pulling back enough so she could look down at Furina. Furina was Arlecchino’s favorite sibling. Unlike her other siblings (harbinger), whom Arlecchino disliked.
“So, do you still think you are not a part of the family?” Arlecchino asked her.
“Look, I don’t want to leave the ‘family’ family, just not be a part of the illegal stuff, you know.” Furina clarified. “I still want to be your sister and stuff.”
“I understand, Furina.” Arlecchino gently headpats Furina’s hair.
“How mad do you think mom is going to be..?” Furina asked her.
“The Tsaritsa won’t be pleased, Furina.” Arlecchino answered, using their mother’s formal title.
“You think she is going to.., you know..?” Furina suggested vaguely.
“Furina, listen.” Arlecchino knelt down so they were at eye level. “You are her daughter. She is going to be mad, but she won’t kill you.” Arlecchino firmly reassured Furina.
“Can we talk to her about this together?” Furina asked her for support.
“Of course,” Arlecchino answered as she stood back up. “But my presence is not going to make mother less upset.”
“I thought so.” Furina chuckles to herself. “But having you there will make talking to her easier.”
Arlecchino then reaches out her hand. “Let’s go speak with her, Furina.” Arlecchino smiles at her. Something she rarely does.
“Thank you, Arlecchino.” Furina takes her hand. Smiling back as well.
Arlecchino and Furina leave the office to go speak with their mother. The conversation was most likely going to be a rough one, but with Arlecchino by her side. Furina will most likely be able to handle it.
A Few Months Later
Furina was officially out of the mafia. Much against her mother's wishes. She managed to land a background role in one of Fontaine’s famous threathers. To make the commute to the theater easier, Furina got an apartment nearby. Of course, Arlecchino offered to get her a car, but Furina urged her that it was unnecessary. Plus, Furina didn’t know how to drive anyway.
In her new abode, Furina was getting ready for her first day as an actor in her bathroom. Brushing her teeth while wearing her usual daily outfit, like the one she has in-game. When she gets a phone call. Furina sets down her toothbrush, and she takes out her phone to see who it was. It was Arlecchino, bringing a smile to her face as she answered the call
“Hey sis, how are you?” Furina asked happily.
“Did you see the amount you have on your account?” Arlecchino asked her straightway. “I just deposited a small amount of money for you to live on. Let me know if you need any more.”
Furina lets out a sigh. “Sister.., you gave me a million dollars.” She mumbles out.
“Ah, you are right. Let me add a few more million just to be safe.” Arlecchino responded back.
“No no no, that is plenty enough!” Furina quickly stops her from giving any more money. “Thank you still for the support.”
“I see, that is good.” Arlecchino then asked her, “So, how is your acting ‘career’ going?”
“Oh, I start today.” Furina explains. “It is a background role, but you've got to start somewhere.”
“So I heard.” Arlecchino commented, as if she already knew that.
“You didn’t threaten the director or anything, right?” Furina asked her, half joking.
There is a brief pause before Arlecchino asks her, “Do you want me to be honest or lie?”
“Arlecchino!” Furina yells at her.
“Relax, Furina. I was merely joking.” Arlecchino chuckles on the line before clarifying, “I actually didn’t have to do anything. You got that all on your own.”
“Is that actually true?” Furina, asking for reassurance.
“Oh, trust me, Furina. If did pull some strings, you would be doing something far more important than just being a background character.” Arlecchino reassured her.
“Fair enough.”
“Anyways, I must go. I have to take care of business.” Arlecchino says goodbye. “Stay safe. Let me know if you encounter any issues.”
“Don’t worry, I will! Talk with you later!” Furina ends the call.
Furina sets her phone down as she looks at herself in the mirror. Making sure she looked perfect for her first day as an actor. Thankfully, she was doing something she actually wanted instead of doing evil mafia stuff where she didn’t have to hurt people.
“A new, fresh start. I can’t wait to begin my career as an actor! Hopefully nothing bad happens!” Furina smiled optimistically.
Meanwhile…
In the Fontaine’s Maison Gardiennage headquarters, Fontaine’s famous executor, Clorinde, was working in her office. Going over in the coming reports about the gangs and organized criminals, when she heard a knock on her office door.
“Come in.” Clorinde responded.
Chevreuse enters her office. “Apologies for the distribution, but there is a development on the Fatui family I must tell you about.”
Chevreuse was a part of Fontaine’s Special Security and Surveillance Patrol. She closed the door behind her before walking to Clorinde’s desk, standing in front of it.
“Ma’am, we believe the Fatui’s youngest daughter is doing some kind of undercover operation,” Chevreuse explains to Clorinde.
Clorinde raises an eyebrow. “What kind of undercover operation?”
“Well, she is pretending to be an actor.” Chevreuse stated.
“An actor. Why is she pretending to be an actor?” Clorinde wondered.
“Yes. I am not sure why. It must be a secret operation.” Chevreuse guessed.
“Very well then, we shall make plans to apprehend her.” Clorinde declared, “We need to know what the Fatui is doing in Fontaine’s theatrical scene.”
“You want me to put out a warrant for her?” Chevreuse asked, ready to send out the report.
“No..” Clorinded isagreed as she shook her head, “This one will be off the books.”
“Ah, very well.” Chevreuse winked at her. Understanding what they are going to do next. “I will get the team ready.”
Oh no. It seems the local Fontaine law enforcement has plans on taking Furina into custody! Found out what happens in the next chapter. Well, Furina obviously gets kidnapped when you see the tags, but find out how.
