Work Text:

Fennekin scrolled on her phone at her bed, her ears sprung up when she heard the doorbell ring. “Oh, must be them.” She got up and walked out of her room to go answer the door, “..Or it’s just my mom.” She opened the door, Mudkip was standing alone there. “Oh hey Mudkip, where’s Chespin?” “He got hit with a random sickness, so I walked here. Alone.”

“Oh, well. I mean we can still hang out without him right?” “Yeah.” She gestured to Mudkip to come inside and guided him to her room. “Honestly such a shame, I wanted the three of us to hang out for a little while.” “Yeah, well. That’s how it is.” She entered her room, and sat on the floor. Mudkip stood there awkwardly. “So.. uh.” “Oh yeah, um.. Wanna draw?”

Mudkip tilted his head, “Oh I really cannot draw.” “Cmon.. it’ll be fun. We could try it out then we won’t do it again!” Mudkip sighed, choosing to sit down on the floor. Fennekin got up to grab some blank sheets of papers and two hardcover books. “Are we drawing based off the books?” Mudkip asked, “Huh? Oh, if you want. I just think it’d be easier to draw on a flat surface better.

“Oh yeah, right.” Fennekin gave a book and paper to Mudkip, and tossed the book and blank paper on her bed, she grabbed two pencils for the both of them. She laid down on her stomach with her feet up. “So, when was the last time you drew something?” “.. Maybe like. When it mattered. Fourth grade.” “Hm.. so 2 years then?” “You’d be correct. Do you. Like drawing?” “Yeah I do, but I don’t do it often.”

“I see.” The room stayed silent as an occasional interruption from Fennekin’s pencil moving against the paper. “You have to move your pencil to draw, Mudkip.” “What should my topic be?” “Anything, anything you want really. Maybe something you want.” “..And what do you want?” “Hm, maybe not being civilized. I don't know, I’m not really cut out for this sort of thing. Civilized I mean. I do poorly in school and my social life is now in the ruins more than ever. Sorry just rambling.” “No, it's fine. I’m used to it.” Mudkip began drawing something Fennekin looked down on him where he was sitting. “Are you left handed?” “Yeah.” “That’s cool, I used to be left-handed too.” She said, “.. Teachers tried to fix me in 2nd grade, they used to hit my hand with a ruler or a slight smack with a book. Then they stopped one day. Never got an apology, they just gave up.”

“Yeah, they used to do that to me too, except I started writing with my right hand because I was getting angry at them bothering me about it. I already had issues at school, but that just felt like another issue that wasn’t even that important. I feel like it's some sort of analogy for the help I received in school, well. Their definition of ‘help’ so dumb.” “I get that,” The room went silent again as Mudkip put the pencil down. “Are you done drawing?” “Yeah.” “Well okay, just give me a second to finish up.” She finished up and sat up on the bed. “Can I see?” “I’m really bad at drawing.” “Cmon.. I’ll show you mine!” Mudkip hesitantly showed her the drawing.

“..Pfft. Oh my god.” “I told you. I never draw.” “Can I keep it?” Mudkip stared at her blankly. “Why would you want to keep this?” “”It’s really cute.” “.. It's. Cute?” Fennekin nodded in response. “Yeah, I really like it.” “..Then. can I. see yours?” “Oh yeah, I forgot to do that. Here.” She handed it to Mudkip.

He stared at it, “Is this your room?” “Yep, I really like drawing backgrounds, or.. I don’t know. I was gonna draw characters from this recent movie I saw but, I don't really prefer drawing characters instead of backgrounds. Sorry, rambling again.” “It’s fine, this looks really good. You draw very quickly.” “Thank you. Also, sorry for laughing at your wishiwashis. I like them.” “.. Thanks.”

Fennekin smiled at him, Mudkip blushed faintly. “Um. Since you wanna. Keep mine, can I keep yours?” “yeah sure, I don’t mind.” Fennekin got up and put Mudkip’s drawing on top of her desk before going to sit down on the bed again. “How long have you been here?” “..Like, in general or in your room?” “In my room I mean.” “Oh, Sorry I didn’t understand.” “Nah its fine.”

“Um, I came, right after I finished something up real quick. So an hour after classes ended.” “..So, 3:30..?” “Yeah, I think so. Why are you asking anyway?” “Oh, it's because it's 5 already.” I’ve been here 2 hours already? Mudkip thought, “Well, I live far away so maybe I came at 4 instead of 3:30.” “Oh yeah, that’d make more sense.”

“Mh, still. I’ve been here for an hour technically.” “Yeah, I mean we’ve just been talking right? Yknow, having like.. Conversations and then suddenly you  realize  30 minutes already passed.” “Yeah, I know what you're talking about.” Fennekin got up to go sit at her desk, Mudkip stared at her before getting up and sitting at her bed. “So, is there anything else you wanna do?”

“No, not really. I wish Chespin wasn’t sick.” “Oh, yeah that sucks. How’d he get sick anyways?” “Gave his coat to me, because I didn’t have one at all.” “Ohh, that makes sense. It's been really cold recently.” “Not really, only a little wind.” “Yeah but still, I wish winter could be over already, growing out my fur to stay warm only to still wear a jacket!”

“Well, I mean, your fur really isn’t that thick, I think.” Fennekin held out her arm. “You can feel it, I just kinda want to know if it’s thick or not really.” Mudkip blushed faintly, “.. Maybe ask your mom. She’d understand more.” “Oh okay.” She put her arm down and grabbed her phone, “What should I say to Chespin?” “What for?” “I just wanna say hi.” “Then say hi, or ask if he’s okay.”

“Oh yeah. I’ll do that.” She began texting Chespin, Mudkip fidgeted with his hands before getting up. “Um, I think I should go now.” Fennekin’s ears perked up. “Why?” “It's. It's getting dark outside and the buses usually go out of order at this time.” Fennekin tilted her head. “Why not stay here for tonight? My mom won’t mind unless I lock the door. OR are your parents too strict?” “I live alone,”

“So does that mean..” Mudkip looked around her room, he hesitated but said, “Sure. Do you just have an extra blanket lying around here?” “Oh you can sleep on my bed, I’ll sleep on the floor.” “Oh, no I’m not gonna take your bed.” “It’s fine the floor is comfy enough anyways.” “Then I’ll sleep on the floor.” “I mean can we just..” She eyed the bed. “Nevermind, I’ll get the extra blankets in my closet’.”

Mudkip sat on her bed and stared as she laid out the blankets and pillow. “There.” “Thank you,” “You're welcome, So is there anything else you’d like to do or do you just wanna sleep?” “Uh, is sleeping okay? I don’t wanna bore you or anything.” “Yeah it’s fine I don't mind.” She laid down on her bed, “I’ll just be on my phone for a bit.” Mudkip laid down on the makeshift bed, “...Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Mudkip.”
