The moon comes in different shapes and phases throughout the month. I am the moon. The moon is me. You see different versions of me, depending on who you are, how comfortable I am with you, and how much I trust you. Keep in mind that no version of me that you're seeing might be the true one. You never know if you're ever going to see my true self.
My name is Haniwa Savamura. For centuries, my clan, the Savamura clan, has been preying on humans, killing them, eating them, imprisoning them, and turning them into demons. Yes, demons. That's what they are. Human-looking creatures with slightly different features that devour humans as the main part of their diet. They can age for hundreds of years, with their looks barely changing. In my clan, they all multiply with each other, which is why, by now, almost everyone looks the same. Everyone has the same raven black hair that falls straight behind their back, the dark brown skin colour that makes them almost one with the dark nights, and those red, shiny eyes, that immediately scream danger and brutality. The only reason why they didn't get any diseases from years of incest is due to their strong demonic genetics, that make them immune to all kinds of diseases. The reason why they did this is so their blood remains pure and their offspring is purely from their kind. Which is why they despise me since I am not a full demon. They despised my mother since she was a human, and they cut almost all ties with my father since he broke the rules and married her, a human, while he was a demon. There aren't many cases like that, and it happens rarely that these result in offspring, especially hybrids. Hybrids are rare creatures. They happen when two creatures from different species multiply and have a child. But the chances of the child being a hybrid is low. This is why only Kufon, my twin brother, and I are hybrids, while our older brother, Matsuda, is a human. The clan hated Matsuda as much as they hated my mother, and they didn't hold back from showing their hatred. After my father died through suicide when I was 10, they locked my mother up and gave her food and water in amounts so small that she technically starved, but not enough for her to die. Among that, they also tortured her, beating her with iron chains, burning her skin with hot metal sticks, and stabbing her with knives. In the end, she didn't survive the torture and died. When my brother Matsuda rebelled against them, they decided to banish him from the village. I was furious when they did this, and I spoke up against them, which was probably a bad idea, since I ended up being banished as well. Well, me and Matsuda ended up walking away to a forest close to a village, on the mountains. Since then, we have lived in a hut, which is pretty chill actually, it has a good roof, a fireplace, and two rooms. We don't speak much with people from the village. All we do is trading wood for other recourses and then go back. It was a nice and calm atmosphere, and genuinely, we were both happy, although I would think about Kufon, my twin brother, every single day. I would worry about him. Since the clan believe that he is fully a demon, due to both of his eyes being red, unlike me, who has one eye red and the other hazel, they kept him and refused to let him go with us. So we had no chance other than leaving him behind. I think Matsuda feels guilty for leaving Kufon behind. Although he couldn't have done anything, he still blames himself constantly. It's honestly sad to see because I tried to convince him that it was not his fault, but he keeps blaming himself no matter how much I try to convince him otherwise. It's been around 5 years since we're living in that hut. Matsuda turned 21 recently, I still sometimes wonder how he beared the responsibility of taking care of me and himself since he was 16, almost my age. I honestly always looked up to him. He is like a role model to me, and I wish I could be more like him. Also, he always cared for me, protected me, and has always been there for me. I wonder if having such a protective sibling... ... could ever be a problem?
