Freedom and Friction - a Pride and Prejudice AU.

The year is 1821 and one of the most wealthy, attractive and talked-about bachelors of Japan purchases Naka Park; a large vacation manor in the outskirts of Iwatobi. With him he brings his close childhood friend, Rin Matsuoka, whose presence repels and annoys Haruka Nanase, the son of a once-wealthy fisherman. From the beginning, the pair does not get along, but all through their great many misunderstandings and mishaps, a certain intrigue begins to blossom.

We have talked before about an AU like this, but nothing too serious. Then tumblr@fruit-and-smoke jumped into my ask box last year and made the idea a bit more serious in my head. I really wanted to give it a go, despite believing I couldn’t do it justice.

I’ve had the idea of writing a fic for your (Dandelion’s) birthday for literal years, and had been hooked on the idea of a KPop AU, especially after you made that art piece a few years back, but THIS- this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I reached out to Fruit and they helped me out greatly with all of the details, the title, the best way to go about it, and kept me motivated to stick to my word and get it done rather than leave the idea to collect dust.

Note: They will all take on the last name "Nanase", as they are one family. Goro and Miho will therefore both be referred to by others as "Nanase-san" or their first name + "-san" for distinction. Goro refers to Miho affectionately as "Miho-chan". The younger brothers will be referred to mostly by their first names, though also often as their first name + "-chan". Like in canon, Haruka may be referred to as "Haru(ka)-chan" by others, either earnestly or as a means to tease him - he dislikes it either way.

Note: Kaede will take on the last name "Yamazaki", as he will be Sousuke's younger brother. Sousuke will be referred to as "Yamazaki-sama", and Kaede as "Yamazaki-san" (due to being younger and not in any leadership or management role in the family business).
Rin will mostly be referred to as "Matsuoka-sama". However, when spoken to by Haru, Haru will specifically either use "-san" or no honorifics, since he doesn't care much for them, though this is something Rin will take offense for and see as disrespectful. The rest of the Nanase family will also drop the "-sama" when talking about him after they lose respect for him (they're petty, yes), but most will keep it when speaking directly to him or to others.
