The Great Kim Chase

Summary:

Jake and Kitae have a rap battle (which ends in Kitae chasing Jake with an axe all across Seoul (and then Goo, Gun and Daniel join the chase too)).

Notes:

The ideas were purely mine and I take credit for those. The only thing that Ai (Gemini) takes credits are for the words.

Also, in this fic, Kitae arrives to Seoul before the fall of Charles Choi.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The neon-lit basement of a Big Deal-owned club was packed to the rafters. On one side, the Mexican Cartel stood in stunned silence. On the other, Big Deal stood with their hands over their hearts, looking like they were attending a funeral in advance.

In the center of the ring stood Jake Kim, holding a battered microphone like a holy relic. Opposite him was Kitae Kim, looking supremely overconfident, arms crossed, waiting to hear what his "soft" little brother could possibly say.

Jake took a deep breath. He didn't use a beat—he didn't need one. He channeled every ounce of his anger into a rhythmic, soul-crushing flow.

"You call yourself a King, but you're just a clown in a crown,

Conquered Seoul? Bro, you couldn't even keep the coffee down.

You're the 'Dark Side' of Dad? Nah, you're just the part he forgot,

A cartel leader whose cries squeak like a toddler on a cot!"

The crowd gasped. Kitae’s smile faltered. Jake stepped closer, his voice rising.

"You hunt your own family because you're scared of the name,

But even with that axe, you’ve got zero 'Romantic' game.

You thought I was sweet,

But I'm the one who's roasting you in the middle of the street!"

Jake ended the verse, dropping the mic and staring Kitae dead in the eyes.

The silence that followed was absolute. The Mexican Cartel members were looking at the floor, their eyes wide. They had seen Kitae survive assassinations, but they had never seen him get emotionally dismantled by a teenager in a denim jacket. One lieutenant whispered, "Dios mio... he actually mentioned their father."

Sinu Han looked at Jerry, his face pale. "Jerry... that was the greatest rap I've ever heard. It’s also the last thing Jake will ever say."

"Boss was a good man," Jerry whispered back, already closing his eyes in prayer. "He lived a life of conviction. Brief, but romantic."

"Should we start the GoFundMe for the casket now?" Lineman asked, his lip trembling. "Or wait until the body is found?"

Kitae didn't move for three seconds. Then, his face began to contort. A tick mark appeared, and it was throbbing so hard it looked like a second heart. He didn't reach for a microphone. He reached into his coat and pulled out his signature axe, the blade gleaming under the disco ball.

"JAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!" Kitae’s roar shattered a beer glass on the far side of the room.

"I REGRET NOTHING!" Jake screamed, his voice cracking as he performed a 180-degree turn and vaulted over the DJ booth.

The club turned into a scene of pure chaos. Jake was sprinting toward the fire exit, his feet moving so fast they were a blur. Kitae was right behind him, swinging the axe with such fury that he was accidentally carving chunks out of the concrete pillars.

"HE'S GOT THE AXE!" Brad Lee yelled, diving under a table. "JAKE, RUN TO THE POLICE STATION! RUN TO ANOTHER COUNTRY!"

"SORRY JAKE!" Jason Yoon shouted as Jake ran past him. "I'D HELP, BUT I HAVE A DENTIST APPOINTMENT IN THREE YEARS AND I CAN'T BE DEAD FOR IT!"

Jake burst out of the club and onto the street, his lungs burning. "IT WAS JUST A RYHME, KITAE! ARTISTIC EXPRESSION! FREEDOM OF SPEECH!"

"I'LL SHOW YOU ARTISTIC EXPRESSION!" Kitae screamed, as he gained speed. "I'M GOING TO TURN YOU INTO A SUBTITLE!"

As the two brothers vanished into the city skyline—one screaming for mercy and the other swinging a heavy weapon—the Mexican Cartel and Big Deal stood on the sidewalk together.

"Your boss is very fast," a Cartel member noted, looking impressed.

"Our boss is very dead," Jerry replied solemnly, as he began to lead the crew in a mournful rendition of the Big Deal anthem.

The high-end aesthetic of the "Morning Star Cafe" was defined by soft jazz, expensive marble tables, and the aggressive bickering of two men who looked like they stepped off a fashion runway.

Gun Park was meticulously cutting into a $40 souffle pancake, while Goo Kim was halfway through a triple-decker strawberry cream croissant.

"I’m telling you, Gun," Goo mumbled, cream on his nose. "If you’d just invest in the cryptocurrency I told you about, we wouldn’t have to work for Chairman Choi anymore. We could just—"

"I’m not putting money into 'Goo-Coin,' Goo. Shut up and eat your—"

CRASH.

The front window of the cafe didn't just break; it exploded.

"HELP! HE’S GOT AN AXE! HE’S LEGITIMATELY INSANE!" Jake Kim screamed, his sneakers skidding on the marble floor as he vaulted directly over Gun and Goo’s table.

An eye-blink later, a shadow loomed over the two geniuses. Kitae Kim landed squarely in the center of their table. The souffle pancake was flattened instantly. The strawberry croissant was crushed into a pink smear. Lattes splashed onto Gun’s bespoke suit and Goo’s freshly styled hair.

"JAKE!" Kitae roared, not even glancing at the two men beneath his feet as he launched himself off the wreckage, axe raised high, pursuing his brother out through the back exit.

Gun and Goo: "..."

Silence held for exactly three seconds.

Goo Kim sat on the floor, a piece of strawberry dripping from his glasses. His hand was still shaped like he was holding a fork. Slowly, he looked at the ruins of his "peaceful evening." His eye began to twitch.

"Do you have any idea..." Goo started, his voice a low, terrifying hiss. He reached for his umbrella—which was actually a disguised weapon —and drew a shimmering, razor-sharp katana.

"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH MONEY I PAID ON THAT CROISSANT?!" Goo stood up, his aura turning into a jagged, golden flame of pure rage.

"THAT WAS A LIMITED EDITION PASTRY! AND COFFEE COSTS MORE THAN A SECOND-HAND CAR THESE DAYS!" Goo screamed, charging toward the back exit.

"GET BACK HERE, YOU FAMILY-ISSUE FREAKS! I’M CHARGING YOU INTEREST IN BLOOD!"

Gun Park remained on the floor for a moment, looking at a large coffee stain spreading across his white dress shirt. He blinked, watching Goo disappear into the street like a blonde whirlwind of vengeance.

Gun slowly stood up and adjusted his glasses. He walked over to the trembling cashier, who was hiding behind a bag of coffee beans.

"Don't worry," Gun said, his voice eerily calm as he tapped a black credit card on the counter. "Charge it all to this. The food, the window, the furniture. Everything."

"T-thank you, sir!" the cashier stammered.

After paying, Gun tucked his card back into his wallet.

A dark, terrifyingly wide grin spread across his face, and his eyes turned completely black. The "Grandmaster" was feeling the excitement.

"Goo is actually trying to kill someone today," Gun whispered to himself, his knuckles cracking with the sound of gunfire.

"A Cartel King, a Big Deal Leader, and a Pissed-Off Swordmaster... This is the best Friday I've had in years!"

With a burst of speed that shattered the floor tiles he was standing on, Gun sprinted after the chaos, laughing like a maniac as he joined the most expensive—and deadliest—game of tag in Seoul's history.

The streets of Seoul had officially descended into a fever dream.

Daniel Park was standing outside a convenience store with the Allied crew—Vasco, Zack Lee, and Hudson Ahn—sharing some ice cream and discussing their next move. It was supposed to be a normal Saturday.

"And that's why we should—" Daniel started, but his sentence was cut short by a sonic boom of footsteps.

Jake Kim blurred past them, his face a mask of pure, unadulterated terror. "DANIEL! CALL THE POLICE! CALL THE MILITARY! CALL ANYBODY!" Jake screamed, not even slowing down as he vaulted over a parked car.

"Jake? What’s going—" Daniel’s eyes went wide.

Kitae Kim thundered past next, the air whistling as he swung his axe at Jake’s disappearing heels. The legendary Cartel leader looked like he was ready to dismantle the entire city block.

"Is that... an axe?" Vasco asked, his ice cream melting onto his hand.

Then came Goo Kim. He was running with the terrifying, silent grace of a professional killer, his katana held low. His face was a terrifying void of rage. He didn't even see Daniel, his eyes were locked on the back of Kitae’s head, calculating exactly how many "croissant-sized" pieces he was going to cut him into.

"And Goo?!" Zack stammered. "Why is he even chasing them?!"

Finally, the grand finale arrived. Gun Park came sprinting down the sidewalk, his white suit jacket fluttering behind him like a cape. He was laughing—a loud, booming, melodic sound that chilled the blood of everyone within a three-block radius.

"THIS IS IT! THE ULTIMATE ROMANTIC CARNAGE!" Gun roared.

He noticed Daniel standing there. Without breaking stride, Gun’s hand shot out like a viper, grabbing the back of Daniel’s hoodie.

"H-H-Hyung?!" Daniel yelped as he was suddenly yanked off his feet, his legs kicking the air.

"Perfect timing, Daniel!" Gun laughed, his eyes glowing with a dark, manic intensity.

"You want to learn about 'The Stage'? You want to see true high-level combat? Today, you get a front-row seat to the end of the world! We’re going to join the fray!"

"WAIT! NO! HYUNG, PLEASE!" Daniel began to thrash like a hooked fish, his face turning paper-white.

"I don't want to see 'The Stage'! I want to go home! I have homework! I'm allergic to axes and swords! LET ME GOOOO!"

Gun ignored him, dragging Daniel along like a human suitcase.

"Stop complaining! If you survive this, you might actually become a man! Hahaha!"

The Allied crew stood in a frozen line, watching their leader disappear into the distance, still dangling from Gun's hand and screaming for his life.

"Should we... should we do something?" Hudson asked, his hand twitching toward his fist.

Vasco looked at the trail of shattered pavement and the faint sound of an axe hitting a lamp post in the distance. He slowly took off his hat and placed it over his heart.

"We must pray," Vasco said solemnly. "Daniel has gone to the Great Training Hall in the sky."

"He was a good leader," Zack added, bowing his head. "A bit short, but good. I'll make sure to use his limited edition sneakers."

The construction site was a nightmare of half-poured concrete and rusted steel beams. Jake Kim was backed against a massive crane, his hands raised in a desperate "time-out" gesture. Kitae Kim stood five feet away, his axe buried halfway into a wooden crate. Goo Kim had just arrived, his katana leveled at Kitae’s throat, his eyes gleaming with the fury of a thousand wasted lattes.

"Move, kid," Goo hissed at Jake, his voice trembling with rage.

"I’m going to show this 'King' that in Seoul, we charge a 500% interest rate on property damage and ruined breakfast."

"I don't care who you are, blonde," Kitae growled, finally noticing the sword-wielding maniac.

"You're standing between me and my brother's head."

The tension was a physical weight. The air was thick with the scent of ozone and impending violence. And then, from the top of a nearby pile of gravel, a sound broke the silence.

"STRIKE!"

Gun Park appeared at the peak of the hill, his silhouette framed by the moon. He was holding Daniel Park by the back of his hoodie and the waistband of his jeans, swinging him back and forth like a heavy pendulum.

"H-HYUNG! NO! DON'T DO IT! I'M NOT AN OBJECT!" Daniel shrieked, his arms flailing wildly. "I'M A PERSON! I HAVE RIGHTS! I HAVE—"

"You have potential, Daniel!" Gun roared, his eyes glowing like embers. "Now, go fetch me a good fight!"

With a grunt of pure, monstrous power, Gun performed a perfect Olympic-style hammer throw. He spun Daniel once, twice, and then launched him.

Daniel became a human projectile. He flew through the air in a perfect, horizontal line, screaming a high-pitched "AHHHHH!" that echoed off the surrounding skyscrapers.

CRASH.

Daniel didn't just land; he bowled. He struck the center of the standoff with the force of a small meteorite. He collided chest-first with Jake, who flew backward into Kitae, whose heavy axe-swing was deflected into Goo’s sword.

The result was a tangled heap of legendary fighters.

Jake was pinned under Daniel. Kitae was searching for his axe. And Daniel was face-down in the dirt, groaning in a pitch only audible to bats.

"Perfect," Gun said, landing gracefully in the center of the mess a second later. He stood over them, his black eyes scanning the pile of "Kings" and "Geniuses." He looked like a kid on Christmas morning.

"Now," Gun said, cracking his neck with a sound like snapping dry wood. "Everyone is here. The King, the Sword, the Heir, and the Student."

Goo crawled out from under Kitae, his glasses cracked but his rage redoubled. He pointed his sword at Gun. "YOU! YOU RUINED MY SUIT! AND YOU THREW THE BRAT AT ME!"

Kitae stood up, kicking a piece of rubble away. He looked at Gun, then at Goo, then at the shivering Daniel. A dark, savage grin finally spread across his face. "So this is Seoul's 'Greatest Power'? A bunch of lunatics and a flying middle-schooler?"

Jake, still pinned under a dazed Daniel, looked up at the three monsters surrounding them. He slowly closed his eyes, accepting hus fate.

"Just kill me," Jake whispered. "I don't want to see what happens next"

The construction site turned into a landscape of pure, high-level insanity.

Gun Park moved first, his fist whistling through the air with the weight of a freight train. Kitae Kim didn't flinch, he caught Gun’s punch with his bare hand, the shockwave shattering the concrete beneath their feet. Meanwhile, Goo Kim was a blur of steel, his katana flashing as he attempted to prune Kitae’s limbs while simultaneously trying to kick Gun in the ribs.

"This is it!" Gun laughed, his UI eyes burning with a dark radiance. "The Mexican King, the Weapon Genius, and me! A three-way dance to the death!"

"Shut up, you suit-wearing freak!" Goo screamed, parrying a savage axe-swing from Kitae. "I’m still mad at you for throwinh that brat at me!"

Kitae roared, his savage, wild fighting style clashing against Gun's perfection and Goo’s precision. The ground groaned. Steel beams were bent like pipe cleaners. It was a hurricane of "The Stage," and at the center of it, the air was literally vibrating with murderous intent.

On the sidelines, Jake Kim and Daniel Park had been "yeeted" into a pile of empty cement bags. They sat up simultaneously, shaking dust from their hair. They looked at the three monsters in the center—who were currently destroying a crane just by being near it—and then they looked at each other.

There were no words needed. It was a moment of pure, cross-crew synchronization as they nod at each other.

Jake pointed toward the darkened alleyway. Daniel gave a frantic thumbs-up. Staying low to the ground, moving with the stealth of two very terrified ninjas, they began to crawl away. Step by step, they distanced themselves from the roar of the Monsters.

They reached the edge of the construction site. Freedom was five feet away.

"Almost... there..." Daniel whispered, a bead of sweat dripping off his nose.

Suddenly, the sounds of combat stopped. The silence was more terrifying than the screaming.

"And where," Gun’s voice echoed, cold and sharp as a razor, "do you two think you're going?"

Jake and Daniel froze mid-stride. They looked like two thieves caught with their hands in the cookie jar—if the cookies were made of dynamite. They slowly turned their heads.

Gun, Goo, and Kitae were standing in a perfect triangle, all three of them covered in dust and blood, but all three of them staring directly at the escapees.

"We haven't finished the lesson, Daniel," Gun said, his grin widening into something demonic.

"And I still haven't gotten my 'reimbursement' from the younger brother," Goo added, his katana gleaming.

"Jake," Kitae growled, his axe resting on his shoulder. "You didn't think I'd let you leave without a proper 'goodbye,' did you?"

The three monsters lunged at once.

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!" Jake and Daniel grabbed each other, clutching their jackets in a state of shared, soul-crushing terror. Their screams reached a frequency that could shatter diamonds as they realized the "Three-Way Dance" had just become a "Five-Way Slaughter."

Half a mile away, a strange sight was unfolding.

The Mexican Cartel and Big Deal had stopped whatever they were doing. They were now standing in a circle with the Allied crew, who had just caught up.

Vasco was explaining the situation to a confused Mexican lieutenant. "So, you see... Gun took our leader. And your leader is chasing our other friend. And the blonde man is angry about stuff."

"It is a mess," the Cartel lieutenant sighed, crossing his arms. "In Mexico, we just use guns. This... this is complicated."

Suddenly, the wind carried a sound—a twin-voiced, high-pitched scream of absolute, unadulterated fear.

“HELP US! WE’RE TOO YOUNG TO BE ROMANTIC TRAGEDIES!”

Jerry Kwon dropped to his knees, clasping his hands in prayer. "That was the Boss. He’s reached the 'End of the Road.'"

Vasco and Zack joined him, bowing their heads.

"Daniel is with him," Zack whispered. "May they find peace in the afterlife."

The Cartel members, moved by the sheer volume of the screams, took off their hats in respect.

For the first time in history, two of one of the most powerful crews in Seoul and one of the most powerful group of Mexico stood together in a moment of silent, terrified mourning for two leaders who were currently being chased by the three scariest men on the planet.

"Should we go help?" Hudson asked tentatively.

Everyone—Big Deal, Allied, and the Cartel—looked at the horizon where explosions were literally lighting up the sky.

"No," Sinu Han said, wiping a tear. "Let's just remember them as they were: running very, very fast. And terrified."

The Seoul Central Police Station had never seen a night like this. The precinct was on high alert, but even the bravest officers were refusing to go near Cell Block 4. Inside, the very air seemed to be vibrating with enough concentrated "Stage" energy to blow the roof off the building.

The five of them were crammed into a single high-security cell.

Gun Park was currently shirtless, hanging upside down from the top bunk bed by his toes. He was using the iron bars of the cell door to do one-handed pull-ups, the metal groaning and bending under his grip.

"Look at the structural integrity of these bars, Daniel!" Gun barked, his eyes glowing in the dim light. "If you channel your weight into your pivot foot, you can use the recoil of the steel to increase your striking speed by 15%! Now, get up here and give me two hundred!"

Daniel Park and Jake Kim didn't move. They were huddled together in the far corner of the cell, literally vibrating with fear. They were holding onto each other like two shipwreck survivors clutching a single life raft.

"Jake," Daniel whispered, his face a ghostly shade of white. "If we stay perfectly still... maybe they’ll forget we exist."

"I’ve tried that, Daniel," Jake whimpered, his eyes locked on Kitae’s axe, which was currently sitting in the evidence locker down the hall. "It doesn't work. The 'Monsters' can smell fear. It’s like a GPS for them."

In the center of the cell, the real nightmare was unfolding. Kitae Kim and Goo Kim were standing chest-to-chest, the space between them sparking with murderous intent.

"I told you, you blonde brat," Kitae growled, his neck veins bulging. "If you hadn't tried to 'interest' me with that toothpick of yours, I would’ve caught Jake and been halfway back to Mexico by now!"

"Toothpick?!" Goo shrieked, waving a plastic spoon he had sharpened into a shiv during the ride over. "This 'toothpick' almost turned your designer coat into a poncho! And you still haven't paid for my croissant! That was a seasonal special, you prehistoric caveman!"

Gun let out a sharp, manic laugh from the ceiling, dropping down to land perfectly on his feet between them.

"He’s right, Kitae!" Gun egged him on, his grin widening. "In Seoul, the food is sacred. Goo’s pride is worth at least three of your cartel's territories. Are you really going to let a guy with a plastic spoon talk to a King like that? Where's the 'Romanticism'?"

"SHUT UP, GUN!" Goo and Kitae screamed in unison, turning their collective fury toward the Nurture Genius.

"You’re the reason we’re even in here!" Goo yelled, poking Gun in the chest with his plastic shiv. "You and your 'Human Bowling' hobby!"

"I should have broken your ribs when I had the chance, you bastard!" Kitae roared, slamming a fist into the stone wall, creating a massive crater.

Gun just threw his head back and laughed, the sound echoing through the entire station. "Hahaha! Yes! That's the spirit! Scold me more! Let that rage build! It makes the muscles tighter, the strikes faster! Come on! Show me the power of a King and a Genius!"

"HE'S TOTALLY INSANE!" Jake sobbed quietly, digging his fingernails into Daniel's shoulder.

"I want my mom..." Daniel echoed, closing his eyes as the cell began to shake from the sheer pressure of the three monsters preparing to restart their brawl.

Suddenly, a small, terrified police officer tapped on the bars with a wooden baton. "U-um... excuse me? Your lawyers are here. And... some people called 'Big Deal' and 'Allied' are outside with a 'Free Jake' and a 'Free Daniel' banner?"

The three monsters stopped. Gun looked at the door, then back at the terrified boys in the corner.

"Really?" Gun sighed, sounding genuinely disappointed. "Right when it was getting good."

Jake and Daniel didn't wait. They scrambled to their feet, bolted past the three men, and practically threw themselves at the cell door, begging the officer to let them out before the 'training session' resumed.

The heavy steel doors of the Seoul Central Police Station creaked open, and the five 'prisoners' stepped out into the night air.

Gun led the pack, looking as refreshed as if he’d just left a spa. Behind him, Kitae and Goo were still shoulder-checking each other, muttering threats about future medical bills. Bringing up the rear were Jake and Daniel, who looked like they had aged forty years in a single night, their eyes hollow and their spirits broken.

They expected a battleground. They expected a siege. Instead, they were hit by the smell of marinated galbi, charcoal smoke, and the sound of laughter.

In the middle of the police parking lot, a massive, multi-national barbecue was in full swing.

Three worlds had collided in the most unexpected way.

The Mexican Cartel had backed their black SUVs into a circle, using the tailgates as tables. They were teaching Vasco how to make authentic salsa, while Vasco was showing them how to do 'heroic' push-ups.

Jerry Kwon was manning a massive grill, flipping steaks with a spatula that looked tiny in his hands. He was currently sharing a beer with a scarred Cartel lieutenant who was wearing a 'Big Deal' bandana as a napkin.

Sinu Han and Luah Im were sitting on a cooler, sharing a plate of kimchi with Zack Lee and Hudson Ahn, while Lineman was trying to explain about Korean tradition to a group of confused Spanish-speaking assassins who were nodding politely.

The five men at the station entrance stood in stunned silence.

"Is that..." Goo blinked, his cracked glasses sliding down his nose. "Is that my premium wagyu they're grilling? That was in my car's trunk!"

"JERRY!" Jake shouted, his voice cracking with relief. "You're... you're not fighting them?"

Jerry looked up, a piece of steak halfway to his mouth. "Oh, hey Boss! No, we realized that since everyone was waiting for you guys to get out, we might as well eat. The Cartel guys are actually pretty chill once you get past the tough personality. They have great taste in hot sauce."

Kitae looked at his hardened, international criminal organization. One of his top hitmen was currently wearing a paper "Allied" party hat and helping Daniel's crew set up a folding table.

Kitae let out a long, weary sigh. The "savage king" persona finally crumbled under the sheer absurdity of the night. "I chased you across the city with an axe," he muttered to Jake, "and my men are out here having a playdate."

"Well," Gun said, his eyes scanning the scene with amusement. He walked forward and snatched a skewer of meat right out of a Cartel member's hand. "A warrior needs his protein. And after that cell-block session, I’m starving."

Goo followed close behind, his eyes darting toward the dessert table. "If there isn't a replacement croissant in this parking lot, I'm restarting the war! But... is that grilled meat? I’ll take the grilled meat."

Jake and Daniel looked at each other one last time. The fear was still there, but the smell of grilled meat was stronger.

"Daniel," Jake said, patting his younger friend on the back. "We survived the axe. We survived the sword. We survived Gun’s 'bowling.' I think we earned a rib or two."

"I think we earned the whole cow, Jake," Daniel replied, finally letting out a shaky laugh.

As the sun began to peek over the Seoul skyline, "The Great Kim Chase" ended not with a bang, but with a burp. The Kings, the Geniuses, and the Crews all sat together on the pavement, bonded by the universal language of high-quality barbecue and the shared knowledge that they were all, in their own way, completely insane.

The End!

Notes:

So... How was it? :D
Ever since I saw the Kim brothers' interaction, I wanted something like this to happen!
