Work Text:
“Pink lilies?” Shinichi raised his head from his book, staring at the bouquet Rei was holding. “That’s right. It’s to commemorate our marriage's one year anniversary!” Rei smiled at the younger as he pushed the flowers towards him. Shinichi was in the middle of another re-read of a Sherlock Holmes’ book, but Rei suddenly interrupted him — appearing in front of Shinichi with a bunch of flowers. Shinichi didn’t take much time to process what Rei was talking about before he sighed lovingly and closed what he was reading.
Shinichi set the book aside, and spoke up as he raised his arms, “I’m half-surprised you worry about stuff like that.” Shinichi feigned exasperation, gesturing towards Rei. While he knew Rei to be quite the romanticist, to the point the man even called Japan his lover, Shinichi was almost shocked that Rei cared about things like anniversaries and gifts — not that it was out of place for Rei, Shinichi only thought Rei was not the type to be meticulous in love out of lack of time.
Happily, Rei took Shinichi’s invitation, playfully shoving himself onto his partner and engulfing the younger in a tight hug.
Rei took consideration of their height gap, as it, of course, made sense with the abnormal gap in their age; but Rei enjoyed taking in all of Shinichi’s much-smaller figure. It always made Rei feel better, as if Shinichi was truly only his. Being a whole head taller than Shinichi was one of Rei’s greatest feats, so he considered.
“Of course I do! As Shinichi-kun knows well, I’m quite the heavy man!” Rei enlightened him with a grin, “even in the next year, or even next decade, I’ll still celebrate our anniversary! Every little one. That’s how much I love you, Shinichi-kun.” Shinichi laughed dryly at Rei’s awkwardly romantic declaration.
It was not newfound that Shinichi found Rei’s absurdity a bit cringe, even from when Shinichi was still Conan; he noticed Rei could say embarrassing things as easily as breathing. Shinichi never thought to comment on it, though, when Shinichi was already this head over heels for Rei; there was no chance he could — rather, would — ever turn back.
“Wait, anniversary? It’s been that long since we got married?” Lightly gasped Shinichi as he wrapped his arms around Rei’s neck, tightening their hug.
Rei chuckled as he combed Shinichi’s hair, “mhm, it’s been that long. But we’ve been dating for longer, of course.” Rei gave Shinichi a small peck on the lips, then rested his head on his lover’s shoulder. The pair melted into each other’s presences, basking in the warmth of their hearts, blood that flowed in and out, happy to feel that they’re both alive.
With a face flushed, Shinichi lightly pulled away from Rei to inspect the gift he received. The flowers were nicely tucked, with gorgeous rows of a bright yet soft pink — glimmering with Rei’s love poured into them. Attached to the bouquet was a small letter. As Shinichi acknowledged earlier, of course, he was given pink lilies.
Pink lilies; he was particularly given lilium speciosum: in flower language, lilies that are pink symbolize a gentle love, femininity, admiration, and compassion. A bouquet with pink lilies is usually prepared for a woman you adore.
What first bothered Shinichi was that he was not a woman, but surely Rei didn’t take that into note. There’s no way Rei was cheating on him, and that Rei just gave Shinchi the bouquet that his other woman didn’t want or couldn't receive, because Rei would’ve most likely come to accept the existence of the pest to his life that is Akai Shuuichi before he even thought of replacing Shinichi for anyone else.
Another point was that the specific breed of flower Rei chose, lilium speciosum, usually came in white. While it wasn’t rare for those to be pink, the species was mostly associated with white. White lilies represented innocence and purity, pictured alongside the Virgin Mary. The latter didn’t contain much strength in that situation because Japan isn’t a Catholic country.
Nonetheless, Shinichi found the gesture interesting and sweet. Usually when planning flowers for your lover, especially a male, you’d think to choose a dozen red roses or some nice shining sunflowers; t’was not rare to choose pink lilies, but of course, with how long Shinichi knew what type of man Furuya Rei was, he figured this had to have had a deeper meaning.
Rei beamed as he sat down next to Shinichi on their couch, staring deeply at how his detective thoroughly inspected his gift. The pair sat in a short silence, then Shinichi turned to Rei with a grin as wide as ever.
“Does this have a deeper meaning? Why’d you choose pink lilies, specifically? Pink lilies usually represent femininity… So is this because you see me as the wife in this relationship? Or did you wish me to be a woman? If so, I can’t do that, I can only be a man… or, maybe, it’s because you think I’m cool?” Rei stifled a laugh as Shinichi went on, “since pink lilies also symbolize admiration! Wait, maybe I’m overanalyzing a little… but if it's something else — then give me a hint! But, I don’t want any spoilers, so be vague!” Shinichi excitedly blabbered, setting the bouquet aside to the table, his eyes sparkling as he shoved his hands on Rei’s lap.
Feeling a sense of success, Rei cupped Shinichi’s face and said with his joy seeping into his voice, “there’s no deeper meaning, I just wanted to give you these.” Rei wouldn’t trade anything for the look of surprise on Shinichi’s face.
Before Shinichi had the time to cut in, Rei continued, “pink lilies represent a gentle love. This, you know well, no? I merely wanted to show my desire to cherish you, Shinichi-kun. It also counts that the flowers reminded me of your body. The blood flowing within you makes your skin such a lovely pink.”
Shinichi wasn’t surprised that Rei thought of such embarrassing things. The two lovers stilled in silence for a bit. While Shinichi was still taking in the fact he overestimated such a silly thing, Rei reeled in the joy of his assumption that Shinichi would make a detective game out of everything being right.
Shinichi’s mouth opened wide, his face reddened once more. “Rei-san…”, his partner’s name, the only word Shinichi could mutter, the endorphins from happiness overflowing through his brain. Rei was only his second ever love, Shinichi had little to no experience nor exposure when it came to romantic love directed toward him — little gestures like so made it easy for Shinichi to dissolve into joy.
Once Rei let go of his face, again did Shinichi grab the bouquet, this time inspecting not the flowers — but the rest of the entire gift itself. Shinichi took off the attached letter and pocketed it, he figured he could stimulate his heart another time. He knew that the letter was most-likely going to be a love-poured one.
What Shinichi didn’t notice earlier, due to the main dish of flowers captivating his eye, was that the bouquet also contained chocolates wrapped around the flowers. The dark, mellow color of the chocolates blended well with the bright pink of the lilies. Rei knew well that Shinichi didn’t prefer things too sweet, dark chocolate was a definite choice.
The chocolates were dressed lovely, with truffle cup wrappers, and exuded a salivatingly delicious taste. Shinichi gently nabbed a piece, he took it out of the wrapper and felt it turn to mush in his mouth.
“Rei-san, did you make these? They’re so good!” Shinichi turned to Rei with sparkles in his eyes, still chewing the chocolate. The flavor had a familiar warmth that complemented the bitter taste.
Rei smiled as he slinged an arm on Shinichi’s shoulder, “Hehe, I’m glad Shinichi-kun was able to tell. I did make those, right after work, your smile makes it worth the time. I knew you would like them.” Rei smoothly boasted, of course he made those himself; store-bought was completely out of the window, for Rei wouldn't forgive any chocolate given to Shinichi that wasn’t made with his hands.
“...Rei-san, you’re still as egotistical as ever,” Shinichi said with his usual all-knowing smile as he maneuvered another piece of chocolate to his mouth. He leaned his head below Rei’s as he ate with delight.
After a few moments of staring at his lover appreciating his gift, Rei suddenly, yet softly, dropped himself onto Shinichi’s pretty face — beginning another kiss. Both of Shinichi’s eyelids shut as he gave in to the pressure of his embrace, letting Rei control both of their movements. Rei gently pushed Shinichi down, grabbing his lover’s waist with one hand and holding Shinichi’s hand with the other.
The older slid his tongue inside Shinichi’s mouth, feeling around and licking Shinichi’s incisors, canines, and molars as Rei took his own taste-test of the chocolate. Shinichi quietly whined, he felt as if he, too, was melting like the piece of chocolate that was sliding across their tongues. Shinichi felt as if Rei was devouring not the chocolate but him. He definitely was.
Rei used his tongue to steal the already melted chocolate, and pulled away from his lover to joyfully swallow it, licking his lips with a smile as he stared at Shinichi’s deflowered expression. Naught if not besotted was Rei when it came to Shinichi, especially when the younger was rendered to mere bits under Rei's touch.
“Wh— what’s with you suddenly…!” Shinichi slapped his hands to his mouth, unable to rise from the overstimulation.
“I wanted to taste the chocolate as well. I got impatient seeing you savor it,” cheeky, Rei responded with a chuckle, he reached out to tuck a tuft of Shinichi’s hair behind an ear to relish in his lover’s face.
“You’re just jealous of the chocolate because, instead of you, it was in my mouth,” Shinichi teased, sticking his tongue out. (Rei practically lived in Shinichi’s mouth.)
“Of course. A great deduction, as always, Mr. Great detective.” Rei leaned down to face Shinichi, kissing him once more.
