The sky fades to lilacs and soft, warm peachy hues as the sun sets, rainclouds gently releasing a soft downpour. The rain shimmers under the pale moonlight, creating a beautiful sight.

Well, it would be—if your mind weren’t preoccupied. Unlike the lovely surroundings, your day has not been so pleasant. The rain and the dimming glow of the sun only add to your dejected mood.

Walking in the light downpour of the evening, still in your cat cafe uniform, your boots are slightly damp with rainwater. Holding onto your umbrella, your thoughts linger on one thing:

“I got fired today. Now, I’m out of a job.”

“Guess I kinda feel like a loser or something,” you think to yourself.

You slow your walking as you approach a crosswalk. The red streetlight blinks rhythmically, signaling you to wait.

You sigh, thinking back to the cat cafe.

“I’m gonna miss those cats,” you mumble quietly, feeling a wave of sadness. The cats at the cafe get so emotionally attached, which only deepens the sting of being fired. Trying not to dwell too much on the negative, you shift your gaze upwards, looking at the glimmering moon peeking through the soft, dusty purple rainclouds in the deep pink and blue sky.

Right now, you’re just tired, and you want nothing more than to get out of this rain and head home.

The light at the crosswalk still blinks red at you, almost mockingly.

There aren’t even any cars passing right now.

“Man! Change, you stupid light!” You can't help but vent a little of your frustration out loud.

Your home isn’t even that far away, and you’re tempted to just jaywalk at this point. The cold chill in the rainy air only adds to your urgency to hurry home.

But the light continues to blink, the red glow only increasing your annoyance.

As you continue to wait by the crosswalk, a black-and-white cat strolls by without a care in the world. The cat jaywalks backward, looking at you the whole time.

Your sour mood is forgotten, replaced by bewilderment at the sight.

“Wow, that cat just knows what it wants and goes for it,” you said, honestly impressed.

The rain starts to lighten up as you wait, and your mind starts to wander.

“I wish I were a cat—no, wait.” You stop yourself.

You rest your hand on your chin, pondering. “I guess I wish I had a cat. Or a pet of some kind.”

“It’d be nice to take care of something,” you say quietly.

Suddenly, a strange glittery haze and a bright glow appear above you.

You can’t help but reach out with one hand in curiosity, your other hand still holding the umbrella close to your side.

Huh? Pink light?

You can still feel a few faint raindrops hitting your skin.

Then, you hear an odd sound—like bells or a small squeak.

Next thing you know, something abruptly crashes onto your umbrella and bounces off. The sudden and unexpected weight makes you lose your balance and grip on the umbrella. You slip and fall back, landing in a puddle of rainwater and getting your back completely drenched. Whatever hit your umbrella flops onto the wet asphalt and rolls to the other side of the road.

Your eyes widen, filled with a mix of shock and concern. It looks like some kind of animal.

You grab your umbrella and shut it, tossing it into your pocket.

Without caring if the traffic light has changed or not, you run across the empty street to check on the small creature.

You crouch down beside it for a better look.

It seems to be some kind of dog??? No wait… maybe a cat??? You can't quite tell what it is, partly due to the little nightcap it's wearing and partly because its tail looks quite unique. Even the patterns on its body are unlike anything you've seen before! It has colorful, sparkly markings on one of its arms and legs. Whatever it is, it's very cute.

Thank goodness it doesn't appear to be hurt—it's breathing softly, just unconscious.

First things first—you absolutely need to get out of the rain.

You quickly pat yourself down and decide to use your apron, which somehow managed to stay surprisingly dry. The front of you was lucky enough to survive the rainwater.

You take off your white, cat-themed apron and use it to gently pick up and hold the little creature.

As you look at it, you notice some more interesting features. The markings on its face kinda resemble that of a moon and even the tip of its tail has what appears to be a small lunar crescent.

How adorable~!

─── ・ 。゚. ☽ .。゚ ・ ───

"MOON!!! HURRY UP!!!"

" I’M WORKING ON IT!"

"Well, open the damn portal FASTER!"

"How the—?!? I need a location!"

"It doesn’t matter; ANYWHERE IS BETTER!!!"

"Sun we cant just—!!!"

"UGH, I'LL PICK FOR YOU!"

"SUN, WAIT NO—!"

"Look, a portal! now GO!!!"

"DON'T SHOVE ME!!!"

"JUST JUMP ALREADY!!! THEY'RE GAINING ON US!!!"

"SUN!!! SSSUUUUNNNN!!!"

A blinding pink light is all Sun can see.

Sun shoved Moon first, then jumped through the portal himself without a second thought.

Moon can be mad at him all he wants, but right now, they JUST NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THERE!

The portal closes, and the pink light fades.

Sun lands soundly on the ground, surprisingly without any issue. He half-expected to fall on top of an angry Moon.

Speaking of Moon... where is he???

Oh no...

It doesn't take long for Sun to spot Moon. Right ahead, it appears that Moon must have landed on some human while falling out of the portal...

it's just one thing after another today, isn't it?

It's not like Sun can do much of anything right now. The last thing he wants is to get spotted. Thanks to this stupid curse, if he's seen, he’ll just turn into a small creature unable to do much of anything.

Sun can’t help but roll his eyes and let out an audible, annoyed huff.

Yeah, that was a bad idea...

Before you can turn your head around, Sun quickly dives behind some nearby bushes. Just barely, he manages to avoid being seen.

Sun leans back against the bush, waiting a few moments, and then, keeping as low as he can, he attempts to peek out.

Sun sees you picking Moon up and walking away with him. A sense of dread washes over him. He’s going to have to follow you as best he can without being seen. Great, just great.

Maybe if he’s quick enough, he can hopefully swipe Moon out of your hands and rush off.

So, Sun does just that while you quickly make your way home. Every now and then, there's a rustling in the nearby bushes or trees. You assume it’s just the wind given the weather right now. Sometimes, you swear you hear a sound, perhaps the sound of bells? Or maybe it’s just some neighbors with wind chimes, or maybe a few birds...

Sun tries his best to follow behind without giving himself away.

It’s actually been quite hard. He’s had a few hiccups along the way. For instance, when you stopped at a crosswalk or double-checked the street, Sun attempted to swipe Moon back from you, but a jogger or someone on a bike passed by, and poof! Sun turned into a cute little creature and landed in the bushes. Wriggling in the shrubbery, doing his best to free himself. A few passersby who saw him even stopped to coo at him. One person attempted to help when he got stuck in a low tree. Wouldn't you know it, that person had a dog with them! When Sun was finally freed from the tree and placed on the sidewalk, the dog rushed up to sniff him. Sun quickly scampered off until he was out of sight and could turn back to normal again.

Yeah, this was turning out to be very troublesome for Sun already... and this was only the beginning.

Not long after, you reached your apartment, surprisingly oblivious to all the commotion going on a few feet behind you during your walk home.

You softly opened the door and gently laid the little moon creature on your couch, planning to grab some blankets and towels.

The little moon creature continued to lie still, now sleeping soundly on your couch, like a cute little bread loaf.

Meanwhile, outside, sun was trying to find a way to sneak into your apartment or at least check on Moon. This involved several failed attempts, such as when sun tried to scale the side of your apartment to reach your balcony, only to have someone decide it was the perfect time to check on their outdoor plants. Poof! His short little paws caused him to slip, and he landed in a tree. Again. An annoyed and frustrated pout appeared on his round face. When that didn't work, he tried looking for any windows to sneak through, hoping for a glimpse inside to see Moon.

He was almost successful with this attempt! Looking through one of your apartment windows, he finally spotted Moon. Sun was relieved! Thankfully, Moon appeared to be alright; he was awake, and you were drying him off with a fluffy towel. Moon's little face scrunched up a bit as you playfully squished his cheeks while patting him with the towel. You then tried to take Moon's hat, but he quickly moved away, making it impossible for you to grab it. He began squeaking and making bell sounds quite aggressively at you. Sun couldn't help but snicker at the sight. You apologized and let Moon keep his nightcap. Instead, you grabbed a puffy pillow and placed Moon back onto the couch, the small creature calming down.

Moon cuddled up next to the pillow as you wrapped him in a cozy blanket. You gave his head a little pat and cooed at him for a moment, then moved to put away the towel and apron. Moon, nuzzled into the pillow while also attempting to hide his embarrassed face. Sun felt a twinge of jealousy watching you pamper Moon. While Moon was perfectly fine—being doted on in comfort—he was outside in the rain, battling trees and bushes, not to mention all the times he had fallen today.

Having had enough of this, Sun pressed his face closer against the window and tapped on the glass in quick succession, not too hard, but enough to hopefully get Moon's attention. Luckily, it worked! You were occupied putting things away, but Moon heard the tapping, shuffled under the blanket, and peeked up from the pillow to look at the window and see sun.

The little light blue creature looked up at sun, his eyes widening in surprise. But just as quickly, they narrowed as he regarded him.

─── ・ 。゚. ☽ .。゚ ・ ───

Moon was shocked to see Sun. Honestly, he was glad, but he couldn't help but feel somewhat angry at him. After all, it was Sun who had landed them in this mess in the first place. He just shoved him through the portal, and the next thing Moon knew, there was a person right below them. Poof! Suddenly, their dumb curse was transforming him into a small creature as he fell through the sky.

He landed on an umbrella, bounced off of it, and went flying through the air before flopping onto the cold, wet ground. He was lucky to even be in one piece after that whole ordeal. He ended up losing consciousness for a little while, and now here he was, stuck in this tiny creature-like body. Unfortunately, he couldn't change back, even if he wanted to, since a person was still in the same room with him. He was quite grateful that the human he fell onto happened to be so nice—probably because of his cute appearance in this form, which made him look like some helpless little animal.

Moon's small, pouting expression only deepened as he squinted his soft, round eyes at Sun in annoyance.

Quickly, Moon glanced back at you to ensure you weren't watching. You were currently fiddling with your umbrella, probably checking to see if it was damaged.

Moon then jumped off the couch, letting the blanket fall onto the floor as he rushed over to the window.

Sun and Moon quietly argued by the window.

"Great to see someone’s doing well." Sun says with a tinge of sarcasm, "Now enough messing around—let's get out of here! Just quickly unlock the window latch and—"

Moon interrupts Sun, "Me? Messing around? This is all your fault! If you hadn't shoved me—"

Sun snaps at Moon "I was helping back there! If you took any longer, we would’ve been done for!"

Moon replies, irritated. "Helping? Helping?! You sent me flying! I crashed into an umbrella, landed on the cold, wet ground—hard, mind you! And I was knocked unconscious!"

Sun puts a hand to his chest, offended.

"Well, excuse me! You seemed just fine getting pampered like some kind of little pet prince back there. Meanwhile, I've been struggling this whole time—falling into trees, landing in bushes, and getting covered in all this rainwater. I'm an utter mess!" Sun exclaimed, removing a stray leaf stuck to one of his rays (he still had several leaves and sticks stuck to him).

"Yeah, find another way in. I'm not unlocking the window," Moon said as he turned around and started to leave.

"What? No! Hey! Get back here! MOON!!!" Sun couldn't help but let his whispering shouts turn into a yell by the end. He also slammed both his hands against the window in frustration.

...Ah… probably shouldn't have done that…

─── ・ 。゚. ☽ .。゚ ・ ───

You decided that your umbrella was in good enough condition to keep, when suddenly you heard a loud sound against the window. You could have sworn you even heard a shout???

Just as you whipped your head around, Sun transformed again. POOF! a small, pink, glittery cloud, then once more sun was now a little creature. Moon, on the other hand, stayed by the window, making a series of tiny bell-like sounds as he pressed his two little paws against the glass. You'd think the little guy saw something outside that was upsetting him, but as you rushed over to see what the commotion was about, it looked more like he was giggling in amusement at something.

"Hey, what's up, little guy? You see something out there?" you ask.

In response, Moon tapped his paws against the window.

You pondered the small creature's actions for a moment. His squeaks and bell rings continued as he kept pawing at the window.

"Alright, but only for a moment," you said.

You opened the window and took a quick peek outside—nothing unusual.

Meanwhile, your little companion peered further, looking past the window sill and down at something below. You followed his gaze. It was just the flower bushes you had growing by your window. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary; the bushes were rustling a bit, but there was a slight breeze in the air.

You shrugged off the odd moment and closed the window. Moon moved away from the window and curled back up on the couch, circling in place a few moments before cuddling back into the pillow.

As you pulled the window's curtains shut, a flurry of squeaks, bell chimes, and rustling sounds came from the flower bushes below. Eventually, Sun popped out from the bushes. Just as the curtains fully covered your window and hid him from view, POOF another pink cloud! In an instant, he transformed back, burying his face in his hands and fuming with muffled shouts of frustration.

"MOOOOOONNNN!!! When I get my hands on you!!! I SWEAR!!!"

─── ・ 。゚. ☽ .。゚ ・ ───

Today's definitely been a bit of a rollercoaster already—one thing after another. You let out a tired sigh and rest your hands in your pockets for a moment. As you do, you feel something in one of your pockets. You pull it out and discover it's a small laser pointer. You fondly remember the times you used to play with it while interacting with the cats at your cat café job. You decide to absentmindedly fiddle with it. It still works! You're charmed by its design; it's actually shaped like a rocket blaster. Hmm, maybe you can use it to play with your little lunar-themed friend sometime.

Just when you think nothing else will happen tonight, suddenly your doorbell rings.

Before going to the door, you check on the adorable little creature resting on your couch. He seems quite content, and you smile at the sight.

Opening the door, you're greeted by the friendly face of your neighbor and good pal, Freddy. He's wearing his usual slippers and pajama pants, with a short apron tied around his waist. Normally, you would feel relaxed to see him, but given what has happened today, you can't shake the feeling that he somehow heard about you being fired and that might be why he's here. Vanessa probably said something... oh boy.

“Hey, Freddy…” you say, your nervousness evident in your voice as you continue to fidget with the keychain in your hand.

“Were you just not going to tell me that you got fired?” Freddy asks, concern clear in his tone.

“Oh, I was just… going to never, ever go into that area of the island again.” you reply, trying to dodge the question.

But you realize that’s not a very good answer, is it?

“l-look! It’s not that big a deal, really. I took care of everything—the cats are fine, and the café is fine…” you quickly attempt to clarify, but Freddy still wants to address the issue.

“I just… back at the café, I specifically talked about being fired due to the fire, and you didn’t say anything?” Freddy says.

you're stuggling to look him in the eyes now…

“Errr, well, I…” A sense of shame and growing awkwardness starts to overwhelm you entirely. You nervously begin to fiddle more with the keychain.

In your distraction, you accidentally turn it on and shine the laser in Freddy's eye.

He lets out a pained sound and puts a hand up to his face.

“OMG, Freddy, no! I’m—oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! I’ll uhh….” You’re in full-blown panic, trying but failing to think of any possible ways to help. You just stand there as a frazzled mess.

Thankfully, Freddy calms you down and assures you he’s fine now; the little laser only got him for a few seconds, but there was no harm done.

Still, you can’t help but apologize profusely.

Freddy puts a comforting hand on your shoulder. "It's alright, Y/N. Perhaps we can talk more about it another time, if that's fine with you, of course…It's late, and I'm sure you've had a long day."

“yeah…another time.” You simply nod; it has been a long day for you. Freddy doesn’t even know about the little creature you ran into today either.

“Oh! I almost forgot. Actually, I came over here to offer you some lasagna I made. and— well, when I mentioned I was going to see you, Vanessa ended up telling me about your job…”

(Of course it was Vanessa. She probably knew you weren’t going to say anything, but you were just fired! You didn’t want to worry Freddy. You still needed time to think... Ugh.)

Freddy’s chest compartment opens up, revealing a box lovingly wrapped in a patterned napkin cloth. He hands it to you, a big warm grin on his face.

You happily accept it. “Thank you, Freddy.”

“It’s nothing. Have a good night, superstar!”

“You too, Freddy!” The two of you wave goodbye to each other.

─── ・ 。゚. ☽ .。゚ ・ ───

meanwhile… sun had been standing around the corner of your front porch that entire time, filled with confusion from what just transpired.

He thought to himself, "Wow, what was that with the laser? Just what???" He was glad he managed to hold himself together and keep from bursting out laughing.

Unfortunately, he was running out of ideas. Initially, he had considered trying the front door, but then he spotted a giant orange metal bear walking toward him.

"And what was that guy even wearing? Pajama pants and an apron in the middle of the night? That's even weirder!" Sun slouched against the wall in tired defeat and let out an annoyed sigh.

Fine! Maybe pretending to be a little animal wouldn’t be so bad, at least for a little while. For now, they weren't being chased, and this might even be a good way to lie low for a bit. Sun begrudgingly trudged toward your front door and rang the doorbell, then waited.

You thought Freddy had just left when the doorbell rang again. You opened the door quickly, expecting to see Freddy standing there, but when you looked up, you saw no one. A few flickers of glitter shimmering in the air caught your eye. Strange. Then, looking down, you were surprised to see another cute creature sitting right on your front porch. The little guy was trying to shake off a few leaves and sticks stuck to him. It looked similar to the moon-themed creature currently in your living room, but this one was a soft, light yellow color, had flowering rays around its head, and a tail that looked like a lil sun.

You crouched down and greeted the little guy, extending your hand. You gently help brush off some of the remaining leaves stuck to its rays.

(a/n: sun's rays are incredibly soft T_T)

The creature gives a cheerful sound, then rubbed its head affectionately against your hand—adorable! You wondered if it was related to your lil moon buddy; they looked so similar. Just as you began to ponder that, the answer came to you.

The small moon creature was wide awake and rushing toward the front door, you assumed, to greet the sun-looking one.

Before Moon could react fully, Sun jumped on top of him, and the two began rolling around, zooming into your living room before you could process what was happening.

You closed the door and followed them, keeping an eye on their playful antics. It quickly stopped, and the sun creature was now cuddling the moon creature, giving you a bright smile while hugging its companion. The moon creature, on the other hand, seemed tired (maybe even a bit annoyed) but did nothing to push the sun creature away. They appeared pretty chill—like two cats—and it was extremely cute.

Yeah, you were definitely keeping both of them.

After all, you did wish for a pet, and what do you know? You got not one but two adorable cuties!

You smiled heartily at the two creatures.

You wonder if the little guys would like lasagna.
