Chapter Text
What if V didnt go with Uzi and N? What if she stayed behind and decided to help J after all? Well thats just what about this story covers. DO NOT read this if you do not ship J/V (Oilrose.) Thank you. This is taking place a little bit after episode 8, where J and cyn both “die”.
I was probably an idiot to stay behind and help somebody who has been lying and plotting behind our backs this entire time.
V walked silently through the soft cold snow. Each step she took sent a small shudder through her sensors, as after the fight her sensors were ever so slightly off - her body was just barely heating itself after all. She decided to leave Uzi and N behind, just to come help somebody to means very much to her. Well, sorta. Even though she lied multiple times to her, hurt her and her friends very much so, and even sided with someone who had practically abused her and her memories - she still somehow cares about her.
Her eyes shined in the darkness in front of her, showing a rather crumbled and broken building - the remains of the landing pod. The great memories of her and J eating worker drones here filled her memories suddenly, hitting her like a train. Her chest tightened at just the thought of seeing her mangled body again. But she needs to save her. Maybe even possibly rehabilitate her, because even she believes in second chances.
It was hard for her to even take another step closer to the landing pod, as her body was practically frozen in place. Though, there was no sight of her body or even J at all. Shes silently hoping that maybe J regenerated herself and is hiding, as that would be a better outcome than to find the twisted remains of her. She took a deep, stinging breath and began to walk closer again, her body suddenly beginning to feel very heavy on her.
N and Uzi never did anything wrong. Theyre good people, good friends to have. But just knowing they had something to do in her so called “death” brought rage inside her. Thats why she needs to help J now or never. Eventually, she reaches the entrance to the landing pod. Its obviously in very bad condition, and even still having power is a very big shock to her. Cyn mauled the thing up to the point where its barely recognizable. However, she got in easily - as J didnt even try to fend herself off from perhaps other workers or people who are interested in the damn thing. Classic J, she thought to herself.
V looked around calmly but on edge, switching out one of her hands for a metallic flashlight stemming from her wrist, illuminating the place in an instant. Multiple hollow worker drone bodys which are rotting lay around the cramped space. Its hard to tell whether theyre new or old, even if they are rotting because they rot rather quickly. But this nevertheless gives some hope shes alive. Her anxiety and thoughts suddenly come to a halt as she hears a wild beeping noise, recognizing it almost instantly. A blinking yellow light illuminated the room as she spun around quickly, noticing Js mauled and torn up body. She gasps and runs to J, grasping onto her body rather quickly and tightly. She wasnt in good shape at all. Her clothes were ragged and fluffed with dirt, and her limbs were covered in dried and scratched up oil. While she was in bad shape however, she was relieved to know that her core was still intact inside of her body. V takes a relieving breath and hugs her corpse loosely, still feeling the warmth radiating from her core.
“J, Im so glad youre okay..” She mutters under her breath before letting go of her, standing up over her body.
She has to fix her now.
V is determined to save her friend, the one she cares for the most, J. She doesnt care about really anything anymore but this. She turns around and crouches down near the drawers in front of the landing pod, rummaging through the belongings until she eventually finds a wrench and some spare bolts. She knew these would come in handy eventually. She grabs all the parts needed and turns back to Js body, careful not to damage any of her real important parts. Being this close to J and fixing her up makes her feel something that she never has really felt before.
Was it love? Or just a really deep caring for this person? Probably both, V thought. Her hands trembled slightly as she continued to work on her insides, fixing up each bad part and tightening each loose screw that held together her frame. By the time she was done, hours had passed. Artificial sweat was dripping down her visor, her entire body feeling extremely warm from the hours of constant workload she had to do. But V was proud of what she done. V look down content and slightly happy, letting the wrench fall out of her hand next to her quite easily.
All she had to do now was flip her switch. Easy. She chuckled and went to flip on her switch, but something was stopping her. Something cold. Something sharp. Something that was stinging against her neck.
N stood behind V rather angrily, a giant blade which was emerging from his wrist lied against Vs neck, ready to slice in just one swing. He had her basically in a chokehold. “V, what do you think youre doing?” N asks calmly, but you could tell that his face was furious. V trembled under the pressure, her finger just centimeters away from the on switch for J. “N…. hey..” She replied shakily, not even knowing what to say. What an idiot she really was. Now they both were going to die simply because she wasnt careful enough. Why cant she just get a happy ending? He pushed the blade closer to her neck, his blade beginning to draw some oil from her neck. Her heart practically sunk as she felt hopeless in this situation. “N, I was just.. I was just fixing J up, of course..” God damn it.
“V, you betrayed us.” N angrily spoke, his tone of voice getting far more out of control at this point. His tail lashed wildly behind him, the landing pod making a loud thud each time the chamber of nanite acid thunks the metal flooring. “I was an idiot to actually trust you, wasnt I? What about cyn? Tessa? YOURE betraying us for them?..” His voice trailed off at the end, the blade loosening against your neck ever so slightly. V trembled beneath the blade, her hand slowly reaching out for the on switch. She needed to distract him, and quick. This cant go to waste.
“Well, N, Im not. I actually.. I uh, care about us.” V spoke softly, hoping her plan will work. Her finger was only a couple centimeters away from the switch now, and with one more move she will activate J, and hopefully both of them can get the hell on out of here. “Im doing this for… the squad?” That one stung her. They couldnt really be happy and recover together, not after cyns wrongdoings. N took a deep gasp as V suddenly stuck her stinger into Ns leg and flipped the switch, Js system beginning to boot up. It might take a while though, so in the mean time, V needs to fight N off. Just for a bit. He yelped in pain and ripped the chamber out of his leg, throwing it at her in an attempt to hopefully hit her. But V easily flicked it away, standing up quickly and getting ready to fight N. He winced in pain and released both of his firearms, shooting bullets frantically at them and into the wall. His aim was shit for the most part. She then grabbed both of the guns and kicked him in the guts, throwing him out of the landing pod for just a while. She then frantically hit a giant green button and shut the entrance door to the landing pod, only being able to be opened from the inside. Its a bad design choice, I know.
J finally awoke, her systems groggy and sensors extremely off center and in need of immediate calibration. She turned to look over at V, seeing her standing at the window outside the landing pod in a worried manner, almost as if she is ready to duck if anything happens to be thrown her way. Everything in her body hurts. Its a stinging pain. And she has a huge migraine too.
What the hell happened while she was out? J cant recall any of her memories from the past couple of days. She can remember bits and pieces but not enough to fully understand anything. And damn, is she tired of this shit. She doesnt even know who to be mad at at this point except herself. For getting into this mess in the first place. “V?” J mutters out, primarily confused but also with a slight worry in her tone. V turns around to look at J, her body in a much better condition than it was before. Her visor lights up with joy as she quickly runs towards her, crouching near her to make sure she is okay. “J! Youre okay! Im so glad, I-” V hesitates with her words before stopping herself almost immediately. Her eyes narrow with a slight anger but still fondness for her.
“J, Why did you… pick her over us?” Thats the question she had in her mind all this time. Why. Why J decided to pick tessa and cyn over them, the ones they have been with since basically forever. The ones who helped her during her worse times, her most suicidal, her most painful moments. But yet she still picked the two other people who hardly ever cared about her but instead manipulated her. Not that they can be that mad at her though, after all, she did mention not necessarily having a choice in all of it. Js face contored almost instantly after hearing her ask her that, the pain clear just from a glance.
J looked away silently, the whole pod only being illuminated by the soft glow of the moon and planets outside bathing against their metal frames gently. “I was being manipulated the entire time, and thats the truth and all youre getting from me.” Her tone of voice was dull and gloomy, but you could tell she was full of heartbreak and grief. V didnt even expect her to give an answer, so in all honesty she will take it. But yet she still cares.
WHY DOES SHE STILL CARE?
