Work Text:

Sand and Ray were pulling up to Sand’s apartment after a late-night gig that Sand was featuring with Dean earlier that night. Ray ran into Dean that night and wasn’t as friendly as he promised Sand to come across. Sand wasn’t too bothered as he knew Ray’s antics and could hardly blame him, he wasn’t too keen on Ray being with Mew constantly before there dating, but they both moved on from that petty behaviour. Or so Sand thought.

“take my keys and unlock the door Dea- Ray.” Sand chuckled at his own slip up, as he sat up from the Driver’s seat and gently closed the car door while locking it.

“sorry?” Ray asked in a dead serious tone, more like a demand for an answer for something that wasn’t an actual question.

“take my keys and open the door-“

“no. what did you call me?”

Sand walked up to Ray but he stepped back with a vexed glare.

“Ray?”

“don’t bullshit me Sand. you called me Dean.”

“it was an accident.” Sand spoke in his defence, but he knew Ray wouldn’t let him live this down - at least not anytime soon.

“yeah, mhm. sure.” He muttered as he walked away with the Keys in his hand, not long later he was aggressively twisting the Key in the lock and stormed into his apartment. Sand knew he was in for a long night.

Sand followed behind him shortly after and set his guitar down on the counter. The place was quiet, he knew Nick was not here tonight but considering Ray was here, it was eerily quiet.

a little while later, he found Ray looking through Sand’s endless stack of clothes. He assumed Ray was looking for some other clothes to steal and change into as he was staying the night, or Sand hoped he was. Ray seemed pretty annoyed at the earlier comment.

“what are you doing?” Sand leaned against the door way as he admired his boyfriend rummaging through his clothes, this was a usual routine anytime he slept over, and he found it adorable every time.

“nothing.” Ray stopped looking through his worn-out shirts and charged straight past him, out of the room, before firmly nudging his shoulder against his.

Sand knew he should go apologise and feel bad, but he found this petty jealousy so hilariously adorable, so he dragged it out a little, no harm.

He followed Ray into the living room and noticed him sitting at the far end of the dramatically large sofa, which Ray insisted on buying Sand just because he liked the texture, scrolling on his phone and purposely ignoring Sand.

But Sand knew how to win him back. He makes his way over and sat right beside Ray. As expected, Ray shuffled away, but, Sand only moved closer and wrapped his slender arm around his shoulder.

“are you ignoring me?” Sand asked with a smug grin in his face that he tried to hide, as he knew it would only rile up Ray more.

“…”

“you are so adorable when you’re in a mood.”

Ray stayed quiet, but he couldn’t ignore the feeling of heat rushing to his face at the unnecessary compliment.

“so agitated over a simple mistake, it’s quite sexy if i’m honest..” Sand teased as he leaned in closer, forcing some small, hot breaths against Ray’s smooth, tanned skin.

“fuck off..” Ray managed to push out of his dry throat, before quickly grabbing the arm wrapped around his neck and setting it back beside Sand.

Sand smirked at the unfiltered reaction, knowing he was slowly working his way under his skin.

“you’re acting pretty childish, it was only a silly slip-up.” Sand said, meaning no harm, but Ray took it the wrong way, and it only set him off again. He scoffed before abruptly standing up, about to walk off, but Sand rushes up to his feet with the same pace and grabs out for his arm.

“wait, Ray, i’m sorry.” His faint voice called out.

“are you though? do you really want me standing here right now, or Dean?” His words lashed out at him like a spreading wild-fire.

“of course i want you, Dean is just my friend.  you are my boyfriend.”

Ray squirmed slightly at the nickname, he wasn’t used to hearing things like that, since he’s never really been in a real, lasting relationship.

“but you’ve been spending a lot of time with him and staying out late, not even informing me where you are or who you were with.” Ray glared up at him, more desperate now than anger. He knew he was overreacting, but it still hurt; knowing Sand could be out fucking the next willing man, but honestly, he had every right to. Ray was a dick to him in the past and Sand had numerous opportunities to leave, but he stayed. Right beside Ray.

Ray’s gaze softened at the man towering over him, almost in an apologetic expression but still wanting some clarification. Had Sand been fucking Dean? Was he better than him? Was he going to leave him for that talentless whore? Ray stopped himself in his thoughts, otherwise it would only descend in growing his hatred to Dean. Or maybe it wasn’t hatred, but jealousy? Ray had spent months chasing after Sand only to eventually win him over, but Dean had met him a couple of weeks ago and was already inviting him to stay out late and get drunk with him while they talked about their shared passions. Was that all it took? Maybe Ray just wasn’t good enough.

“sorry..” Ray mumbled into the air between them, hoping the embarrassment growing inside him would just eat him alive.

“it’s okay, i get it. you get jealous at anyone that looks my way.” Sand spoke through his growing smirk.

“it’s not just that. i get it, Dean seems like…a nice guy that could treat you better and make your life a hell of a lot easier.”

“wait, what?” Sand’s expression turned from an innocent tease to pure confusion. Was Ray insinuating Sand would leave him for Dean?

“i mean, i get it if you were messing with him. He seems way more…simple than i am.”

Sand stopped Ray from saying anything else by closing the space between them and cupping his cheeks against his slender palms, his rough calluses, from gripping his guitar, rubbing against Ray’s glowy skin.

“Ray. I love you, not him.”

“…i know. i’m just saying-“

“no.”

Ray tried to battle out another response but as his lips parted, he felt another pair slip right in-between them. His body subconsciously responded for him and deepened the kiss, while his arms wrapped around Sand’s neck and his fingers disappeared into the silky hair right above. He savoured the flavour that tingled against his tongue, it tasted exactly like Sand. nobody else.

As his thought were put to rest, and his jaw became sore, he slowly pulled back and looked at those familiar, wide, doe-like eyes. Sand looked down with the exact same reaction. The corner of his lips quivered up as he gazed into those glossy, half-lidded eyes that glistened with a hint of vulnerability; the one thing Ray feared the most.

“i’m sorry.” Sand repeated back to the other.

“for what?”

“making you think i would leave you for someone i met like last week.”

“no you didn’t, i just..was being an idiot.” Ray stated, which wasn’t technically wrong but he snarled at his own honesty. He wouldn’t never admit he was wrong to someone, but Sand changed him over the past couple of months. Sand saved him.

“well that might be true, but i don’t want you to have to question your trust in me with other people.” Sand assured, gliding his hand up and down Ray’s arm.

Ray lent into the touch, secretly desperate for Sand to keep some sort of physical contact with him. He let them stay like this for a little longer before finally shaking up his vocal cords again.

“i’m not saying i don’t trust you” Ray let out a prolonged sigh before continuing, “there’s just a weird voice in my head telling me the worst will happen.”

Sand held his gaze over him for a little longer, before leaning close to his ear and letting out a strangled whisper,

“then let me drown out that voice.”

Ray shuddered in place. That was way more sexy than necessary. He could already feel that voice fading, and his arousal growing.

“oh, yeah? na?”

God he was falling right where he wanted to be.

Sand raised an eyebrow at him, silently asking the question he already knew the answer to. Ray fell right into him and kissed him again, his hands clinging onto the thin fabric of his shirt; he was already imagining its new home on the bedroom floor would suit it much better. Without much further action, Sand was stumbling back towards the bedroom; his lips never leaving Ray’s, not until the door swung shut behind them and was preparing to keep their uncensored noises trapped inside of that room for the night.
