Work Text:

A peak of light shines through the window, pass the curtains. The warmth hitting the brunettes face, making him shift. He opens one eye, seeing the peak of the light.

Rody shifts onto his back. He raises his hand looking at the gold band around his ring finger.

It’s been almost two years since they’ve gotten married. The day he proposed to his beautiful wife, they went to a fancy restaurant, then walked around a park during the spring time meaning flowers blossoming fully, decorating the park beautifully. Sitting down on a bench he played his guitar singing his own lyrics. It took him a while to get down the lyrics, he was unconfident about writing his songs but Manon was the one to push him to make his own songs. Even whenever he got nervous around Manon trying to show off, she never judged him. Just supported him. After he gave a sappy talk about how long they’ve been together and how they’ve grown, he proposed to her. He remembers the look on Manon’s face, in shock slowly turning to a blushing mess. He felt his face warm too. She said yes before leaping on Rody, giving him a hug. They both had tears in their eyes from happiness. They could hear few claps from bystanders that saw the proposal.

Rody looks back at the memory fondly. That was one of the best days of his life. Any day with Manon is always the best. The wedding went well, it was small but it was perfect. Rody’s parents came congratulating them, both happy to have Manon in the family. Manon invited friends and her parents, Rody was still nervous around her parents as they were sort of stoic but Manon assured that they were just like that.

Pulling back from the memory, he hears a shift beside him. Turning around, he sees his gorgeous wife sleeping. Her lashes lay softly against her cheeks, pieces of her hair covering a part of her face. One hand peaks out from under the shared blanket. The ring finger holding the same matching band.

Rody smiles at the image. She looks so peaceful. He raises his hand, tucking manons hair away from her face. Slowly her eyes flutter softly. She opens one eye, landing on Rody. She smiles, shuffling closer to her lover. “Good morning.” She says, wrapping her arms on Rody. “Good morning Ma chérie.” Rody says, pulling her close to his body. They stay in silence comfortably, both of them not a morning people. If it was up to Rody he wouldn’t mind laying in bed with Manon all day. But she said otherwise, needing to be productive.

She squirms slightly, feeling a slight discomfort. Rody notices right away. Even in tiredness his senses are always alert when it comes to Manon, especially now.

“How are you feeling?” He asks, lowering his hand to his wife’s growing stomach. She lays her hand against Rody’s neck pulling his face close. “I’m okay. Don’t worry.” She gives him a kiss in the corner of his lips.

About 4 months ago Manon found out she was pregnant. She surprised Rody a week later showing him the pregnancy test after he came back from work. Like the emotional man he is, he bursted into tears, hugging Manon tightly.

Ever since Rody has been careful around Manon, asking her if she’s in any pain or if she needs anything. As the days turns into weeks her belly started to grow, it’s not that big but still a noticable bump no one can miss even with heavy clothes on.

“What do you think it’s gonna be?” Manon asks Rody. He stays quiet thinking. He hasn’t really thought of what the baby could be. “Don’t know, just hope that the baby is gonna be healthy and happy with us.” Manon pauses.

“What do you mean by that?” She asks.

“I’m just worried, if I’m gonna be a good dad.” He says quietly. “I’ll love them with all my heart but Im scared of messing something up.”

Manon raises her head. “Of course you’ll be a good dad, why would you not be?” She says curiously.

Rody exhales, “I don’t know, I messed up a lot when I was younger. With college, my parents, with you. I don’t know if I would do the same with our kid.” He frowns at the thought of making his child upset.

“We all make mistakes. You’ve grown to be such a nice gentlemen, you’re kind, you help others, you’re a good person.” Manon smiles at him. “We may make mistakes from time to time but we can always learn and make up for it. Plus you’re not alone, I’m nervous too but as long we both do our parts I think we’ll be happy.” She hold Rody’s hand close to her chest.

Rody smiles at Manon. As long as he’s not alone, he won’t be as afraid.

“Alright I think we’ve been in bed long enough.” Manon announces, sitting up. “I’m craving pickles.” Rody sits up. “I thought you didn’t like them?” “Well now I do so let’s go.” Manon walks out the bedroom.

Rody chuckles. He follows right after her.

As long as she’s here they’ll be fine.
