How it Ends

Summary:

This is how I believe the ending of Deltarune will go.

Work Text:

Chapter 5 will take place in Asgore’s Flower Shop. At the end of the Chapter, something will happen to Asgore (whether he’s captured by The Knight or worse), that will lead us to chasing The Knight to the Bunker like in Chapter 3. Unlike then, however, we’ll use the code from Dess’ guitar to get in, ending the chapter as we finally enter the Bunker.

Chapter 6 will be similar to Chapter 3, mostly taking place in the Bunker’s Dark World. I believe this is the part of the game where Kris’ deception will be revealed, and we will gain control of our vessel. It is also here that we will finally come face to face with W.D. Gaster himself, who reveals that he’s been the one pulling the strings all along. Not out of maliciousness, but out of simple curiosity. When the heroes try to confront him, the main boss of Chapter 6 (most likely Device_Friend) will appear and fight us. After we beat them, we’ll be forced out of the bunker. After we regain our bearings, Gaster will emerge from the Bunker. Susie will likely be confident, stating that they already beat Gaster’s pet and that, once they sealed the Fountain in the Bunker, all this would be over. Gaster would then say something like:

“I would not

Be so confident

If I

Were you.

Look up.”

Susie would be confused until she does, seeing something that fills her with dread. The camera angle would change, revealing a shocking site: Dark Fountains emitting from the horizon. After this, Gaster would say:

“It would seem

That my Knight

Has been rather

Busy

During our time

Together.

Seven fountains

Have now

Been open.

Only one more

Is required

Before the Roaring

Commences.

And to mark

Such a momentous

Occasion…”

Gaster would then pull a knife out of his cloak.

“I shall create

The last fountain

Myself.”

Before you or Susie can stop him, Gaster raises his knife into the air… and plunges it into himself. For a moment, all is silent, before Gaster erupts into the same kind of Fountain the Titan emerged from in Chapter 4. Afterwards, Chapter 6 would end.

Chapter 7 would take place during the Roaring, the Fountains created by the Knight turning into Titans with the Heroes needing to rush from Titan to Titan, defeating them before they cause too much damage. The Titan’s would each be located in the spot Dark Worlds were formed in previous Chapters: The School, the Library, Kris’ house, the Church, the Flower Shop, and the Bunker. The Titan you face at each location will have abilities related to the Darkners found in that Dark World. (For example, the School Titan will have attacks based on the Card Kingdom Darkners.) Along the way, you’ll encounter the Darkners of each of the Dark Worlds, trying to help the Lightners before they turn into stone.

After you beat the last Titan, there will only be one Fountain to seal: Gaster’s. As you approach it, however, you’ll be pulled into that Fountain’s Dark World: Gaster himself. The Dark World will take the form of Gaster’s memories of before he came to the world of Deltarune. You’ll see him building the Core, and the experiment that led to him being shattered across time and space. At the end of it all, you’ll come face to face with the man himself, where the first phase of the final battle will begin. After you beat Gaster for the first time, he’ll commend you on your victory, but remind you he was only using a fraction of the power he now possessed. Suddenly, the Dark World will fall apart, sending you back to the Light World and putting you before the true final boss: A hellish fusion of Gaster and a Titan. You try to fight him, but your attacks do pitiful damage, and his attacks deal massive damage. Just as all seems lost, however, the friends you made, in both the Light and Dark worlds, will come to your aid, giving you the edge you need to beat Gaster and save both worlds.

Afterwards, you, in The Vessel, will awake in the bunker with Gaster. He’ll congratulate you on your victory and thank you for helping him with his experiment. That experiment, you ask? To see if one person’s will could be enough to change fate itself. Unfortunately, he says, now that the experiment is over, both of your times in this world are over. Knowing you aren’t finished yet, however, Gaster will give you the chance to say goodbye to everyone. Once you have, or whenever you’re ready, you can return to Gaster and say you’re ready to go. Afterwards, he’ll lead you to a familiar grey door, with both of you stepping through it. Gaster turns to the screen one last time before closing it. As he does, the credits roll, and Deltarune comes to an end.
