Chapter Text
"Here is your drink, sir," the blonde barista said as she handed the coffee to Kris.
He nodded at her and made his way to the door, leather loafers clacking on the plastic floor.
Taking a sip, he sighed contentedly. It was a nice day today. He didn't have a shoot until next week, so he was taking some time to stay with Amy before she took off for New York tomorrow.
As he reached for the push door, he felt a tap on his shoulder, and he turned to see a young woman glaring harshly at him.
He groaned a little. No part of him was inclined to deal with an angry fan today. He was meant to relax, take a break, and be happy with his girlfriend.
"What's up?" He inquired, doing his best to keep exhaustion out of his voice.
"Break up with your girlfriend," she spat out. "A useless man like you isn't meant to be with her."
His fist balled as he made a feeble attempt at staying calm. How dare anybody try to tell him who he can and can't be with, especially a stranger he'd never met. He took a slow inhale, blue cotton pressing against his chest.
It's not that he was unused to these demands, but it's not often that a person is brave enough to say it to his face. As a popular actor, only made more beloved when Adam Blackwell saved his life; he was aware that some of his fans were more than a little obsessed with him.
He got threats on social media all the time, and he could deal with them, but when they demanded that he leave Amy? That is unreasonable.
He opened his mouth, debating how to respond to her cruel comments. However, before he could make any de-escalation attempts, she was already ranting.
"You stole Amy from Adam!" she cried, losing all composure in the café. "You don't deserve her, and will only hurt her more!"
Now, his open jaw dropped, and his heart picked up speed. What an unexpected turn. He had never run into someone angry about this before. If he weren't so angry, he would've been stifling laughter at the absurdity.
Although he only met Adam once in person, he knew he wasn't looking to take Amy, nor were they ever actually together. They didn't even keep in contact; in fact, Kris was positive they hated each other.
The girl kept going, "Only a man with magic belongs with Amy, not some worthless trash, who only wants her for her powers."
Clenching his fists tightly, he crushed his cup, and hot coffee spilled onto his soft hands. He hissed in pain and the startling temperature, as his mind raced to comprehend what she'd said, but she just kept going.
"Get away from her and let her be with the man she knows she truly belongs to."
With that, she shoved Kris over and pushed her way through the door.
Stumbling backwards, he glanced around the café, only to be met with leering cameras. He smiled weakly, trying to downplay the situation, relieved he hadn't actually said anything to her, knowing he would see this encounter all over TikTok tomorrow.
Coughing awkwardly into his sleeve, he hurried out of the café, not even thinking about the mess of coffee he'd left on the floor for the nice barista to clean. Nervously, he scanned left and right to make sure the rude woman was gone. He really didn't want to see her again.
Finally outside, he took a deep breath, chest pulling tight against his blue button-down.
"In, out. In, out," he repeated to himself softly.
As his heart beat settled, his vice grip on the paper released. He couldn't even grieve the lost coffee. His stomach was too tight to handle drinking anymore.
He just wanted to see Amy.
