The Sting of Love

Summary:

Sakura was under the impression that her and Ino were forever. What a mistake it’d been believing fairy tales were real.

Work Text:

Smash

Yet another object met its destruction at the hands of an enraged Sakura.

The same hands that had been so loving just hours prior with who she thought she had a future with now shook violently at her sides, and Ino was at her mercy as she tried to calm Sakura down.

”I’m truly sorry Sakura –“ Ino tried getting out in-between Sakura’s wails of pain and screams of heartache.

”Sorry for what, Ino-pig? For all of the lies you told me? For making me feel special? What, exactly, are you sorry about?” Sakura’s tone fluctuated as her voice cracked, dipped and raised through her interrogation of Ino.

”Sakura… please, how many times do I have to apologize? I didn’t mean to make it seem like I strung you along, I just… After some thinking, I just don't think we’re all that compatible as we’d like to be.”

Ino’s pleas and attempts to explain herself were met with more waves of fury and sobs from Sakura, and Ino felt exceedingly uncomfortable when she took a few steps her way.

Ino saw a lethal glint of anger flash across Sakura’s glassy eyes, and how her pale cheeks pulled taut to express her dissatisfaction. She didn’t blame her for feeling highly upset, but Ino refused to feel guilty for not being able to offer anything more than a sincere apology. She already felt shitty enough about the whole ordeal despite having only been casually dating Sakura, although it was now quite obvious that while Ino had been testing the waters, Sakura had been developing much stronger feelings, and if it hadn't been for Ino’s other suitor (Sai), she would’ve tried to make things work – truly.

Ino couldn’t help needing the confirmation that she and Sakura were an intimate match to push their relationship further, especially after she and Sai had already had a rather steamy encounter, too. It wouldn’t have been fair to continue seeing Sakura after coming to the conclusion that she had a better connection with Sai, and although Ino could handle Sakura’s bitterness, she just couldn’t handle what was currently happening as the very woman spat venom and hurled objects at her.

”Don’t you have someone else’s life to ruin?! Get out, get the fuck out!” Sakura hollered, the sheer volume of her demand scratching and burning her throat as it roared up and out of her.

”Fine then! Later, billboard-brow, I don’t have to stay here and take this shit!” Ino broke after reaching her snapping point, and after a final altercation at the front door, she left Sakura to console herself and clean up the damage done to her apartment.

Ino did have somewhere to be, after all.
