Work Text:

Shadows crept across the cobblestone road as the sun lowered over the horizon. The path forward was devoid of all life. Except for one person: Ebeneezer Scrooge. Every night, Scrooge could be found walking to the graveyard and returning to his house within an hour. This, however, did not garner much attention from most onlookers. After all, it would not be an exaggeration to describe Mr. Scrooge’s life as quite mundane. Or so the general public thought.

Scrooge checked his pocket watch with a scowl.

"I knew I shouldn’t have wasted time talking to Bob Cratchit. Humbug!"

As he opened the gate the moon had already begun its ascent into the night sky. Scrooge desperately sprinted through the graveyard, looking for the one person he could truly be himself with. The person he had yearned for through all hours of the day, for the last 10 years. At last, Scrooge found what he was looking for. Scrooge passionately stroked the letters engraved into the stone.

“Oh, my dear, sweet Marley. It feels so good to see you again.”

After a terrifying 5 seconds of silence, white vapor began to swirl around the base of the tombstone. Scrooge let out a sharp exhalation, dripping with pure want. Marley would finally be in his arms again.

Slowly, out of the swirling cloud of white, a form emerged. Chains of iron wrapped around its body. Scrooge fell to his knees, keeping his eyes locked on Marley’s own, bright blue ones.

“Oh Scroogie, your passion never fails to summon me.”

“I can do more than just pull you from death, Marley. You only have to ask,” responded Scrooge, smirking at Marley’s pale white face.

“While I would love to, there are eyes everywhere. We wouldn’t want an audience.”

“I thought you would say that. That’s why I brought something special today.”
From the pocket of Scrooge’s dressing gown, he pulled out an object. A knife so sharp, it seemed to cut into the darkness. Marley’s breath caught.

“Scroogie, you don’t have to do this.”

“Nothing will fulfill my appetite for you until I can be in your arms at every waking moment.”

Marley suddenly pulled Scrooge towards him. Scrooge gasped as Marley's cold lips connected with his own. A fiery burst of passion crackled through him like he had never felt before. It coursed through him. Scrooge leaned in further, letting the chains around Marley’s neck press against his chest.

“Oh Marley, please don’t stop.”

“I don’t plan on this ending any time soon.”

Marley’s lips drifted to Scrooge’s ears, then caressed his neck. Scrooge melted under his gentle touch. But they both felt something changing. Marley’s lips were slowly turning into thin vapor, leaving traces of it on Scrooge’s thin frame.

“No Marley, don’t leave me so soon,” begged Scrooge

“Oh, my Humbug King, I can’t help it. You know I would tear myself out of his world to be with you.”

Scrooge disparagingly thought about the 24 hours he would have to spend without his partner in death. He glanced at the knife in his pocket. Then at his beloved ghostly mate in front of him. He gripped the knife.

“If you can’t stay with me, I’ll make myself yours for eternity.”
