Chapter 1: It's a Date

Chapter Text

The shrill sound of an overhead bell signaled the end of the period. Tem began packing up his belongings into his backpack when a large hulking shadow suddenly covered his body. The shock made him flick, causing him to drop his textbook.

“Here, I can get that for you.” The figure handed it to Tem. He looked up from his bag to see Riz, taking the text book from his hand.

“Thanks Riz. Heh, you scared me for a second there…”

“Ah, I’m sorry,” He looked down sheepishly before kneeling to get to eye level with Tem. “I’ll be sure to make my presence more known next time.”

“N-no it’s not a big deal at all! You know I’m not afraid around carnivores, it’s just near impossible to suppress our instincts sometimes, you know?”

“Y-yeah… I get that.” Riz almost mentioned he has trouble with it too, but didn’t want to scare an herbivore, let alone the one he holds nearest to his heart.

Tem stood up from his desk and started to walk out of the classroom, Riz following suit. “So Riz, you got any plans tonight?” He asked with an unusual amount of confidence in his voice.

“Not really. My roommates are out tonight so I’ve got the place to myself.”

“Oh that’s great then! I wanted to ask you if you wanted to come get dinner with me at the cafeteria tonight? U-unless you planned on having something else, in which case it’s okay, no pressure!”

“Actually, I was planning on cooking some spicy tomato stew tonight. But I’m more than happy to go with you tonight.”

“To be honest, your place sounds better, the cafeteria food isn’t too good anyways, heh. B-but I understand if-” Riz cut him off.

“You’re welcome to come over! Just uh, let me tidy up first, okay?”

“Okay! That sounds great. I should head back to my place too, I need to freshen up a bit. I’ll see you around five?”

Riz’s face lit up. “That works for me. See you then, Tem.” He waved him off, and began walking down the hallway.
