drinking/smoking - pre-2020- kissing the homies

Matt could barely even keep his eyes open as he lay in the massive hotel bed that they had managed to secure. It was one of the only nice things about having space between the shows that they were doing. He missed the cheering of the fans, sweat of the stage lights, and ache of his throat like someone would miss their beloved pet. He didn’t miss the cramped quarters of the bunk beds that they had in their tour bus or the lack of privacy that they had when they were surrounded by the rest of their crew in cramped quarters. He had decided a long time ago that he would gladly put up with the missing performing part of distance between shows if it meant that he got to have a night with Alex.

Both of them were far too exhausted to be able to do anything more than cuddle when they got to bed, which was evident in how heavy Matt’s limbs felt currently, but that by itself wasn’t something that they got when they were in the bus. Their friends and staff didn’t mean anything about it, but the mood of cuddling was always absolutely slaughtered when the first comment about it slipped from their mouths. In a hotel room, no one was around to see when they slipped into each other’s arms or laugh at what they said to each other once they had.

The sound of the shower turning off in the bathroom was Matt’s signal that he needed to haul his ass up. He hadn’t bothered to do anything with himself since he had gotten out of his shower, simply allowing his body to finish drying in the cool air conditioning of their room while his hair dripped down onto the table he’d had the foresight to drop down onto the sheets before his epic flop.

He slowly pushed himself up into a standing position with the towel in one of his hands. His golden curls were mostly finished drying at that point, but damp enough that he could make himself look presentable by dragging a brush through them now. He stepped into the cramped bathroom space alongside Alex and dug through their shared toiletries bag for his hairbrush while Alex was brushing his teeth.

They moved with the familiarity of people that had known each other for a decade and been all up in each other’s spaces since they had first met in person. Matt knew when to step into the doorway of the room while Alex finished drying himself off and when he could come back towards the sink and floss. Alex was able to sit down on the toilet while Matt was applying his SPF lotion to keep his tattoos nice, then they both moved into the main part of the hotel room.

Matt didn’t bother with anything other than a pair of boxer briefs and some baggy gray sweatpants for bed, another perk of knowing that there was no one around to harass him about his choices. No one other than Alex, that was.

“Oh Matthew, take me now,” Alex flopped dramatically onto the bed with one hand on his forehead in a mocking swoon.

“They’re gray because that’s a popular style. Not trying to make you ovulate,” Matt laughed. He picked up Alex’s sleepwear, a worn t-shirt and some basketball shorts, and chucked them at the other man.

Alex’s muffled laugh underneath the fabric was enough to make a smile force its way onto his tired features. While the other man pulled his clothes on and finished up his little nighttime routine of plugging in his phone and making sure that their team was okay, Matt pulled himself underneath the comfortable bed coverings.

“The decorative pillows are still on there, man,” Alex griped when he saw the state that Matt had gotten himself into.

“Don’t care, sleeping,” Matt mumbled while his eyes began to tug themselves shut again. Alex gave a couple more grumbled complaints about cleanliness and lice as he pulled the decorative elements of the bed off to sit in the cuck chair in the corner of the room.

As soon as he had contented himself with the state of the room, he climbed underneath the covers as well. Matt lifted his arm up instinctively so that the other could lean against his chest and their warmth could swirl underneath the cool cotton sheets. “Shit, this is so fucking comfy,” Alex mumbled against Matt’s bare chest. He gave a wide yawn before he tilted his head upwards. “Night, man.”

“Night,” Matt replied just as soft and sleepy. He pressed their lips together in a gentle, sweet peck of a kiss before dreams dragged him under. That was probably the best part of the hotel room over the tour bus.
