"Okay, how does this one look?" Lux lowered their mirror and looked toward Dorian, eyes half-lidded. They only had an hour before their livestream was scheduled to start and here they were, unprepared with their makeup and struggling. It was only their first attempt - chunky eyeliner falling in an elegant swoop, enclosing the bright yellow eyeshadow Lux dotted with a bit of glitter - Lux didn't need a second opinion on it. It was a bit plain for what they where hoping for but, maybe, Dorian would surprise them.
The doorman hummed from his side of the couch, glancing up from his book. He thought for a moment, taking in all the little details, then looked back down. "Looks fine, love."
"Fine? Just fine?"
Dorian stared at Lux from the corner of his eye, eyebrow slightly raised.
"Boo," Lux pouted their lips before grabbing a makeup wipe. "I need more than just fine!"
Dorian caught Lux's wrist, quickly softening to holding their palm and pulling the knuckles to his lips. "Not around the eyes, love."
"Ugh, you cannot be bullying me over this right now," Lux didn't have time to worry about all of this. They only had so long to find the perfect look! They can make up their beauty routine later, off camera, where no one has to see their irritated eyes. They didn't even buy the harsh wipes with the stupid fragrances and harsh chemicals - which were bad for the environment anyways! - but it seemed Dorian didn't consider those details.
"Not bullying," Dorian promised, taking away the wipe and setting it aside. He'll figure out what to do with it later but, for right now, the doorman stood and went to their closest bathroom. He found the washcloths under the sink, found the softest one he could, and soaked it. Barely a minute gone by before Dorian came back, kneeling in front of Lux like a knight greeting a king. "Eyes closed now, love."
"Whatever..." But Lux did as told, ignoring how much their cheeks flushed. They jumped a bit when Dorian lifted their chin, testing the cloth against their right eye. It was nothing but gentle, swiping away the eyeliner and the eyeshadow with care. Phosphorus alight, they've been together for a total year now, Lux should not be getting so flustered by such care. Usually it made them feel like a princess, servants at their every beck and call, but, of course, they had to be all in their feelings right now. Just before a stream too? Ugh, they'll never be able to concentrate!
Dorian hummed, pressing his lips against Lux's eyelid. It was barely grazing, too afraid to hurt to commit, but it was comforting all the same. Lux had no idea how this silly doorman could calm them down so effortlessly. Made them sick, bleh.
"All done, love," Dorian pulled back, chuckling when Lux leaned forward to follow.
Lux caught themself and quickly threw themself backwards against the couch. "Yeah, whatever, boo, thanks... but now I gotta start all over!"
"What's this stream about anyways?" Dorian asked.
"Well, if you listened-" Lux was half-sure they told Dorian beforehand. "It's a dating advice stream. Like one of those cute magazine columns where people send in their problems then experts, but they're so not experts, answer. I made a confession board for it and everything."
"Dating advice, aye?... is that why you invited me over?"
"Well, duh, you're my boyfriend, aren't you?"
"Am I?"
Lux paused. "Well... yeah, duh, I wouldn't have invited you over! Dummy."
"Mhm," Dorian nodded, going back to his spot on the couch. "Alright then, I'll believe you."
"Jeez, I know I can be on-off, but you don't gotta stay if you can't handle it!" What a dangerous game Lux was playing.
"I don't play games, love," Dorian picked up his book again, finding his page again. "But my heart is open to you all the same."
Lux huffed, ignoring their rapidly beating heart. "Whatever..."
There was a shared beat of silence as Lux reorganized their makeup, Dorian flipping between pages, and the lights hummed with a bittersweet acknowledgement. Phosphorus alight, Lux wanted nothing more to yell at Dorian that, yeah, no shit they're still dating, but also kiss his handsome face until it gets through that Lux doesn't want to leave... not that Lux would blame Dorian, as easy as it would be. They're the hottest shit around, not an asshole.
"Could let me do your makeup," Dorian said after a while.
"What?" It totally caught Lux off guard.
Dorian tilted his head toward Lux. "Like those old boyfriend-does-my-makeup challenges. Bit more old school than your new age brand, but you could spin it as vintage or something."
"Assuming boyfriends can't do makeup because they're boys is so cancellable, boo."
"Not what it'd be about but... I can do makeup."
"You can?!"
"Been mates with Skylar and Phoenicia longer than I've known you, love, you pick up a thing or two," Dorian smiled behind his book, a tease in his tone; "Bet I could do a better job than you are now."
"Firstly, how dare you! Secondly-" Lux darted across the couch, throwing their arms around Dorian as they kissed every inch of his face. Glossy prints were left everywhere as the doorman leaned into each one. "You're, like, a total genius, babe."
"It's among my many skills," Dorian manage one or two quick pecks in return, setting aside his book to pull Lux onto his lap proper. "If I may be so forward, love?"
"No secrets here."
Dorian hummed, squeezing Lux's waist gently but firmly. "I like you here."
"Well you better," Lux lazily rested their arms over Dorian's shoulders. "It's my throne now."
"Really? I don't think thrones are suppose to be able to move."
"Or talk back but here we are, dummy," Lux kissed Dorian's cheek. "You'd probably stay if I asked you to, freaky ass."
"Your wish is my command."
"Ooooooooh, any way I can convince you grow out a beard?"
"Not a chance in hell, love."
