Work Text:
Martyn lay on his side in the grass, giggling when Ren booped his nose.
The rain fell around them, soaking through Martyn’s hair and clothes, but he didn’t mind.
The rain was nice.
I helped him.
Yes, like a plant, laugh all you want.
But he did need the rain.
Ren, on the other hand, was turning pale, and Martyn sighed in regret.
They… probably needed to go inside.
“Ren, love, we need to go inside. You’re gonna freeze to death.”
Ren shook his head, pulling Martyyn to his chest.
“Ren…”
Martyn dragged his name out, pushing lightly on his chest.
Ren whined softly, but stood up letting Martyn take his hand and lead him back to the house.
It was one room, with a large, squishy bed in the corner, a small kitchen, and so many hanging plants.
Martyn left Ren to grab clothes, and when he came back, Ren had shaken himself out over the floor.
“And this is why I left you by the door. C’mon.”
Ren followed him dutifully, and Martyn slowly helped him out of his soaked clothes.
“Feel a little better?”
Ren nodded, then frowned when his hair fell in front of his face.
“Would you like some help with that?”
Ren nodded.
“Okay. I’m going to get changed, then I’ll help you.”
When he came back, Ren was sitting on the bed, playing with the brush bristles.
“Okay, here.”

Ren was a happy person right now.
He had Martyn.
And raaaaaaain.
Martyn was kind to him.
He didn’t hurt him.
Ren always hurts.
But not now.
Now he was with Martyn, and all he did was plant flowers.
Sometimes Ren loses himself though.
He wakes up in weird places.
But Martyn always finds him.
And takes care of him, and pets his ears, and is kind.
Ren hummed softly to himself.
He likes flowers.
He likes Martyn.
His little flower.
So pretty.
Martyn giggled from behind him, and Ren focused on now.
Now, there was a brush in his hair, and Martyn’s fingers.
Mmmm.
Ren swayed where he was sitting, and Martyn yelped in surprise.
“Woah- okay, here, c’mon.”
Ren let Martyn settle him into the blankets, then waited for him.
Where did he go?
Ah, there.
Martyn was humming to himself as he closed the blinds, then seemed to notice Ren’s eyes following him.
“I’m coming love, hold on.”
Ren snuggled back into the blankets.
Okay.
He could wait.
- - -
Martyn remembered when Ren had arrived.
He’d been planting tomatoes, and had heard a resounding crash from the general direction of the clearing.
He’d run over, thinking a tree had fallen, but had instead found Ren, not that he knew who it was at the time.
Ren had been bloodstained, cuts littering his face and any other exposed skin.
There was a large axe on the ground next to him, and a crown lay to the side, stained the same red as its seeming owner.
Martyn had had two very conflicting thoughts.
One: he should get someone else to deal with this.
He was a plant god, for voids sake, he wasn’t made or trained for this.
Two: this person clearly needed help.
They were pale, large wolf ears pinned to the back of their head, and the blood…
Even if they were a god, this wasn’t healthy.
The second thought had won over.
Martyn had gently nudged their shoulder, and large, blue eyes had met his.
“Hello?”
No response.
“I… I’m gonna help you, okay?”
Still no response, but some of the tension fell out of their shoulders.
Martyn basically carried them back to the house, then started on cleaning them up.
There were… a lot of cuts.
And scars.
This person seemed to be one big scar, practically.
Once they were clean, Martyn realized he had another problem.
He didn’t… have any clothes that would fit them.
They were huge.
Like, Etho sized.
Martyn thought about it.
How could he…
Oh!
Martyn whipped out his communicator, and sent a quick message.
Suddenly, there was a thunk at his doorstep.
Jeez, Tim was fast.
He went out, grabbed the box, then hopped back inside.
After he helped get them dressed in a t-shirt and sleep shorts, he sat them down on the bed.
They looked at him with those big blue eyes, and he got the feeling they weren’t fully conscious anymore.
“Hey… are we still here?”
He reached out a hand to cup their face, and they leaned into his hand, eyes falling closed.
Martyn smiled.
Well.
Even if this was weird, he didn’t really mind.
They were sweet, and not an immediate threat.
Martyn helped them back into the blankets, and watched as they fell asleep.
: : :
That same image was what greeted Martyn now.
Ren, curled up in the bed, almost hidden under the blankets.
Big eyes watching him.
Martyn smiled, crawling into the bed next to Ren.
Ren wasted no time, curling around Martyn like another blanket.
Martyn giggled softly, but he really didn’t mind.
It was nice to have a friend.

Ren was tired.
And Martyn was back.
He was small and snuggly.
The rain was still falling.
And Martyn wasn’t in it anymore.
He needed rain.
Like his plants.
But only sometimes.
And he wasn’t in it now.
That’s why they’d been outside earlier.
Hm…
That was okay.
Rain made Martyn’s plants grow.
And that made Martyn strong and happy.
Yes.
Rain made his little flower happy.
Mm.
His flower was asleep, soft breaths puffing against Ren’s neck.
He was comfy.
Nothing like the before.
No.
We don’t think about the before.
Not when he was this comfy.
He wanted to rest.
Ren closed his eyes.
He was very sleepy.
He would rest now.
