Notes:

Hi!! This is my first fic ever published on here, please be nice! I definitely appreciate constructive criticism!
With the new trailer releasing for the Backrooms movie, I felt really inspired for some reason and had been itching to write Lol

This takes place between season 4 and 5!

Far warning, I don’t know much about the Backrooms but I have had a look it into the different canons and kinda made my own up from them.

I’m excited to see where this takes me and what I will write!
I hope you guys enjoy

Chapter 1: Level 0

Chapter Text

Head now splitting in a fiery pain, Mike rested against the yellow carpeted floor for reprieve. The fluorescent lights above didn’t help any. Taking in the sight of his surroundings, Mike finally realised where he was. Well, where he wasn’t. He wasn’t home, not at Dustin’s or Lucas’s house- not… anywhere he had seen before. Instead, replacing what he knew well, this place seemed to be an office of some sort- very sickly and loud. Just the things Mike needed right now.
Groaning as he stood up, his head spun, causing him to latch onto the wall next to him. Coughing, the air tasted funny, dirty even. At the very least, it wasn’t clean and Mike wondered how many years would be taken off his life for it. He waited a moment or two, for his whirling head to stop.

Another glance at where he had come from, where he fell. And just kept falling. The roof above had no hole, or any indication at all that someone had fallen through. Fine then, Mike had dealt with this kinda thing before. Nothing like a little mystery before he got back home for breakfast.
As Mike caught his breath from the fall, he squinted his eyes at the area around. A very strange design for an office building. And it was very yellow. The wall he stood against, had peeling criss-cross wallpaper and a neutral look to it. Maybe one that hid secrets. Mike knew about secrets.

Maybe this place had something to do with the Upside Down, obviously, that was the answer, right? Something Vecna created with his own tortured mind and sent Mike here. From what Mike could gather, he was the only one here. The only sounds were the loud buzzing of the seemingly, never-ending fluorescent lights.
Shivering, Mike took a couple steps forward, to peer around the wall he was standing against. Pillars this time held up the roof, but there were many of them, mostly unnecessary. They too, were an off-white that hurt if you stared too long. Mikes own eyes unable to focus in front of him. The lights definitely played a role in that.

Exhaling deeply, Mike went on walking, the horror of the place only growing. The rooms kept repeating, unending. Each one would have the same lights, carpet and wallpaper, only walls would show up in the middle of a room, or there would be a row of square lights each one flickering.
Every room was connected to another, and so far, there were no dead ends, or sight of anything else that would help Mike get out of here. As time went on, Mike hugged himself as he was walking, the chill in this place getting to him. He only last remembered being in his kitchen grabbing some water before everyone else would wake up, the autumn morning birds singing as he did his best to avoid-
In any case, he wasn’t wearing any form of warm clothing, his pyjama pants and a t-shirt were all that were on him.

It seemed to Mike; he had no other choice but to keep walking.
