Work Text:

Kyoko’s whole body slumped onto the bed. Makoto’s hand which was purple from Kyoko’s grip was now relaxed.

“Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Naegi, you have a girl!”

The nurse wiped the child off. The baby was put on an exhausted Kyoko’s chest. As Kyoko studied her daughter, tears began to flow down her cheeks. She felt just about every emotion in this moment, but one of pride and exitement was the most prevalent.

They both studied the child; Green eyes, a head lavender hair which had an ahoge (already?). She was extremely small. Kyoko recalled holding Byakuya’s newborn, Aoi’s newborn twins…They were all massive compared to her daughter currently.

The baby wrapped her fingers around Kyoko’s, as she investigated her. The baby’s left hand, gripping Kyoko’s felt rough against her skin. Infact, most of her left side felt rough. At least, her right side was baby soft, as it should be.

From the baby’s left side of her neck, to her thigh, there was a purple birthmark. Kyoko’s eyes widened as she noticed this, sort of feeling guilty. However, this was HER daughter. The child she never thought she’d even get.

It took so much hope to get here. Kyoko still admired the small baby, seeming to be safe in her mother’s arms. She seemed to lean into Kyoko’s soft arms and chest, but she was investigating her scarred hands.

On the left side of the bed, Makoto observed the baby as well. He smiled as the child opened her eyes, looking around curiously. Every moment of pain, suffering, tears, hopelessness…all lead to this: their child of hope.
~~~
Kyoko had been in labor for 14 hours. To make things even better, her child was one month pre-mature. Somehow, the baby was perfectly healthy…exept for the birthmark.
After the cord was cut, they would need to do all the boring paper work. Kyoko was exhausted, her hair was a mess, she was in pain all over. Somehow, she didn’t tear, and her face was stained with tears from before.
Makoto was in much better shape than his wife. His hand was almost crushed, but other than that? He was maybe a little tired. Kyoko’s water broke 7AM, and it was now 9PM. This wasn’t bad for him one bit.
Kyoko layed on the hospital bed, feeling as if she was melting into it. Her child was being examined, which forced her to stay awake despite the fact that her eyelids did just the opposite.
Makoto’s eyes noticed Kyoko’s exhausted body. He had never seen her this tired since she first woke up from the coma. He knew that the last thing she wanted was to be interogated; so Makoto handled every conversation for Kyoko, letting her get a small amount of rest.
“Before you go to sleep, Mrs. Naegi, what would you like to name your child?” The nurse asked.
“Keiko...” Kyoko replied as she was half awake, “Keiko Hope Naegi as her full name..”
“You got it!” The nurse bolted back to the room where Keiko was.
Makoto’s phone exploded. He was alerting almost everyone: Aoi, Hiro, Byakuya, His parents, his sister, and Toko. Kyoko drifted off to sleep immediately after the nurse left the room, now that everything was done.
“Keiko’s 5 1/2 pounds and 16 inches tall…! I know, she’s tiny! Also, she has a really big birthmark, which looks kinda like Kyoko after the final killing game! Oh, and she looks just like Kyoko as well!” Makoto rambled on the phone with Hiro and Byakuya, as Kyoko ever-so peacefully slept.
Even if the exhaustion took over every emotion, Kyoko was overjoyed with her child. She never knew her mother, and the experience of now being a mother was so exciting for her. Especially with a daughter who was arguably just like her? Absolutely precious.
