7 Minutes in Heaven

Summary:

7 minutes in heaven — stuck in a cramped closet with nothing but the fact that the tension between you two has been there way longer than seven minutes.

Work Text:

7 Minutes in Heaven

You know it's a bad idea to join this hangout, take note—with alcohol involved. You can’t blame them, sure. It’s probably the alcohol in the making since some of them are pretty tipsy, hence it’s no wonder that they are all sitting in a circle, spinning a bottle they have finished drinking and are now playing this stupid game called 7 minutes in heaven.

You boo-ed when someone first proposed to play this game, saying stuff such as “how boring.” After all, this was supposedly to be a chill hangout at someone’s place after practice, not some middle school party game.

“Not playing.” You said flatly, waving your hand dismissively.

Aomine, sitting beside you, leaned back against the couch you guys are sitting, his arms folded behind his head, casually saying, “Y’all are weird.”

“Shut up. The both of you are the ones that are boring.” Someone shot back jokingly, pointing accusingly between you and Aomine.

“And besides, you’re playing too.” They added, nudging the bottle toward him with their foot.

Aomine grunts and shakes his head before scouting closer so he can rest his head on your shoulder.

“Boring couple.” Someone joked before letting the both of you. Knowing if the other isn’t joining, obviously the other as well. You guys are two peas in a pond anyway. Predictable, they say.

You watch as the bottle spins.

Round one. Round two. Lots of laughing and awkward returns from the closet.

Okay, maybe it was a little entertaining.

“Watching you guys play is boring. Fine, count me in.” You eventually succumbed, tempted to try.

“OH?? Look who changed their mind!”

Aomine, who you thought was half-asleep on your shoulder, sat up lazily.

“Guess I’m joining too.” Aomine added lazily, pushing himself up from the couch like it was the most casual decision ever.

“Look who decided to partake. It’s His Majesty the King and Queen.” You laughed at this snarky comment before standing up. Walking as the others made a space for you and Aomine to stay.

You assume that Aomine would sit beside you as usual. Instead, he walked past you—and dropped down directly across from you.

You blinked before laughing, realizing what he was doing.

“Guys.” You said, grabbing the empty bottle from the center. “Let me take the honor to spin this.”

You gave the bottle a confident spin. “I’m pretty sure I won’t be cho—”

The bottle slowed.

Slower.

Even slower.

Until it stopped.

Right between you—and Aomine.

The room exploded.

“OOOOOHHHH.”

“NO FREAKING WAY.”

“FIRST TRY AND ITS THEM?”

“Stop yelling.” Aomine muttered, dragging a hand down his face like the noise physically hurt him.

You groaned, rubbing your forehead. “Seriously? First spin and this happens? I was just barely hyping my luck!” You sighed helplessly, glaring at the bottle like it betrayed you.

“Talk about coincidence,” Aomine drawled, leaning back on his palms like he wasn’t the center of everyone’s screaming.

Before you could protest, several hands shoved the both of you toward the closet.

“Get in, get in.”

“Don’t make out for pete’s sake!”

“Set the timer guys!”

“This is hella fun. Hey, my bet is…”

“The best round!”

Click. Then darkness swallowed the tiny space.

For a second, neither of you said anything.

“This game is stupid,” Aomine sighed, rubbing the back of his neck in the dark.

“Your friends are stupid.” You muttered, shifting your weight against the wall as the cramped closet forced your shoulder to bump his.

“Our friends.” Aomine corrected quietly, nudging your foot with his.

“Eh, same thing,” you muttered under your breath.

A faint laugh escaped him that made you feel giddy. It’s like butterflies are flapping their wings in your stomach excitedly.

Sure, the closet was small, way smaller than you expected. You could barely move without brushing against him.

“You good?” Aomine asked, his voice quieter now, his knee brushing yours in the dark.

You nod, moving to find a comfortable position as your arm brushes his, with neither of you moving away to retreat.

Outside, you could hear muffled laughter and someone yelling about placing bets and you have to resist the urge to bang the closet to shout at them.

“They’re enjoying this way too much,” you paused and scoffed, “Seven minutes is long.”

“Not really.” He tilted his head back against the wall.

“You’re suspiciously calm.” You accused, squinting at the vague outline of his face in the dim light under the door.

His calmness in this situation is bothering you a little, in a good way, of course.

You feel Aomine shrugged with the way your bodies are closer, even though you can barely see him. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“I don’t know.” You replied, shrugging. “Most couples would be awkward in this situation.”

“And we’re not most couples.” He replied easily, nudging your shoe with his like he was proving the point.

“That’s so comforting.” You deadpanned, rolling your eyes.

Then Aomine shifted slightly closer to you, closer than you expected. “Just relax.”

“I am relaxed.” You defended, glaring at him.

“Doesn’t sound like it,” Aomine grins, liking the fact that he’s getting a reaction from you.

“Are we supposed to do something?” You asked to change the topic, crossing your arms even though there was barely space to move.

“That’s the whole point of the game,” Aomine said, sounding far too amused.

You snort before sarcastically replying to him, “That’s a terrible point.”

“You’re the one who joined.” He reminded you, nudging your elbow lightly.

Just when you’re about to open your mouth to argue, he steps even closer to you so that you can feel the warmth of his chest, your bodies parched closer than ever.

Your heart skipped. Sure, physical intimacy between the both of you are frequent, but not in this, well, cramped space with little light to see clearly.

“Daiki.” You called quietly, turning your head toward him.

He hummed in response.

“You’re crowding me.”

“Am I?” Aomine said, tilting his head slightly, his voice laced with a grin you could almost hear in the dark.

“Don’t start,” you warned him.

“Start what?” He asked innocently, though the grin in his voice gave him away.

You rolled your eyes, “You know exactly what.”

Aomine step closer and now, you could barely see the outline of his face in the dim light leaking under the door.

“You nervous now?” He asked teasingly, leaning just enough that his breath brushed your cheek.

“I’m not.”

He let out a low chuckle. “Liar.”

“You’re enjoying this.”

You could practically hear the smirk in his voice. “I told you to relax. I’m not gonna do anything you don’t want.”

Your shoulders loosened slightly, you don’t know, maybe to the fact that he won’t do something? Well… it’s not like you’re expecting something anyway.

“But,” he stopped, his navy blue orbs glanced up to stare at you, “If you were hoping I would, that’s a different conversation.”

“Daiki.” You warned again, narrowing your eyes even though he probably couldn’t see it.

“What?” he replied lazily.

“You’re insufferable.” You muttered, bumping your shoulder into his in retaliation.

“You like me,” he said simply, like it was the most obvious fact in the room.

You huffed. “I never said that.”

“Didn’t need to.”

You scoffed again, though it sounded weaker this time. “Keep dreaming.”

“What a beautiful dream it is then.” He laughed, and the corners of your mouth rose as well. This familiar banter between the both of you will always make your heart swell.

A comfortable silence settled again, with your head resting on his chest this time, his arms embracing you and resting on your waist.

Suddenly, outside, someone knocked loudly on the door and shouted:

“DON’T FALL IN LOVE IN THERE!”

Aomine clicked his tongue. “Go to hell.”

More laughter echoed down the hallway.

You shook your head. “They’re going to interrogate us when we leave.”

“Probably.” Aomine said with a small shrug.

“…Great.” You muttered, dragging a hand over your face.

“Then maybe we should give them something to talk about.” Aomine teasingly suggested, his eyes slanted and the corners of his lips are way too high.

Your brain short-circuited.

“…What?” you asked, lifting your head to see him before blinking at him in confusion.

He snorted before laughing, gently flicking your forehead. “I’m kidding.”

“Idiot.” You muttered, nudging his arm.

“Hey.” He called. You looked up and hummed in response.

“I like this though.” Aomine added after a moment, shifting his shoulder lightly against yours as he leaned down to rest his forehead in yours.

You open your mouth to say something, anything, but words feel stuck in your throat and you wonder if you’re dreaming or something.

“Being stuck in here with you.”

Your chest warmed slightly, your cheeks reddening instantly and you heard him chuckle, like this amused him more than ever. “…You’re cheesy.”

“Don’t get used to it.” Aomine replied quickly, his ears turning red lightly, and he couldn’t be more thankful to the darkness that you can’t see, otherwise you’ll tease him to death.

“Hey, Dai—” You called, suddenly having the courage to tease him when all of a sudden, the fingers holding your waist went to your neck, softly caressing a spot before he leaned in without letting you finish.

He pressed his lips to yours, watching as you closed your eyes and gripped his shirt, responding to the kiss clumsily.

The kiss deepened, with his tongue seeking entrance after a gentle nib and sucked on your lower lip and to hell if you could stifle the soft sound that left your mouth.

When he pulled back, he looked way too pleased with himself.

“…There.” He said, his thumb wiping the wet side of your lips before pressing your lips together again, quick and warm, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

“Now it wasn’t a waste of seven minutes.”

Right then, before you can process what happened—a loud beep echoed repeatedly.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

The timer outside went off.

Cheers erupted as the door flew open, bright light flooded the closet and a bunch of eyes stared at you both expectantly.

“WELL?”

“WHAT HAPPENED?”

“DID YOU KISS??”

“MAKEOUT????”

Aomine stretched lazily beside you, reluctantly removing his embrace of you. “…Nothing happened.”

“BORING!” Someone groaned dramatically

“Seven minutes wasted!”

You pushed past the crowd, trying to hide your warm face by flapping your hands towards your face as if it will help you.

Behind you, Aomine followed casually with his hands in his pockets.

But as you walked back into the living room—he caught your wrist before leaning down slightly, murmuring near your ear.

“Next time we won’t need a closet.”

You froze, and by the time you turned around, he was already flopping back onto the couch like nothing happened, tapping the seat next to him.

Smug grin and all.

Perhaps, this game wasn’t so bad after all.
