Chapter Text
The strongest knight.
The bravest soldier.
They had one goal to achieve in their life, in their forever duty to their creator : to get rid of anyone that came from beyond the void. Created to kill, created to not feel, but made sentient to think.
So why that flaw, made them hesitate when time has come to get rid of them? The pathetic look of terror on their face should've satisfied them. But instead they dropped their blade when their hand gave out.
...
Mercy.
They weren't taught that word by it, but it was so close to what they felt. They didn't know the meaning, but their mind curled to believe it. If so, if they felt mercy, spared and hesitated, it contrasted their duty from fulfilling. Questions begged their mind, yet they couldn't answer.
Why feelings must be so complicated?
"Knight." The familiar voice returned. It has returned, their god. The titans voice was filled with disappointment as it loomed over them, the emotion was written so well on their physical appearance they could see it through.
"I was told you failed." A statement. The truth, perhaps. The knight kept silent, sat against the edge of their ground, and unmoving to kneel to face their failure. It was new, a rebellion towards it. Obedience conquered by emotions.
It did not like it. And did not want to see such change in their puppets. The titan straighten higher as it gaze tore through their armor. "Kneel," It commanded. It voice left no choice but to obey the order. Voice laced with anger they didnt hear before. But their body, did not move. Paralyzed by realisation. "Now."
...
The silence was long, but alas, the knight has found a way in their inner turmoil. They finally moved, their body barely stood before it knelt. The titan wasnt satisfied, it still wanted more. To know more. "State your reason, Knight. What made you so hesitant with me?" The words were a lie, a mask of its anger. Its patience wore thin, and it still had to keep going.
"M a r c y ." Voidbreaker finally spoke, croaked whisper of its vocal cords. "Mercy," The titan repeated, tint of disgust took form in its voice. The word was so..filthy to repeat, a thought that appeared in its puppets mind? Humanity finally rising from suppressing obedience?
Disgusting, it was the only word.
"You do not do mercy. Ever," Void finally began again, its voice was..suppressed, more gentle, a lie to feed a broken mind. "They havent done anything for you. They did not remember you, loved you, nurtured and forgave you like i did to you." "And you decide to give them 'Mercy'? To go against me, my order?" "N o - "
"Silence." Titan did not hesitate, it shut the excuse out of the knights mouth. the anger was more prominent, it seeped deeper subconsciously into their speech. It lowered down, still towering, but more threatening. "I do not want to hear it. I made you. Made the armor, made the sword, made the helmet. And you oppose me with your speech?"
They did not speak this time, only stared to a face that never existed on their figure. Their head shook, a foolish way to satisfy it. But it did work, obedience. It saw it once again, made it forget to push deeper into their soul. To push away the feeling further from the gate.
"I wont give a second chance, Knight." Hope grasped on their mind. The knights head rose, more firm, as if its strings were tugged again. Being spared for its own foolishness of action. Their hand finally reached out, into a distance between them to feel contact... "Do not disappoint me again, Knight. Let them flee, let them choke, let them struggle. But if you show mercy... Mercy, wont be accounted to you."
. . .
The titan left, but its presence never left, its eyes, its sight, was still kept on the knight. Their mind swirled. They were spared, forgiven to continue their duty and use their sword again.
It felt wrong. It showed kindness they usually didnt get, love they have not received. But how come? Have they done better then the old? Have they satisfied their god enough to make it reconsider? Or, mistakes have never been that deadly?
Maybe its okay, all this time, they just had not to do the same. They were given a second life, to return their soul in their body. If they could battle the seeping rot, to fight it in their own core...
They could satisfy their god more.
