Chapter Text
“I hate you.”
Cosmo said between muffled giggles, face covered in icing. He swallowed the burnt cupcake, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
“Eww, Sprouttt! It’s burnt!!”
Sprout cocked his head to the side, a small, amused smile involuntarily making its way on his face.
“Yeah, Cos, could you not see that? The whole bottom was entirely black, love.”
He said, not managing to hide the small chuckle that escaped his lips. Cosmo rolled his eyes playfully.
He scooped some pink frosting on his finger, smearing it on Sprout’s cheek.
Sprout gasped, rubbing the stain off his cheek, going to rub it off on his apron, but pausing, nervously replying.
“Uuh… can you get me a towel, Cos..?”
Cosmo was kinda confused at the reaction, since Sprout wiped things off on his apron all the time. He handed Sprout a towel.
As Sprout wiped his hands off on the towel, Cosmo zoned out. He gave Sprout the apron he was wearing. Maybe that was why. Maybe he didn’t wanna dirty the gift Cosmo gave him. Maybe Cosmo meant something more to Sprout.
It kinda made Cosmo’s heart flutter at that thought.
But they were just friends. BEST friends! Yup. Bestest of friends.
Cosmo only noticed Sprout calling his name when he was tapped on the shoulder for the seventh time.
“…cos..! cos! Cos! Cosmo!!”
Cosmo’s head snapped to where Sprout was violently tapping on his shoulder, replying immediately.
“Y-yeah, sorry, yeah! Just.. zoned out.”
He played off with a nervous giggle.
Sprout wanted to press more. Cosmo had been more.. secretive? Well, Cosmo could always have his own secrets, Sprout wasn’t like that! But, something about how Cosmo was acting recently sorta concerned him.
“Well, uuhm… Let’s just-.. Let’s just clean up, and sleep, huh?”
Sprout said enthusiastically, masking his concerns surprisingly well.
Cosmo nodded.
As they cleaned up the messy kitchen, they didn’t talk all that much, but it wasn’t uncomfortable silence.
Cosmo was wiping down the counters, cleaning the flour and whatnot, while Sprout was in charge of putting all the ingredients and dishes away.
After they finally finished cleaning in about thirty minutes, they headed to Sprout’s room.
Cosmo went in the familiar room first, plopping on the bed like it was basically his. It basically was.
He slid off his white hoodie, throwing it somewhere on the floor, Sprout did the same, slipping off his shirt, just in his shorts.
He climbed in his (or their) bed, chuckling at Cosmo’s face. It was all scrunched up and tired, probably since he was on the brink of falling dead asleep.
“You look like an idiot, man.”
Cosmo grumbled softly, pulling the blanket over them both, shutting his eyes.
In, like, two minutes, Cosmo fell asleep, drool already dripping from the side of his mouth.
Sprout barely even noticed the soft smile on his own face as he admired Cosmo’s face, reluctantly closing his own eyes just to have Cosmo’s lovely face appear in his head again.
He mumbled something to himself, wrapping an arm around Cosmo, falling asleep just as quickly.
“Man, I love you..”
