The Pull of the Moon on the Tides

Summary:

The moon pulls on the tides, so is it any wonder that the son of the sea would be drawn to her?

Work Text:

Percy Jackson sat on the beach outside Montauk. This was his favorite place to go and relax, where he felt most at home, and also where he felt the most connected to his powers. As the tide lapped at his bare feet, he looked up at the moon and realized it looked larger than normal tonight--it was getting bigger. No, not bigger--it was getting closer. As this train of thought continued in his head, the moon chariot landed a dozen yards down the beach from him and the most beautiful woman he had ever seen stepped out.

"Perseus Jackson, why have you been sitting out here and staring at me for every night for the last two weeks?" Artemis asked.

The question broke Percy out of his musings, but was struggling to find a response.

"I like sitting here, it's home to me. And, I guess my eyes are drawn to the moon, just as the tide is when you are above us." Percy answered the goddess.

"Your answer is reasonable. And for what it is worth, you are the only male in this world I have ever come to like. It truly is a shame you are not a girl, or else I would have you join my hunters."

"A shame, truly. but I do like being a male, regardless of the fact that most males are horrible. Even if I were a girl, the sea does not like being restrained, milady. The only entity which has any significant influence on it is the moon, which brings the tide." Percy responded while looking into her gorgeous silver eyes.

As they were speaking, Artemis had been walking towards Percy along the beach, but immediately froze 6 feet away from him. It took him a few moments to realize that she had stopped in her tracks when the water had touched her foot. Percy broke out into a grin. "Scared of the water milady? It wont hurt you I promise."

Artemis stared at the man for several seconds before replying, "I have not touched the sea in millennia, as both a daughter of Zeus, and a fellow Olympian, I have not dared to go near your father's domain."

A look of confusion crossed Percy's face at this. "So are you saying you've never just stood or sat on the beach and felt the water between your toes? You have never swam in the ocean?"

"That's correct, Perseus. I have not dared touch any body of saltwater, and only ever freshwater after getting permission from river nymphs first. And never have I just sat or swam in it."

"Well, there's no time like the present," Percy said as he nervously offered his hand for Artemis to take.

"Are you suggesting that I enter another god's domain without his permission?" Artemis asked.

Percy relied, "This beach is like my home, if dad has a problem with you wading in the water here, which he won't, he can take it up with me. It was my proposal anyways."

Artemis pushed the gray streak of hair out of her face. "I would rather hear Poseidon himself say that before I walked into his ocean Perseus."

"Sure thing," said Percy, pulling a drachma from his pocket. Artemis eyes went wide as she realized what he was about to do for this small thing. "Poseidon, in Atlantis" Percy said tossing the coin towards the water, which Artemis now realized he was controlling into a fine mist to send the Iris Message.

"Percy, my son. What is the occasion that you decided to call me at this ungodly hour?" Poseidon said as he answered the IM.

"Nothing much dad, I just wanted to ask if you were cool with Artemis enjoying the water here in Montauk with me."

"Of course son, the tides and shores are yours, after all, you are a prince of Atlantis."

"Thanks dad!" Percy said before ending the Iris message.

Artemis was stunned. The god of the seas had just given the man in front of her the tides just because he asked for them. Wait, he had said when she first arrived that he was drawn to looking up at her just as the tides are pulled towards her. Did this demigod have his own domain without even being immortal? As she came back to reality she realized Percy, who was grinning from ear to ear, had grabbed her by the wrist and was leading her into the water. As soon her feet were both in the water, a silver and sea green aura enveloped the two of them.
