Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

A large meadow filled with wildflowers sways with the gentle wind. There amidst the soft grass, lays a young man, basking in the moon's light. He takes a deep breath in. The scent of flowers fills his senses; the stars reflect in his tired steel blue eyes. The silence is interrupted by the fall of faint footsteps approaching him. His brunet servant settled down next to him.

"Keeping the moon company, sir?" He teased.

"She is by far the best company I've had tonight."

His servant gasped dramatically clutching at his shirt. "Better than I?"

The young man grinned, "No, not better than you Ryder."

Ryder lets out a breath of relief. "Whew, thank goodness."

Both shared a laugh, the sound echoing through the meadow. They fell into comfortable silence and listened to the small chirping of crickets, watching the dance of fireflies. The lights from the manor sitting on a hill behind them go out one by one. The party celebrating Caisus Eichmann's 23rd birthday was dying down. A normal, respectable man would have been there, mingling with others, playing nice. But Caisus was far too old to keep playing pretend. He showed up when he needed to and left politely immediately after. He's had enough of his parents nagging and unrealistic expectations of him.

One day, Caisus will move far away, free from his parents, from responsibilities, from stupid rules. He'll marry whoever he wants, do whatever he wants. And of course, take his most loyal friend with him. One day, he will have a new life where the only one that he needs to please is himself.

One day.
