Work Text:
Henry sometimes feels lonely and lost in this world.
Often, when he can't sleep, he sits there and watches the night sky. When he was a little boy, someone told him once that good people who passed away went to heaven and became stars.
Ever since Skalitz burned down, Henry relies on this small comfort. Then again, which star was his Ma and which star was his Pa? He keeps looking. This star over there, the big one? The smaller one next to it? They seem fitting for his parents. But then again, what if these stars belong to someone's parents already? Or someone's wife? Someone's child? Henry asks himself if more stars appeared on the sky the day Skalitz burned. If only he could have looked up more when the world was alright.
Henry doesn't realise that small tears well up in his eyes until they spill. He stubbornly wipes them off, sniffling. He just wants to know where his parents are in the vast night sky but he can't even do that. The guilt Henry feels ever since multiplies. „I let everyone down..." His voice is small, so very small and his watery blue eyes stare up, wide, as always. A mix of deep sadness, cluelessness and wonder. Lots of people say that he always looks a little lost.
And he is. Until something catches his attention. One tiny meteor. Another one. Another. Long, fiery streaks across the black sky, cutting through clouds and other stars. Henry blinks.
And the sky explodes in a meteor shower, lots of falling stars that glitter in Henry's watery eyes. He can't look away. He never had seen anything like this before. The young man stretches out his hand, as if to catch the tiny falling stars. And he smiles. Maybe his parents aren't the stars themselves but maybe they are invisible. And sending him many tiny falling stars instead, as if to say „We are here. You are loved. Don't give up. It's alright."
So many stars, just for him.
