"You're easy prey, you know?" Douman intertwines his fingers with Suzaku's, a very tender gesture.
Suzaku seems slightly offended, but lets Douman tighten his grip. Douman's eyes linger on the back of Suzaku's neck, as if he's considering buying him a new choker.
That way, everyone will see that this omega already has an owner. Douman leans forward and places his lips on Suzaku's hand, smiling mischievously. "You're too carefree," he says.
Suzaku laughs softly, and Douman remarks, "I hope it's because it's me." But then he thinks no, that's impossible.
But if it is possible, it awakens a sense of territoriality in Douman. Suzaku is too adorable, and that's unfair. Does Suzaku want to make Douman lose his temper?
If that's what Suzaku wants, Douman will bond with him. And if so, he'd do it right now, right here. He'd bite Suzaku's neck to show the world that this omega belonged to him.
He had a ring in his pocket. Douman was surprised when it fell out. He'd also been expecting a laugh or a hug from Suzaku so he could put the ring on himself.
"So that's why Acchan's touching my hands," he said.
The maid smiled at him and held up the ring for him to return. Douman rolled his eyes. When he tried to put the ring on Suzaku's finger, Suzaku pulled his hand away with a look Douman couldn't decipher.
"Of course," Douman said. "That's why, you idiot!"
He ignored the maids' pitying looks. He realized that maybe Suzaku wasn't ready to get married, or even to be engaged. But that didn't change the fact that love did exist between them.
Suzaku was a free spirit, always smiling, a little mischievous and playful, but he never belonged to anyone.
Douman didn't pressure him. They were young, and Douman saw his future with Suzaku. Perhaps they were together because together they could change the course of their lives.
Nothing more needed to be said.
Suzaku gently touched his cheeks as he chuckled. “I’m sorry, Acchan,” he said.
Douman returned his gaze with a sweet look, and Suzaku felt a silent gratitude. As an omega, it was obvious that this opportunity, the one all omegas longed for, was for an alpha to take the relationship seriously.
The kiss happened the same way it always did. Suzaku lunged at the alpha and kissed his cheeks. The alpha responded instantly, pressing his palm against Suzaku’s soft face.
Douman took hold of Suzaku by the waist. Suzaku wrapped his legs around him and slowly backed away, carefully climbing into the room. “I love you,” Suzaku said softly. His words were like sweet poetry flowing from his lips, an angelic melody that was music to the alpha’s ears.
Douman pressed his face to Suzaku ’s neck, inhaling the delicious scent of autumn flowers. Douman didn't know the name of those reddish flowers, but he didn't care. All he wanted was to be intoxicated by their scent.
"You really don't mind if I don't want to get married?" Suzaku asked.
Silence fell over the person who asked the question. Douman held his gaze and shook his head.
"I don't mind. We can choose not to get married, only when you're ready," he replied.
"And if I'm never ready?" asked the one he was embracing.
"Well, you'll never be ready, but I'll still be with you," Douman said.
He pretended to be angry as he stroked his boyfriend's long, black hair.
"Or do you want to break up with me?" he asked, his voice even hoarser at the thought.
"Because I'll never let you leave me!"
He even considered locking him away for himself. Suzaku was his. Douman could let him do whatever he wanted, except be unfaithful.
"Suzaku, I hope, I hope, I hope you'll accept this silly idea," he stopped Suzaku. "It's not a marriage proposal, just that we make sure we never separate."
"Wow, I didn't think Acchan thought like that," Suzaku scoffed, accepting the unspoken idea. He could also use imagining a future with Acchan.
"Come live with me," he said.
Suzaku whistled. What a bold proposal. He felt a mischievous smile spread across his face. "Of course."
Douman sank down onto the mattress, nearly falling off the bed from the extra weight as he shifted happily.
"This is so much better than getting married, Acchan, you're the best," he said.
They were the same, Douman thought, but well, his beloved's mind worked differently.
Perhaps what they had didn't need titles or a piece of paper to certify the love they felt. What they felt was real, just for them.
