Work Text:

Eddie sat in fifth period bored out of his mind, per usual. It was his math class. Not to say he wasn’t good at math, seeing as he had a ninety-seven in that class. The problem was that he’s a little too good at math. The class moved too slowly for him. By the time the teacher had finished explaining problem number one, he was already done with the whole work sheet! He didn’t like reading, and his drawing skills were...less than stellar, to say the least. This, combined with the fact that his teacher had a god complex and basically had eyes on the back of her head, left Eddie with nothing to do other than sit and think about whatever his mind could come up with.

As he zoned out, his eyes kept drifting over to his best friend, Richie Tozier. Before he knew it, his mind had wandered farther than he had intended. No matter how many other things he tried to think about, he just couldn’t stop thinking about Richie. The only thing in his brain was Richie. Richie, and how stupidly good he looked with the sun shining through the window behind him. His dumb, cute face, his horrible yet endearing ‘color blind toddler’ esc fashion sense, how he tapped his pencil in perfect rhythm, the way his hair fell over his face just a little bit, the way he obviously wasn’t working on anything, the stupid, adorable little smile that tugged at his lips whenever he managed to spell out a swear word on the calculator-

“Eddie!” His teacher called out. “Since you seem to be daydreaming without a care in the world, you must have finished your work! How about you answer number four for us?” She exclaimed in that sarcastic, fake-sweet voice that every teacher uses when a student isn't paying attention. “X equals 7.8 repeating.” Eddie remarked, without missing a beat. The look on the teacher’s face was shocked- and that’s an understatement. “Well...yes. That’s correct.” And she moved on.

After another five-or-so minutes of mind-numbing boredom, Eddie gathered up the courage to walk up to the teacher’s desk, ask to go to the bathroom, and motion for Richie to follow him. He waited by the sinks for maybe thirty seconds before Richie appeared next to him, panting slightly from walking fast.

“What’s up, Eddie-Spaghetti? Why’d you need me in here?” Richie asked, his face a mixture of confusion and relief to be out of the classroom. “I mean...” Eddie started, still trying to figure out the exact reason he asked Richie to follow him in the first place. “Dunno. We never really get to hang out, and I wanted out of class. Thought it’d be nice to talk for a minute. And I've been pretty stressed all day. I figured you and your odd humor could help a bit.” He continued. Richie looked at him with an understanding smile. He got on one knee and kissed Eddie’s hand, doing the ‘knight in shining armor’ act he always did when someone chose him for something. “Of course, my dear, sweet Edward! How can i be of assistance?”

Eddie could feel his face getting red as Richie kissed his hand, turning away to hide his obvious blushing. Even after his very poor attempt to hide his face, Richie still saw him, and of course he had to make a comment about it. “Aww, is all the affection getting to you, Eds? Can’t handle a little peck on the hand without getting all flustered?” Eddie hid his face in his hands “Shut up!” He exclaimed. A lopsided smile tugged at the corners of Richie’s mouth. That could only mean one thing. He was forming a thought. OH DEAR GOD- “Make me!” Richie declared. Eddie didn’t know if he’d heard that correctly or not. Did Richie just tell Eddie to shut him up? In the school bathroom? Where anyone could walk in and see them? Why did he say that out loud? Did he mean it? And more importantly, why did Eddie like it?! The guy that he’s liked for months, who also happens to be his best friend, just said the universal code for “kiss me”.

Eddie’s hands flew up to grip Richie’s shirt, keeping him from going anywhere. “Don’t say that unless you mean it, Asshole.” He muttered, still averting his gaze, unable to look Richie in the eye. Richie looked down at the boy in front of him with a face that meant nothing but trouble, good trouble, but trouble none the less. “Who said I didn’t mean it, Spaghetti? I mean, unless you’re too scared.” Eddie might have been scared, but was he really going to let a little fear hold him back from doing the thing he’s wanted for months? Hell no. His grip on Richie’s shirt tightened a little.

“I’m not scared.” He told Richie. The two got closer, their chests almost touching and their noses maybe an inch apart. “Oh yeah?” Richie remarked. “Well, if that was true, I wouldn't be-” He was cut off by Eddie finally closing the gap between them as he crashed his lips against Richie’s. The rest of the world seemed to fade away to nothing but the two of them in the shitty school bathroom. Eddie was leaned up against the wall with Richie in front of him.  Both boys poured every ounce of pent-up feeling for each other into that kiss. It was messy and uncoordinated. Their breath mingled together; their hands were all over each other; and neither of them really knew what they were doing. But, God, it was ten different kinds of perfect.

When they broke apart for air, Eddie leaned his forehead against Richie’s. Everything was narrowed down to just them. Eddie thought his heart was going to beat right out of his chest, at this rate. His eyes fluttered closed, and he let out a small sigh of content. “Y’know, I’m really glad I told you to follow me.” Eddie told the other boy, his voice barely a whisper. Richie looked at him and smiled warmly. He opened his mouth to say something, but then the bell rang.

Their eyes widened. Neither of them knew how long they’d been in the bathroom. The teacher was most definitely going to have questions. Richie couldn’t help but snicker at the panicked expression on Eddie’s face, which then caused Eddie to laugh with him. After the fit of uncontrollable giggles had subsided, the two boys rushed out of the bathroom together, ready to come up with excuses for the teacher.
